Planetside 2 Thread v2 - Beta floodgates open GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY

Just gone through my first large scale assault on Allatum Bio Labs...
What an immersive experience.
I would love to try this game out but I'm always late for cd key :/
Is it just me or is cert gain abysmal

It was messy.
Would be grateful if any of you sent a beta key my way, pretty please?
Cert and auraxium gain is pretty pathetic.
Although they're supposed to be improving cert gain and removing auraxium and turning it into exp with the next patch or 2.
I don't know how they'll handle the exp though. If they keep the current exp rate and prices the same it should be ok-ish. I fear they will hike the prices or something though.
I just hope they convert arax into XP. I'm only 1000 arax from the sniper I want, and if I lose it all when they switch to cert-only system for new weapons, I'll be a sad panda.
That said I'm wondering how they'll handle it. They said they would increase the rate at which you get XP, which makes lower end unlocked (like scopes and minor class specilizations) easier to get, but I wouldn't doubt they'll make it so weapons cost a lot of certs to get too, making most people not want to invest into their character certs at all because of it.
I.E. if it cost 500 certs to get a sniper, then I feel like I wont bother spending poitns to upgrade my infiltrator because of me wanting that gun. At the same time, it seems like it would be detrimentally easy to just make a character, never play it for months, then come back with 2000+ offline certs gained. I don't know if that's ideal either. And the other option of making it so you don't get offline certs anymore (as otherwise characters could literally generate cash by not being used) doesn't sound good to me. Not to mention the weird disconnect it'll be between "character certs" and "weapon certs", considering you are supposed to be able to spend SC on new weapons, but you can't spend SC on new character certs, despite BOTH character certs and weapon unlock certs using the same "cert" resource. I dunno.
It just makes me go, "Araxium isn't all that bad you know". I feel like it'll be better in the long run to just keep it like it is, and actually fix/refine it. Leave Certs for actual character progresison, and as something you can never outright buy. Leave araxium for unlocks, and for things you can actually buy. But yet, at the same time, there's really nothing to spend Araxium on except high end stuff, or implants. With them making it so certs also act as araxium, we'll finally be able to invest into smaller stuff (class unlocks/progression/scopes/etc) as well as trying to save up for big stuff (new weapons).

Goddamn the NC guns sound so much better to fire than the VS ones
Also look cooler :(
I can actually get kills with VS guns I've found however.
I noticed 3/4 of the vehicles for the 3 empire are just reskins of eachother. Is this a temporary thing or is it going to stay this way?
It's a bit odd seeing the Vanu with a Magrider and a lightning side-by-side.
It's because those are made by Nanite Systems (NS) corporation and are bought by empires (afaik). They do plan to add more vehicles.
It would be nice if those NS vehicles would have some minor customization by empires. Like NC lightning would have cosmetic armor plates on it, VS would have some glowy stuff and TR one would look even more slim? Iono, but this would feel like empires do have some military and scientists and are not just corporations buying tanks and sponsoring the war, etc.
That's a good idea.
Right now there are only 2 vehicles per empire which are unique. (The heavy tank and the fighter aircraft). Everything else is a reskin.
Regardless of the lore behind it, I find it quite lazy.
Indeed. I get major CNC Renegade vibes from this game and that game had different vehicles for both factions. It made factions and vehicles so memorable. I hope they will completely remodel the shared vehicles.

That stuff is already in the cosmetic store exactly as you described lol
For aircraft at least, the vehicle ones are not finished.
Such as you can buy a 'TR' galaxy which has streamlined fins and shit, where was the VS gal looks a little more jagged and alien, and NC more bulky.
Same with the liberator.
This was from a couple patches ago so I'm not sure if it's still in.
and while I'm at it, does anyone else think Lightning looks like Nod light tank (most left) and Vanguard looks like GDI medium tank (middle one)

Well, I didn't play lately, but I don't think I would notice it from medium-far distance. I mean it's still better than nothing, but I just want to recognize it by looking at the outline or shape of it.

Besides, cosmetic store is cosmetic store. Not everyone will buy it.

In f2p you got to pay to look different.
The cosmetic stuff doesn't (should) never impact gameplay, so buying it is completely optional. I don't care too much about looking good in a game.
I would rather just spend $60 (or a monthly sub) to get a full featured game rather than having to buy everything in pieces.
Well that is probably why you're not going to get a job in video game marketing.
This game would bomb if it had that payment and population model.
Planetside 1 managed to pull it off just fine.
Planetside 1 was built for a much smaller population in mind.
As we can tell from certain points in the beta and tech test. Planetside 2 isn't that great with only ~100-300 people online.
My computer can't run the game and I don't know anybody who wants to get into the beta, so here's some keys.

That's not the point I'm trying to make. I don't want to look different, I want empires not to share same vehicle.
Might as well make all weapons look same and have different models to buy in the shop.

Well no because each factional weapons perform the cornerstone of each different play style.
Lightnings and flashes are not critical vehicles for this.
They're all auxiliary and support shit at best.

Thanks, my two friends got them! Really excited to play with them now.
Damn it, why the hell do betas have to be closed?

I would agree but tbh I think F2P is the perfect type of game for planetside
You NEED to have thousands of drones constantly playing/joining to get the full effect. Problem with PS1 was you not only had to "buy it" (at least, at first), but you had to pay a monthly fee to keep playing. This kept the userbase smaller than it could have been, though generally said userbase always had access to the full level stuff the game had to offer. One of the best things SoE did for PS1 was when they had the Reserves for a year, where you could play the game for free up to BR6. This finally breathed population back into the game.
For PS2, the max number of players is literally 3-5X that of PS1's, and that game is still somewhat large compared to most FPS's out there. If you want the community to stay active, and to have that large scale for a long time throughout the lifetime of the game, the barrier to entry needs to be really really low. Which is why F2P is perfect - it means anyone can play for free, have fun while doing so, but they can still make a lot of money from thousands of players spending $5-$10 over the lifetime of their game time they play on PS2. And because you don't have to buy into it, its easy to roll out a big update and bring people back in without having to worry about people needing to re-sub. Which keeps the populations high, and the game active for a long time, and people interested in still playing it BECAUSE populations are always high (which means you get the sense of scale PS2 advertises).
If PS2 just costed $60 and you had all the cosmetics and no araxium or anything the player base would be horrendously smaller, and there would be much less people playing it a year down the line. Keeping it f2p means that all servers can enjoy full populations for a very long time, especially if the game is popular enough and interesting enough to draw in those new gamers.
In this case it's to prevent too many people from overloading the servers at once. They're currently stress-testing so if it was a open beta it would probably tank immediately.
A* pun
Sorry that I wasn't clear enough. Can I get another key, but could you PM me please?
Someone took the other too quick.

Never said make all weapons function the same, just look the same. Heh.
But really, I'm curious why they made the way it is. I don't think it was that difficult to make, like, 12 extra models. I don't mind flashes being the same, it is really a simple ATV and it shouldn't be that different, but tanks?

Damnit, I thought facepunch was more respectful than that. Sorry, I'm fresh out.
How do you find out if you have extra keys?
