Planetside 2 Thread v2 - Beta floodgates open GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY

Had some awesome trench warfare against Vanu on Thyone as TR. We were 60+ people fighting along a long ditch against a massive Vanu tank force rolling down the hills infront of us. We held the trench for a good 30 minutes before the Vanu gunships moved in and bombarded us to hell. The most intense and crazy awesome battle i have been in so far. It was at night too.
Fffff the amount of reavers in the sky makes me want to save up for the skyguard.
I've seen a couple already.
uggghh I wish my fps wasn't so bad in the big fights, but it's fine everywhere else. I'm forced to go solocapping because I simply CAN'T participate in the actual fights in any way. I'm still having fun, but being solo gets lonely. I really want to know what that patch did to mess things up so horribly.
i'm kind of disappointed because the first time i ever played PS2, I was dropped right in to the crown in possibly one of the biggest fucking firefights ever. The TR, NC and VS were all blasting each other. The sky was full of liberators and fighters and the ground was covered with tanks as far as the eye can see. TRACERS EVERYWHERE and it was night time and the entire screen shaked like you were in an action movie. shit was so intense. you couldn't even walk three feet without having to stop to gun somebody down. it was a certification fest and you'd die left and right and not even care because the second you spawned back in you were like GET THE FUCK OVER TO TI ALLOYS NOW and would run across the road, blitz between enemy tanks and gun down guys in cold blood at point-blank range as they're trying to save their dying buddies on the ground.
and then every other time you play it's so boring in comparison because you're settled in and realize how the game really works and it's not as great as the first time when you pop your cherry :(
So is there a lot of assholes who play this game or did I just run into a few? I just started playing and was trying out the Conglomerates fighter jet thing. Anyways I was doing surprisingly well and some friendly in another one flew over to me and tked me since I guess he was getting pissed at me or w/e. So I go into another and he does the same shit again. Just bad luck or is this shit normal?
Did anyone manage to unlock the infantry Anti-Air missile launcher? I'm at like 9.5k now and they cost 12.5k. Is it even worth it? I mostly play Heavy Assault. The only time I switch is to repair my vehicle or to kill the 500 infiltrators sitting at the top of the hill at The Crown.
Also why does it seem like the machinegun the NC HA uses does so little damage? I'm using a grip, suppressor, and IRNV (I'm basically forced to use IRNV because of the shadows bug which makes EVERY shadow extremely dark as if it was midnight), but it just always seems to take me longer to kill others even though I'm landing all of my shots and had the jump on them.
Also who plays on Themisto?

apparently it's mostly just an air thing. you have to be careful because if you get in a galaxy it's almost a 50/50 chance someone will team kamikaze

That was a problem in PS1 as well; you'd have a fucking amazing four hour long fight, then jack shit would happen for a week.
You're wrong about tribes ascend (there is a jetpack on one class, though), but the parallels to Battlefield 3 aren't unfounded.
Though I don't blame you for making the aesthetic connection between tribes and planetside.
the art style is pretty damn similar between tribes and planetside

"My experiences with the grounder consist of having my mosquito drop to half health because a stock mosquito has no flares. So in my mind the downside is unless the target just wants to hang out, the grounder probably wont drop many aircraft. I'm thinking it might be good for support or as a nuisance, but it can't do much alone."
also haha sunderers at biolabs everywhere
tbh i love the idea of the APC being the primary spawn vehicle. ever since that change the game has became so much more rewarding other than way fucked up damage
Yeah I love that, it gives sunderers an use as before there was no reason to roll with one.
Though it still makes me sad that you can cert the Galaxy to be just like before so eventually, Galaxy will > Sunderers once again.
Can anyone help me with my video problem?
How do certs get unlocked? Do I just automatically get them as time goes on? Are they kill based? Are they based on capturing bases?

the devs said spawning on galaxies will be probably squad-only and will have a cooldown so not really
1k exp = 1 cert

you gain experience from both. experience goes towards gaining certs as well as your battle ranking (but I think you gain your BR according to how many certs you've earned instead of how much XP you've earned, but correct me if I'm wrong)
right now the cert gain is REALLY awful. it's very difficult to get certifications. that and a lot of items are ridiculously priced. 10 certs for a combat scope/40 for a foregrip is absurd to me because you could be spending those on things that would actually help
I remember one time as a TR when we made a big tunnel into NC territory, and then got pushed back. I was at The Stronghold, and we where surrounded by NC territory. It was a good fight.
We lasted way longer then I expected we would, we had infiltrators, tanks, liberators, reavers, all of that shit coming down on us. Held it for a good half hour of intense fighting.

Active cert gain is better than before, the problem is that there is no passive cert gain to pad the cert income.
Got my key yesterday. What server are people mostly playing on?
Goddamnit, what the fuck do I have to do to get this game not totally blurry as all shit. Do they just need to patch some more? I understand this is a beta, but I haven't really had a game that was this blurry and muddy since Red Orchestra 2. Nothing looks crisp, everything is hard to concentrate on, tried everything and it still looks bad. Game also suffers from flickery glitchiness from far distances. I know I posted this last page, but I just got page king and nobody has been wanting to help me with this.
yeah, i've had the blur issue too. it's even that way with everything on low and even with anti-aliasing off it's still kind of apparent (i've forced AA off in the nvidia control panel)
BUT the bluriness only seems to be apparent in menus. like if you're in the main menu and you see your character on the right, they look blurry. if you're switching characters, they look blurry. but in the actual game it looks alright so i don't know.
[editline]24th September 2012[/editline]
also i should state i have everything on max with AA forced to 16x but i turned it off to see if i could remove the blur. i'm not sure what causes it and apparently there's no way to fix it. but when the game is in motion it looks fine until you look down the iron sights. i don't know if it's some kind of DOF gone bad or what because i too have noticed my aiming seriously being impaired by iron sights because the muzzle sightpiece being a blurry mass that blends in to your target area
This game is unplayable for me at the moment. I guess I'll hold it off until I build a new computer.

After the patch and I jumped in with a couple friends, we all have quite high end computers, the game felt much more sharper with 'better AA' than before.
I guess experiences vary depending on graphic settings / hardware.
i'm wondering if it's a possible nvidia problem. that sounds weird but i have another machine that i play that has an amd/ati 5770 in it and it runs the game as sharp as can be, but my nvidia 660 makes it look blurry. it's a little strange because typically games running on nvidia cards look better anyway.
plus apparently PS2 has physx but i've not seen anything really physx oriented in it. not even debris from gunshots. can anybody confirm this?

i'm wondering if one of the cards play it on AAA and the other plays it on FXAA or something. I don't think it'd make much of a difference but one is supposed to be edge detection AA and the other is supposed to "know" where the edge is so it doesn't have to calculate that... or something. i don't even know what i'm talking about but it's always left me curious why two different cards display it differently
it's almost as if you're playing ARMA with the 3D resolution set wrong.

By Chaldene, how horrifying!
Also I don't know if I am having a shitty first experience with the game, but along with the game being really terrible on the video end, the game is actually....kind of boring.
I don't know if this is just because there aren't many people playing the beta or something, but I could only find a few people and there wasn't really much going on at all. I don't know how to chat either, but apparently nobody is really chatting anyways. it felt almost depressing because of how open and empty things were. I also figured out about doing that instant action thing but it dropped me in a really remote area and there was no fighting at all.

I am using a 5750 here. It's not just the menus that are bad, the entire game has this slight blur and the AA is fucking terrible and glitchy looking. Also noticing some mouse lag, the same kind of mouse lag that happens when you turn AA and Vsync on, but none of those options are on. (there isn't even an AA option). Can I go into a cfg file and editing anything?
I know it's just a beta, but so far I have had a very disappointing first day after being so hype about this game.
The thing about PS1... well, for your sake I'll talk about PS2 exclusively:
most folk that play join squads. Right now squads are kind of iffy (and even worse when there's four squads in a platoon because platoons are glitchy as hell). Typically you squad up with a few guys who talk on VOIP and go from there. If you play with me, I can rally up a twelve man squad in about ten minutes, kick the retards like infiltrators and other guys who run off and do their own thing, and fill it up again at warpgate and we'll be rolling out and capturing back points immediately afterwards. It all boils down to your social level and your comfort level.
I'd say since you're new, find a squad that's active. The squads that have more players are usually the ones that have better organization but sometimes that's not true. Listen to the squad leader if he's giving orders and try to communicate back. That doesn't mean you have to do it via verbally or by typing. I can communicate to a twelve man squad as a squad leader and not have them say a single peep to me. I give out orders, drop a waypoint and watch them get on it like hounds. They highlight targets with the Q key and scuttle an objective marker, capture a zone and we're mobile again and ready to go.
VOIP makes the game 200% better because that's what it's made for. When you join a functional squad and participate with a team, the game plays out like no other. You'll have the time of your life and hours will fly by once you do that.
Also, a quick fix to your game is to just buy a reflex sight. TR has the best and it sounds like you're TR anyways. I think the visual issue will just always be there so it's something you're going to have to live with like I did.

The instant action and hotspots are just broken, don't listen to them, today I've literally had the most action in The Crown where it was VS vs NC vs TR and each sides had a minimum of like 15 tanks fielded at any given time ontop of a metric shitton of other vehicles and it didn't even pop up as a hotspot on the map, meanwhile Rashnu Bio Lab was in the Hotspot and there was like 2 NC and 1 TR there.
I might start recording myself play the game so people can learn how to manage squads and platoons properly. Everything I do is very "textbook" and my squads and platoons decimate barneys like it's no big deal
And it's funny because it's all pubbies
[editline]24th September 2012[/editline]
Yeah, instant action is great when you need to get close to your squad when you're far away but half of the time it sends you 4000m away
