Does anyone here still have a spare Planetside 2 key?
Does anyone here still have a spare Planetside 2 key?
No one here creates beta keys, if you want a beta key you need to do what everyone else here did and its nagging @planetside2 on twitter and ask them for it.
takes about an hour or so, but they pretty much give a key to anyone that asks VIA direct message so you'll have to follow them first.
finally getting around to playing the new patch and my draw distance has absolutely tanked, i cant see any players past like 50 yards
what is even causing this

I spent 4 hours at it and just said fuck it and waited till i got an automated invite from the sign-up system with no priority key whatsoever. Got in a few days ago.

I know they were already "talking about" continental conquest, but this is pretty much the first solid answer on the subject. Good to see it definitely in the works.
Hmm it still won't be 'conquest' but it's better than what we've got. I don't think its going to work still with only 3 continents and the 'footholds' should be sanctuaries off any continents.
I had the one warpgate per continent in my mind for a long time, but an issue I always think about is:
Won't that have the potential to slow everything down by a lot? See Esamir. NC only is on Esamir, they don't care about Indar.

Cross-continent resources would solve that. The massive Auraxium gain is the only reason they stay on Esamir.
I find Esamir to be way more fun to fight on than Indar.
So do I, until there's nobody left to fight.
I still love the feeling you get, closing in on a facility with my Vanu teamates, seeing it emerge out of the fog in the distance as bullets and explosives fly past, the sound of the battles in the sky and rumble of tanks...
What kind of machine do you need to run this game with decent FPS? I got the graphics set to Low and I still lag. Didnt the Dev Team said they want to game to run smoothly even on older machines?

Medium runs better than low because low just dumps everything onto the CPU

I thought they fixed it? At least I heard some people do get better fps on low, so it might vary from PC to PC.
I can't join any server. What is this?
Also, European Facepunchers, which servers are you?
Servers are down right now and there is only one EU and one US server at the moment. Actually there is another server today but don't know if its US or EU.
The new one is US East.

I actually like the fog on esamir.
Zooming around in my mossie to suddenly see an crystal spire appear and having to bank hard then suddenly you find yourself flying over a massive battle with vague shapes and tracers flying all over the place.
It's a different playstyle to Indar.
Maybe they could have the fog lift like a weather pattern.
I liked it at first for that same reason, but after trying it without fog I can't see myself switching it back on. Esamir just looks too beautiful for me to justify covering it all up again.

I would be okay if they had it on a weather cycle, but until that happens I'm not going back.
EDIT: Better example video:

That last video doesn't help the fact that they filmed the nofog at night where it naturally looks better and the lack of atmospheric scattering looks less silly.
Pure nofog looks bad in the day, like you're playing Halo 1 or something.
Perhaps the distance of the fog should be 1,5 times further. Sometimes it feels too close, but without any fog at all looks really weird.
That is what happened on Indar, where in the tech test it was like playing on Venus and over the next few patches they pushed it back until it is what we've got now.
But it makes less sense to have fog on indar than esamir.
Personally I like the fog on Esamir, it creates a really cool atmosphere. I also like how there's a lot of dust blowing around in Indar's desert areas, but hate the fog that pops up during the night in the forests (I'm really bad at remembering the names and locations of bases).
Wish it still got as dark as it did in the preview videos from a few months ago.
The one faction having a permanent warpgate thing sounds like it will cause most of the fighting to occur around the other two warp-gates on each continent, with the home continents almost completely run by the faction that "owns" them.
I really don't know what's so bad about having a sanctuary as a homebase.. You wouldn't need to go there unless you really wanted to.
I wouldn't be massively surprised if we saw sancs being added in at some point.
Apperently in-game chat also likes to derail a lot. This discussion about if the eye has a certain fps has been going on for like 15 minutes now all while there's a huge battle :v:

oh god the nc zerg rush found a vehicle spawner, tanks keep rolling out constantly
I realized I have been invited to the Beta and am now in the process of downloading the game through the launcher. Anything I should know before playing? How optimized is this game?

It's not horribly optomized but with my Core2duo and HD5770 and 4 gigs of RAM I need to run it at a tiny resolution (1024x768) on my 1080p monitor.

On low.
Is editing .ini configuration files possible in order to optimize it further?
