Fixed it by debugging the executable and finding out what was crashing it.
dinput.dll was causing an exception, unplugging my xbox controller fixed it.

A bit better, but this game needs some optimization patches before it's good to go.
For the 10th time you guys need to never run the game on low/lowest
That puts everything on the CPU, which makes it actually run a lot worse for almost every computer that has a video card. Run at least on medium.
Also run with the renderer set to 85. You get better performance, and no quality loss. Also don't run with motion blur, its too fuzzy/blurry right now.
This has been true since the beggning of the beta. I max PS2 out perfectly fine on a 560Ti with a 2500k i5 and 8gb of ram.
If you can't run the game at all even on medium settings with any level of good performance then its likely because:
1. You are running with a core 2 duo or similar. This game is not optimized currently for that line of processors. It WILL run slow on them. It is also not optimized for duel cores yet - if you want consistent performance you need a quad right now. This shouldn't be the case on release, but currently the engine is only optimized and tuned for quads and iX line of processors and the AMD equivalents.
2. You have low ram. You need at least 4gb to run this, 8GB to make sure you have zero memory issues, and this will not likely change in the future. My bf can play fine generally with his 4GB, but its not ideal (there are moments of stutter/low performance occasionally).
3. This game is heavily HDD dependant. If you have a slow drive or one that is heavily fragmented, or one that is very full the game will run slower than normal.

this isn't true since about 10 patches ago. the tests have been done. also you get terrible quality loss with render set to 85%, especially at longer distances, there's no denying that.
If you want good performance, wait for their currently 10 man optimization team to get shit fixed, or buy a gpu and cpu for $1000~
edit: another thing that can be lagging people since the last patch is the render distance they've forced everyone onto which is 9999 in useroptions.ini in the game folder. edit that to 2048 or 4096, I suggest not going below 2000 though

That's what I'm running on. It's installed to the Samsung drive. Maybe it's the processor that's causing issues. I know, there's no sense in prying into it now- all this stuff comes with the nature of a beta. But, still.
I've tried tweaking, I've tried running on low medium high, I've tried every possible change short of reformatting my computer, I still can't get more than 20 FPS sitting in warpgate on a midspec system.

It's the CPU and they haven't optimized the game at all yet. So you get to pick between waiting or buying a new CPU even though yours is already good just to play a badly optimized game.

I'm going to be overhauling the mobo and processor before I go off to Uni next fall, but, for now, I'm sticking to this. Perhaps the next patch will help.

It's a similar rig to mine and I get 60+ out of combat and 40-50 in combat at max 1920x1080

No shit, I don't need 60FPS for smooth gameplay 30-40 works perfectly fine for me. If I needed 60+ FPS all the time I wouldn't have gotten a 560ti
