What the fuck? I had the same exact thought!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Mega Thread - Version MARCH OF THE FLYING SNORKS
Concerning the fierce competition between L.U.R.K and Complete 2009.
Complete 2009:
Good - In terms of Freeplay, 2009 has it down much better. As soon as you start the game, you have the choice to skip straight to freeplay mode with all quest completed, or you can choose which chapter you want to go to and all quests up to that will be completed with proper gear and whatnot.
Bad - Performance may be on the rough side if you have low memory. To run it on high, you need about a whopping 3GB of RAM and 640MB on your video card. While they tried the best they could to make a good looking game, they messed up in a few parts. Some foliage is too green and some weapon skins look absolutely horrible (solid green SA-80 and LR-300).
L.U.R.K
Good - Much better in terms of weapon variations, balance, and positioning. All the the view models of weapons have been re-oriented to fit on the screen better (a CoD 4 style). The core graphics like lighting are better than 2009's. Random, but balanced load-outs for all NPC's is refreshing, I was getting tired of seeing mods just put them in the trader screen and that was it. Incorporation of the Clear Sky grass sprites and tree textures makes the game much better looking. In contrast with 2009, L.U.R.K.'s atmosphere is much more dead.
Bad - As said above, the Freeplay choices are not there, and for major S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans who have played it tooth-and-nail, it gets annoying, just let us get to Freeplay or where want to get to please. The mod still lacks a good texture overhaul, some of 2009's textures easily out-do the ones here.
IMO, L.U.R.K. has almost everything it needs in 1.1, with the exception of the Freeplay/Chapter skip feature, if it had ZRP w/ Freeplay skip, I would be all over it.

February of 2010 for us Americans and some other countries.
alright. Thanks.
I saw the CoP advertisement in PC gamer.
I'm so stoked, but I wonder.... will the U.S. release have anything different?
Why wasn't the Russian and U.S. versions released at the same time?

Because they have to translate EVERYTHING.
Because they have to translate EVERYTHING.
And yet people have translated everything with mods within only a month of the Russian release?
but it's a mangled, google translator-like translation isn't it?

google translater=/= good translation with correct grammar.
So how many Stalker mega threads have there been?
google translater=/= good translation with correct grammar.
Not really. Voice are still Russian, but almost all text is perfectly translated.

First they need to redo the voices, they need to hire people who can do a good Russian accent, and hire a multilingual Russian to create transcripts for the voice cast to read over (if they don't already speak Russian that is). That alone will take almost a month. The text part ain't that easy either, they require actual Russians who are very fluent in English to redo the text files. This has to be done for other languages such as German aswell. The entire process takes much longer than a couple of weeks. Let's not forget lip movements ingame need to be resynchronized for all the NPC's.
It takes 1 week just to dub 1 20-minute episode of anime.

There's no lipsyncing at all in STALKER games.

that link won't help me much, I don't have CoP, because I don't believe that I need it before everyone else.

You don't "need" the game at all. Nobody does.

And I'm still going to buy it in February.

Thanks for explaining it out for me, and there are no lip syncing as another guy said.

There is, else it would look like a badly dubbed foreign film. Now which method they use is debatable but there are a few known ways of dubbing over and keeping sync.
1. Changing words in the script and removing dialogue to keep with the flow of the mouth.
2. Rehearsing the scene multiple times and training the voice actor to keep their words in sync with the onscreen character by slowing down words or making awkward pauses. Probably the quickest and sloppiest method used. (Possibly the method used in STALKER)
3. CGI (For animated films) or reprogramming the lip movement for characters. It's easier to do in some engines rather than others. For example, the Source engine has software strictly created for this purpose.
Even tho there is no actual lip syncing, it still more time added to translation. And I do believe STALKER's cut scenes do have a fair bit of sync to them.

But everything else in all three games that's actually engine-rendered is just jaws moving up and down.

Like when you talk to the Docter at Strelok's hideout. He's going "BLAH BLAH" and the speakers behind him are speaking for him.
Sid isn't in CoP right?
No, he isn't. But Stalkers mention his workshop.

Man I've been subscribed to this guy for months, and I swear he has the most interesting stalker videos.
What the hell was that :psyduck:
What did I just watch.
