Which draw distance would you guys recommend as the absolute minumum draw distance for infantry/ground vehicle combat? I've currently set mine to 1500 and it makes doing AA properly difficult, and my PC still crashes after 10-30 minutes of gameplay.
Are there any other unconventional things I can do to optimize memory usage? It seems to leak a bit.
maxed out is minimum for me, draw distance is absolutely the only thing I can't compromise on
When's the EU server back up? It's down for me, anyway...
2 hours
I haven't been able to play for the game since the second continent was added in, due to horrible optimization where it ran well before then.
Has there been a lot of optimization since then? I'd rather not waste valuable limited internet when it doesn't run well enough for me to play.

How would we know how well it will run on your computer? It has always run perfectly for me, on high at like 60 fps.

Well if someone else has seen a jump of dip in performance, especially on a lower end system like mine, there is a good chance a lot of people get the same drop.
Do we have a Facepunch group for games? I really wanna get into playing this some more but would prefer to play in a group rather than getting obliterated on my own
Well we have the Terran Mobile Infantry on the EU server.
But I'm not being very active at the moment, so not to burn out before the release. I'm not sure about Hezzy though.
I get "Your account is not authorized to access the game at this time." when i try to play, I have been able to play earlier today.
bant?
The servers are done because they are rolling back a patch.
No, the launcher is just being retarded. If you get the error "You're not allowed to access the game" or whatever it says, just keep trying and eventually it will work.

Yeah i had that too, allmost fucking shat myself. Just keep trying, reload the launcher.
Is the NC shotty worth the certs?
Does Facepunch have a VS outfit on Eurydome?
Having gal drops is damn hard nowadays. People die if you're force dropping them from maximum height because if silly rocks and slopes, and you get instakilled by the army of skyguards on low height.
I really hope that this game doesn't get released "on time." is there a petition going? there is no possible way that this game will be any good when it comes out
the biggest problem is obviously it's going to be masqueraded behind all of the other big november releases. whoever thought that this was a good idea (SOE WHY ARE YOU SO DUMB STOP BEING A BAD PUBLISHER) is retarded. why would anybody release a f2p shooter when the new "big shooters" come out
It needs at least a month of fine tuning and play testing after they've finally added all the components and features.
Not rushing trying the cram them all in for release in 3 weeks time with absolutely no real testing. Hoping to fix everything after release.

I don't think it's a big problem, really. Halo 4? AC3? Hitman 5? That's it mostly. If this game was actually ready for November release, it wouldn't have problem competing with those, but I don't think it would be and that's the main problem. Even on its own, it could be a disaster.

You're underestimating the sheer force some of these nov. releases have.
Releasing under the shadow of Halo 4 is bad enough, but Blops 2 is coming like 7 days afterwards, not to mention the other releases you mentioned, finally added to the fact the game will likely not be release ready, the game will be buried as 'old news' fast.
The devs would be wise to delay release.
But they are mostly console centric though?
But they are mostly console centric though?
That doesn't really matter, I mean maybe it will to people with JUST a PC an no consoles whatsoever.
However that demographic is likely small.
I myself know ill be spending a shitload of time on halo 4 when it releases, despite being mainly a PC gamer.
But they are mostly console centric though?
That actually makes it worse.
Plus a new console is being released in November which adds to the problem.
I can't speak for anyone else but I'll be playing PS2 and codblops2. It's not like buying one will prevent me from spending money on the other. Halo is pretty fucking big though.

Good point. I didn't look at it at this angle.

Waitwaitwait, we're talking about Smedley here. His November is around January-March for regular folks like us.
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
Imagine what he's telling to shareholders.
"Yeah November is the release month."
*December* "We're trying real hard, it'll be ready asap."
*January "A few issues were holding us back, now we're really ready."
*February* "Almost laun... wait! Listen!"

Because deep down, the publisher likes to think their "shooter" IS the "big shooter"
Even if its blatantly not true. A game like planetside doesn't make millions on the first week of "release" even if SoE would like to think it does. It's a way for SoE to go "yeah, we're confident in our product", without realizing that you need more than confidence to ensure a long-term success on a project.
Planetside 2 isn't the type of game that "sells millions on release week", it's a game that develops a strong player base and interest over time, where it continues to be profitiable in the long term (like EvE Online) instead of needing to rely entirely on a blockbuster release to make 90% of the profits. Yet they are trying to treat it like a blockbuster release game, by releasing it in that window.
The last thing I want to see is this game fall on its face because of the rushing that is taking place to ready it for a November release. Why November, anyway? Why not wait until a lot of bugs are found and ironed out? Why not early 2013?
there seriously needs to be a petition or something. i say we should start one since i don't see anything on the forums
i mean seriously, PS2 already has its fans: the loyal players that will stick with it are the people that are in the beta RIGHT NOW. The majority of other people that don't have access are going to be the market that they're going to have to cater to now. I'm not going to stop playing it on nov 20 since I know what I'm in for, but what about the people that don't know what they're getting in to? They're going to pick it up and see an awful battlefield clone with a ton of bugs that plague every free to play shooter from asia. I thought we were better than this
The game has SO MUCH potential and a standby of a few months isn't going to hurt one bit. essentially SOE did the same exact thing to DC universe online when they made it F2P: their biggest problem isn't the gamebreaking bugs, horrible performance issues and game balancing but it's the simple fact that they are NOT ready to cater to the massive influx of new players. We, the beta players are the ones that are the control group. We're not really a control group when we've already made up our minds and decided to stay. The possible players that may buy station points are going to take one look at this, think of it as a pay2win fps and back right the hell out because that's practically what SOE are advertising it as.
the BIGGEST problem I am mentioning, though, is the absolute lack of support: SOE are completely underestimating the amount of new players that are going to come in when they open their doors. That's exactly why DC Universe Online failed right as soon as it F2P. there wasn't enough servers to support the massive amounts of players and what happened? Most of them got tired of waiting in a que, packed up their shit and left. That's exactly what is going to happen here too
their business model literally got fucked overnight and now they're going to ruin a perfectly good game
[editline]29th October 2012[/editline]
I have a sneaking suspicion that the higher-ups at Sony told SOE that they need to wrap up the PS2 project and start making income on it - without actually understanding how game development works.
that's exactly the problem, though. the developers want to see their game blossom and the publishers just want to see the game rolling in money. a few emails saying "WHYYY" isn't going to do shit. i'm pretty sure almost every PS2 player that's in the beta right now feels the same exact way as I do, honestly. PS2 is full of very intelligent people and that is why it is such a good game. It's socially refreshing to play: everyone is in it to team up and kick the everliving shit out of eachother in an organized fashion. You don't get that kind of vibe in any other game except maybe project reality in battlefield 2
PS2 has proven itself to have accumulated a smart fanbase and those are the kind of people who they SHOULD be keeping a grasp on. Those are the people who are willing to fork out 40 bucks for the alpha team package and will buy station points to up their ante on new characters. Those are the people who are literally going to throw their money at the game and say "GIVE ME THIS GUN AND CAMO RIGHT NOW" because I know that's what I'm going to be doing
Why would they ignore us? We're the paying/potential customer and we don't want to see the game fail, right?
It's possible a petition might work, but I doubt it. The people in control are businessmen: we'd have to convince them why waiting would earn more money in the long run, not just say that we feel that they are doing it wrong.

make artsy fartsy college student PR

that's precisely it. the main consumer that will be making transactions are the people that ALREADY have the beta because they're the most dedicated players
Does PS2 have an inbuilt screenshot system or do you need to run something like fraps?
