Here is some screenshots for you to enjoy provided by the focus group team that is currently doing testing for Awakening. http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/74542-focus-group-community-update-week-4-a.html Edit: these images are mostly showing off the new guard system that will be implemented, the testers took some screenshots fighting the guards :) I've updated announcements for awakening!

Fun Fact: Mortal Online is the only Pay 2 Play MMO I have ever purchased. edit: wait holy shit did I just see a morningstar in that image? Oh dear lord. DO WANT
morning stars are already in the game, they just suck. Henrik said they were rebalancing the weapons tho
Battles are decided by whoever brings the largest amount of high quality food and are able to macro their consumables/spells well enough to exhaust their opponents. Not to disregard the actual combat which turn into an hour of holding sprint while you circle your opponents trying to score dodgy hits. Not my cup of tea. [editline]29th April 2012[/editline] Welp, the video is a perfect glance at what this game has to offer:

Food does not matter that much in fights at all and does not determine who wins the fight. Macro spells what? This isn't WoW, there is a hotkey bar, you set the spells which you want to use. Combat does require a lot of movement, but there is more than just trying to score "dodgy hits", also I have never really heard of fights lasting an hour unless they are massive. What bothers me is that you are stating these things like a fact like if you've played the game, which you obviously haven't. Feel free to ask things I can answer any questions, you can PM me if you like even. Note that I didn't go in the details of everything you mentioned, food, potions, etc. So it is important to ask or try the game before concluding with something that is not true.
Alchemy in MO sounds fun.
A part of me is telling me to try this game again, but the open beta left a scar in me. It was terrible.
A part of me is telling me to try this game again, but the open beta left a scar in me. It was terrible.
I'd just like to say that anyone who played in the beta or hasn't played tried the game in any recent time, GIVE IT ANOTHER GO! The game has changed a lot, major patches since beta and release, including Epic patch and Dawn expansion, Some of you probably don't even know they implemented speedtree and the game can look stunning at best settings. De-sync has been gone since release, they've improved the speed in node crossing, Also the server used to crash A LOT, they have fixed that too! Rarely does the server crash anymore. Thievery has been nerfed to the point it isn't annoying and a grief tool. There is countless more things that have changed since beta, I know the download is bit big but I really recommend trying the trial and check it out for yourself, please use the /help function ingame if you are new, or join on IRC and ask all you want. Any questions feel free to PM me. EDIT: Here is the IRC chat you can hop on and ask questions if you like! http://www.mortalonline.com/ircpage
Some of it is similar to oblivion, isn't it?
Followed the shit out of this before release. Are player made houses/towns in? I remember there being talk about being able to build houses more or less everywhere.
The game is alright, Only lame thing is you pretty much have to make a crafting/money maker character first to afford all the books. Also acquiring equipment is a pain in the ass.
Some of it is similar to oblivion, isn't it?
Yes it is a bit like oblivion, especially once they release awakening there will be dungeons and lockpicking etc. Atm it is more PvP based though there is some PvE. (Risars, Spiderqueen etc). Game is open world sandbox multiplayer game, unlike Oblivion. There is many things from oblivion you won't find in Mortal, and the other way around. Crafting in Mortal is complex every weapons and armor are player made and there is literally millions of combinations, Alchemy is also very complex and would take a life time to figure out every single combination :)
Followed the shit out of this before release. Are player made houses/towns in? Player towns work atm in a way, I played in a guild we had a pallisade with a keep in it, houses and storage keeper. Storage keeper works just like the storage keeper in Towns and Houses can be upgraded to have crafting tables, stables for horses and pets, and furnace etc. There is certain NPCs you can buy for your keep to be able to buy catapults and hailcasters for example. Anyway, I don't really want to go into too much detail of things, I hope this answers your question!

Don't you have stuff like sliders to decide what amount (and what type of) of materials it's made of and you can choose the aesthetics of various part of it? This game pretty much ticks all the boxes for me, only thing I'm afraid of is that it has very high aims which would be hard to achieve even for a much, much larger developer, and therefore that it will be buggy and unstable (which it was in beta). Gonna try the trial tomorrow. Yeah that answers it thanks.
The game is alright, Only lame thing is you pretty much have to make a crafting/money maker character first to afford all the books. Also acquiring equipment is a pain in the ass.
Ah your post slipped right before I posted mine, I really want to make a note on the acquiring equipment problem- In awakening they will add broker system (town based) that will bring in more trade between players, it is still town based though, so steel for example will probably be cheaper in Morin Khur(much easier to make here) while in Meduli it will be a lot more expensive, this will bring a lot of trade into the game and make things very interesting! Acds : yes on the crafting note, you can decide for example how much density of "steel' you want on the certain blade your crafting, which can affect weight, damage, speed etc. There is also the handle, and core you have to pick on weapons. I'm not much of a crafter so I only know the very basics, but I know its fairly complex and players are everyday discovering and testing new things on weapons, armor, bows etc. You might think why players are all using similar weapons- sometimes it can be very costly to figure new things out when it involves more expensive materials, many recipes are kept secret, so a lot of players go with the known recipes that will work! Alchemy atm is a lot more complex and many things haven't been discovered and most is kept secret. I'm personally just a slaghauler, I mine and refine ores etc :) it has its own science but it is not complicated Edit: Also forgot to mention- Mortal Online has been a very ambitious project and has had its ups and down, but it has a very strong base of supporters, the game at the moment is pretty active considering Star Vault hasn't put money into advertising YET. The game does tend to have bugs but the dev. team works really hard to clean them up, for awakening they have a good active group of testers working on finding bugs, and Dev team dedicating time on fixing them all before release.
In case anyone missed it, awakening is bringing birds that shit on your head. GOTY
Quote from Henrik, the CEO of SV:
Oh I forgot about to tell you about a small but really nice thing, when you hurt a creature it drips blood on the terrain, so you can follow the blood "trail" from it, we hope to put this on the players as well. So you will leave a trail after you if you are really hurt. Neat little thing.
With the new AI...
still not out and apparantly its taking at least 2 more weeks. If this isnt the most polished expansion ever im going to be raging allover the place.
So I'm trying this out, and it's really fun. It's basically Oblivion but an MMO. The animations and graphics are a little wonky (sunbeams from underground in spots because they are apparently the vanilla Unreal sunbeams, jerky animations sometimes), the grind is so far virtually non-existant (raised all of my stats like 20 points without even trying), and crafting is literally the coolest thing ever. You have to find out your own recipes and write them down. That's hella cool. The only problem I have so far is that aiming bows is stupidly hard because they don't actually fire at the crosshair. I haven't tried out magic yet but that is apparently a thing. [editline]13th June 2012[/editline] A bit of advice if anyone else tries this out: rabbits are worth the most if you butcher them, but they are hard as fuck to chase, so you might as well chase after them and tame them, then murder them once they are your pet. Also you level taming doing this which can get you cooler pets. [editline]13th June 2012[/editline] Ok, wow. Some chick in a robe asked me to follow her, then teleported me to a dungeon. Handed me a bunch of potions and an armor set with a two-hand sword, then had me fight my way through it and kill a deer for a 'sacrifice'. Then another player who was glowing in a cool-ass way hands me 5 gold and sends me back to where I was. Whoever decided to hang around the newbie area doing this is literally the coolest.
game went free to play everyone should try it
