Do you get xp for supplying tanks with ammo using the ammo supply cert?
[editline]10th October 2012[/editline]
I'm not sure if it's working either now since I don't get any notifications.
average of 10 FPS
yeaaaah let's do this
Honestly I disagree with a ton of his points. He does the typical "I am right, you are wrong, and it will always be that way" psudo-intellecutal bullshit arguments that people like that always use - in that his points are full of logical fallacies like hasty generalizations that don't take into account good aspects in both systems.
He frequently says things are "wrong" or "bad" with how planetside 2 handles it simply because its different from how PS1 handled it, and explains why PS1 was good instead of explaining why PS2 is bad. There's a specific term for this logical fallacy, but I can't remember the name. In any case, instead of saying "PS2's inclusions of courtyards and less emphasis on hallways is bad because of X..." he goes on by saying "PS2's inclusions of courtyards and less emphasis on halways is bad. PS1 is good because it didnt have these things."
Or my favorite, how he argues against PS2's nature for twitch shooting, by saying that that twitch shooting is automatically bad because it wasn't like that in PS1. He gives zero reasons why things are flawed, and only mentions that it is bad because it isn't like something that is good. For example, he says twitch shooting and lower times-to-kill has zero elements of tactics, when it can be heavily arugued (and I tend to agree, since I grew up on these types of shooters) that the statement is completely false. Yet the author pretends that such a statement is a universal fact, which is why the devs should change it (as if them having the gameplay be like this was an overlooked mistake). Because many who are familiar with tactical-shooting genres (famous for "one shot dead" extremes of gameplay), know for a fact that gameplay tactics plays a HUGE role in such games. In ArmA or Americas Army, if you play without respect to tactical movements, taking apropreate cover, using real-world strategies such as flanking, "starving the castle", etc, you will lose out to the enemy that does do these things in a tactically thought out manner. This is because you can't simply waltz in and shoot-the-dudes because otherwise you'll be killed quickly (due to the low time-to-kill).
Etc.
He raises good minor issues PS2 has, and some of his points are good to be brough up, but the majority of his article is psudo-intellectual bullshit and full of logical fallacies. It can be summed up almost entirely by saying "Planetside 2 is seriously flawed, because it isn't like Planetside 1 which was not flawed" (logical error: assuming that planetside 1 had no flaws in its design when it was not perfect either, as well as assuming that something is flawed only because it is not like something that is not flawed, which ignores a large mass of ideas/design that could go into a game like PS2 and make it not flawed).
Yeah I skimmed through most of it and it certainly felt he just say "Its not good because it isn't PS1." When I reached the part about T-ray and if he played PS1 I found it just silly and unnecessary. His entire point in that section was it doesn't look like PS1. I saw no real reason to call him out personally on that.
PS2 is not as good as PS1. There, done.
However, PS2 is by no means a bad game. It's fun as fuck and I see it having serious potential once the clean the beta rust off.
I'd approach this with a bit more discernment and say that PS2 and PS1 are both fun for different reasons and because of/despite of certain limitations. PS1 definitely feels more unique though.
I have no criticisms about any game I do not have to pay for. It can't not be worth your money if it is free. The only exception would be if it installs malware and/or viruses on your computer or if I were to actually use the micro-transactions.
Aye. PS2 is esentially just a bigger Battlefield game. And while there is nothing necessarily wrong with that, I can certainly see why people are peeved.
they really have no reason to though, it's ridiculous that people think 9 and a half year old game mechanics and design will still hold up today
whats the point of asking for a new game when you dont actually want it to be a "new game"
The thing I'm peeved about is the meta-game being complete shit. It's so obvious that it is broken. NC has camped Esamir constantly since it was released and The Vanu TR and NC are all camped around The Crown for the past 2 days constantly fighting and getting no where.
Am I alone that I suspect that PS2 will be ultimately better than PS1? Once they fix all the obvious problems with 2.
I love ps1 to death, but getting to play it again when they gave us all that free time I realised somethings are best left in Nostalgiastan.

Why would you get peeved about an obvious beta issue?

As an MMOFPS? Yes. As a unique title on the market? Eh.
does this game work kinda like GA AvA?
Because I can tell it won't be a beta issue. 3 continents on launch for 3 factions isn't going to work. I avoided Cyssor all the time in PS1 due to the three-ways that always happened there that lasted days and never went anywhere. That is exactly what Indar is and is going to remain. The other continents will be the same because there is nowhere else to fight.
does this game work kinda like GA AvA?
No.
Oh god I managed to rally a 200 tank NC convoy in Eurydome.
The entire base is filled to the brim with NC armour what have I done poor VS

But Higby said from the beginning that they're changing it and we have to kinda deal with it for now.

I'll believe it when I see it, I just don't see changing the footholds is going to solve it.

I saw that, jesus christ was I shitting the bed when I went outside and saw tanks as far as the eye could see.
It was like World of Tanks.
oh my jesus, 83% NC on Esamir. They control everything but warp gates now. We can safely say that we know which faction needs to get reworked

That's exactly what the entire tank army was saying too, it was awesome how we forgot about the plan and just zerged the bases with 200 tanks one at a time. Unfortunately I lost track of the convoy but I bet it's still ravaging around VS area.
Switch sides while you can.
[t]http://goo.gl/EUyJh[/t]
also how the fuck do I use the elevators now? Are they bugged?
[editline]10th October 2012[/editline]
[vid]http://goo.gl/GusKp[/vid]
There seems to be a bug with spawning or something. Quite often I spawn and it says I have 0 hp. When this bug happens, it also makes me unable to use the lifts or launch pads. The way to fix it (for me at least) is to just go to a weapon terminal and resupply or change class.
No.
but it does? the only difference is that each hex isn't a separate instance
I spawned and then was instantly teamkilled.
oh my jesus, 83% NC on Esamir. They control everything but warp gates now. We can safely say that we know which faction needs to get reworked
This faction is overpopulated. Better nerf them.
EDIT: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/beta-status-and-upcoming-changes-auraxium-edition-10-10-12.30178/
Earning Auraxium passively based on territory control is causing a lot of issues with the meta-game. It's contributing to players 'squatting' on a continent when there's no active fight there, and it's rewarding people for doing nothing useful or fun. In the next update we'll be moving Auraxium gain over to an active reward for earning xp. You will no longer earn Auraxium passively for holding facilities on the map. There are a lot of support actions (spotting, squad revives, transport, logistics) which don't have all their experience rewards, but our goal is to reward with xp for all useful actions in the game, and therefore you'll also now be earning Auraxium that way as well. This should help a lot with the issues of people squatting on continents, and also make it so that empires with no presence on a continent are not actively discouraged from going to fight there because they're giving up the passive Auraxium gain on the continent they did hold territory on.
And...
We've got some bad cert prices up right now specifically for weapon attachments. Many of the attachments are priced in odd and unintuitive ways. We're going through these now and setting better prices. What you'll see with this change is something along the lines of this for a theoretical weapon's optic attachments:
Reflex Sight - Cost: 6 cert points - Requirement: None
3.4x Scope - Cost: 12 cert points - Requirement: 6 cert points spent on optics
4x Scope - Cost: 12 cert points - Requirement: 6 cert points spent on optics
4x laser Scope - Cost: 12 cert points - Requirement: 6 cert points spent on optics
7x Scope - Cost: 12 cert points - Requirement: 6 cert points spent on optics
IRNV Scope - Cost: 24 cert points - Requirement: 30 cert points spent on optics

but it does? the only difference is that each hex isn't a separate instance
Thats a pretty big fucking difference.
Speaking of Auraxium, how long would it take a decent player to get 12.5k?
Thats a pretty big fucking difference.
why? in ps2 each little hex battle for a base plays out just like an individual match in an fps anyway
its much cooler having an open world, but the idea of 'capturing hex based territory for resources' is exactly the same
Speaking of Auraxium, how long would it take a decent player to get 12.5k?
way too long, resource gain is too slow
From what I've read, most of the weapons you can unlock are pretty pointless -but vehicle weapon unlocks can make or break a battle, and they are almost impossible to purchase because of how much they cost.
I managed to get a basilisk 20 or whatever it's called on my Flash once and I would rack up kills all day with that setup. my one flash could easily wipe out 2 or 3 tanks just by circling them and shooting
[editline]10th October 2012[/editline]
on top of that I also cut down the respawn timer all the way so it was a pretty slick setup
I think the launchers are pretty useful too, being able to easily put a rocket into a moving tank or Liberator is great
Just bought the 120mm (or was it 150mm?) anti-tank cannon for my liberator.
Hopefully this will help with dealing with the hoards of tanks and AA emplacements.
What's it like?
