What time do they start up in GMT?
I hope this doesn't come out as begging, but could someone get/give me a key? I myself don't have time to stalk this thread or PS2-related stuff to snatch one up, and my Twitter-messages seem to turn invisible on the way. I've been trying for a couple of months, I can't seem to get one. Oh, and if it matters, I'm in EU.
This is a list of keys Higby gave out 6 hours ago, its possible some of them aren't taken
Welp, I may try those when I get home, but that will be another 4 hours. I doubt any of them work by then. My workplace has a really anal firewall that allows very few sites, Facepunch luckily being one of them. :v:
Good god the Bolt Driver slaps shit.

Just got the beta downloading now 1.3gb to go anything I should know?
Oh my god your title is so big~ On topic, most of the stuff is pretty self explanatory, I'd never heard of plantside until a week or so before I got into the beta, and everything was easy enough to figure out
Just got the beta downloading now 1.3gb to go anything I should know?
If you join the NC we will hate you forever and ever
Oh God the NC just uberzerged Freyr Amp Station on EU, I was just manning a turret minding my own business when suddenly Reavers and Vanguards, thousands of them
Oh my god your title is so big~ On topic, most of the stuff is pretty self explanatory, I'd never heard of plantside until a week or so before I got into the beta, and everything was easy enough to figure out
No, he will join us, because NC WILL GROW LARGER.
No, he will join us, because NC WILL GROW LARGER.
NC has been generous! Building the NC empire!
I'd expect NC to be GLA, although the eternal Zerg does fit China
No, he will join us, because NC WILL GROW LARGER.
NO we're full. Go Vanu, they're pretty cool guys.
The sad thing is Vanu is USA as they're the ones with the tech.
I'd expect NC to be GLA, although the eternal Zerg does fit China
Now if you just merged zerg rushes with tr's terrible living conditions, weapons and skill levels we'd have a perfect match! [sp]Totally not racist btw, if you think about it as deeply as I did[/sp]
Just got the beta, should I feel like a special snowflake or is everyone on it these days?
Is the ammo supplier cert for the sunderer bugged or is everyone just not using it? (which is really annoying when driving a tank which just ran out ammo)
Just got the beta, should I feel like a special snowflake or is everyone on it these days?
well i'm not in, so you SHOULD feel special. ;__;
[t]http://goo.gl/EUyJh[/t] also how the fuck do I use the elevators now? Are they bugged? [editline]10th October 2012[/editline] [vid]http://goo.gl/GusKp[/vid]
I'm all for this. Some kind of "Imbalance Tax" on resources based on how much your faction outnumbers the enemy on that continent. You want more resources? Go to a continent where your faction needs you.
How about passive resources still work like they do now, but the bonus you get from XP, and XP in general, is seriously reduced if you have high population. The idea is, that the resources have to spread between your high pop faction instead of the same resources spreading between a lower pop faction. So in effect, that could be justification for why, if you play on a server with 60% pop, you might make only 0.5% of XP into araxium/etc instead of the default 4% of XP. And maybe your rate you get XP could change too, so you only get 60 XP for a point capture instead of 100. That alone would incentivise a faction from over-populating a single continent, while not really screwing with passive rates or ruining income (aka making it so its still valuble to stick around and defend). Or they could just join economies of two different contenants across the whole empire. So you get X rate per 5 mins based on both what you have on Esamir and Indar, not just whereever you are. This idea would work a lot better though if they joined the conts, and gave each faction a "home continant", like was potentialy mentioned they might try once they come out with Amerish. Of course this idea has downsides too. It would make base captures even more meaningless, because instead of Hvar being a key capture in the total production your team gets of Auraxium out of a total of 9 possible bases you could capture, it would simply be a small victory because you already own 9 main bases across all conts. And if they did this, araxium rates would have to be reduced per base in order to not make it so a faction can get 200 araxium per 5 min by having 9 bases controlled across all the conts.
It happens when your health bugs out. quick med beam and it'll work again.
[vid]http://goo.gl/GusKp[/vid]
i'm sorry you're too fat
Is the ammo supplier cert for the sunderer bugged or is everyone just not using it? (which is really annoying when driving a tank which just ran out ammo)
The latter I imagine. I've successfully used it once on one sunderer before so I know it works They need to put little ammo icons on the minimap or hud when you pop into a vehicle to let you know which sundy's can give ammo and which cant
[t]http://goo.gl/EUyJh[/t] also how the fuck do I use the elevators now? Are they bugged? [editline]10th October 2012[/editline] [vid]http://goo.gl/GusKp[/vid]
why would that elevator let you use it after you shot it like a MEANIE
Holy shit, on my very first play I pretty much instantly bought the MAX-suit (because it looked cool), then walked around completely lost for 30 minutes before I proceeded to kill like 30 guys before dying for the first time. Then I decided to buy an aircraft and instantly crash it into the ground because flying y-axis wasn't inverted. Then I changed it to inverted and crashed AGAIN because I decided to be smart and "remember" that it wasn't inverted. Slapped my face pretty hard. :v: Also, I like how the tanks kill you if you are touching their side when they start moving. I died a couple of times to that in a row, thanks to BF3, and some guy started raging at me about it.
This guy has comprehensively summed up the problems with PS2 at the current time. I quite liked how he described how the PS1 soundtrack really affected how people felt about the game. http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/mega-discussion-what-can-we-learn-from-ps1-10-9-2012.29516/
Honestly I disagree with a ton of his points. He does the typical "I am right, you are wrong, and it will always be that way" psudo-intellecutal bullshit arguments that people like that always use - in that his points are full of logical fallacies like hasty generalizations that don't take into account good aspects in both systems. He frequently says things are "wrong" or "bad" with how planetside 2 handles it simply because its different from how PS1 handled it, and explains why PS1 was good instead of explaining why PS2 is bad. There's a specific term for this logical fallacy, but I can't remember the name. In any case, instead of saying "PS2's inclusions of courtyards and less emphasis on hallways is bad because of X..." he goes on by saying "PS2's inclusions of courtyards and less emphasis on halways is bad. PS1 is good because it didnt have these things." Or my favorite, how he argues against PS2's nature for twitch shooting, by saying that that twitch shooting is automatically bad because it wasn't like that in PS1. He gives zero reasons why things are flawed, and only mentions that it is bad because it isn't like something that is good. For example, he says twitch shooting and lower times-to-kill has zero elements of tactics, when it can be heavily arugued (and I tend to agree, since I grew up on these types of shooters) that the statement is completely false. Yet the author pretends that such a statement is a universal fact, which is why the devs should change it (as if them having the gameplay be like this was an overlooked mistake). Because many who are familiar with tactical-shooting genres (famous for "one shot dead" extremes of gameplay), know for a fact that gameplay tactics plays a HUGE role in such games. In ArmA or Americas Army, if you play without respect to tactical movements, taking apropreate cover, using real-world strategies such as flanking, "starving the castle", etc, you will lose out to the enemy that does do these things in a tactically thought out manner. This is because you can't simply waltz in and shoot-the-dudes because otherwise you'll be killed quickly (due to the low time-to-kill). Etc. He raises good minor issues PS2 has, and some of his points are good to be brough up, but the majority of his article is psudo-intellectual bullshit and full of logical fallacies. It can be summed up almost entirely by saying "Planetside 2 is seriously flawed, because it isn't like Planetside 1 which was not flawed" (logical error: assuming that planetside 1 had no flaws in its design when it was not perfect either, as well as assuming that something is flawed only because it is not like something that is not flawed, which ignores a large mass of ideas/design that could go into a game like PS2 and make it not flawed).
Stupid question, but how do you change the HUD?
The two big issues for me right now are optimization, which is largely out of my hands and just something I have to wait for I guess, and how hard it is to get a good fight going and where that fight goes. It seems like there has to be a perfect storm of two zergs meeting to get a fight going and the end of those fights is usually spawncamping. The biggest problem this game is going to have hooking new players is getting them into a fight ASAP. They can talk about their persistent campaigns, dynamic frontlines, and command element, but at the end of the day I can join a Battlefield 3 server and squadspawn into a 32v32 deathmatch. Meanwhile in Planetside 2 I spawn at a warpgate, get a vehicle, drive across a continent, end up at a fight that, depending on where it goes, lasts 20 seconds or 2 hours. As much as I hated the lattice system overall in PS1, it did a very good job of focusing the fight. If you took a base, there was only one way to go: the next base. In PS2 nobody really knows where to go and the zerg falls apart because everywhere is a frontline. Part of this is a community problem; PS1 worked so well because it was a very niche title, especially in the latter years where it had almost no advertising. You had to look for it to find it and those that did actually put in the effort to play. Meanwhile, PS2 is a free2play game launching in the holiday season of 2012. It's going to pull in all the bad apples from the other, more casual shooters like CoD and Battlefield. There's nothing that can really stop this except maybe a command system which doesn't seem to be in any rush to be implemented. Overall I really, really like PS2 as a PS1 vet who played for 6 years. But I have to admit it feels more like a really big game of Battlefield than Planetside. This was obviously intentional, given Higby's constant praise for BF3 through the hype phase earlier this year, I just hope that more additions to the game make it feel more unique than it is right now. As an FPS it works well. tl;dr: Sky isn't falling, but it could use improvements.
I played PS1 for 2 years and somewhat enjoy PS2 more for some reason which I can't explain.
