I'd love to try the new beta, but I'm currently doing calculations apparently calculating why I can bothered queuing for a videogame wait no I got in and it crashed font is nice though!!!
So i got the email from PlanetSide 2 team "You've been selected"
You have been selected to hit the front lines and participate in the PlanetSide 2 Beta! Where's the catch?
See, I think that's where my problem lies. I'm CPU limited, and everyone that I talk to with an AMD Phenom II X4 965 has had problems with framerates. One core is getting utilized fully, while the others sit at near idle all the time. I tried overclocking to little success, so there is little more I can do but wait for them to optimize more.
This CPU is having problems across the board? That would explain my disappointingly low fps. :v:

I will forever hate the users that took both ZestyLemons AND ZestyLemons101 as usernames. Cmon, who does that?
Is anyone else getting absolutely horrifying performance on Amerish? I put my settings on all low and I'm still getting really dodgy FPS in some parts, yet on the other continents I could run at all high and usually get a decent FPS.
I notice I'm getting like 30-40 fps on amerish. On max though.

This dead guy kept gliding around on his back, hacking our terminals while we watched helplessly. what is this sorcery
I will forever hate the users that took both ZestyLemons AND ZestyLemons101 as usernames. Cmon, who does that?
Someone else took the handle I've been using for a while, CowTippinSloth. WHO FUCKING ELSE THOUGHT OF THAT NAME
I'm actually liking the MSW-R now I have it fully upgraded. Although the lack of reflex sights is rather mean.
48 certs for any upgrade on a weapon is stupid no?
It depends how long you take to earn those 48 certs. For me personally it feels just about right. MMOs are inherently long term affairs. Not to mention you need to factor in that f2p games literally expect you to use the 50% exp boosters when they 'balance' things like this.
beta key, post if you take it please XPJA-PJE6-D6E2-RDKR-7K2C
How the fuck do people afford rockets on jets? It's so expensive. HOW
How the fuck do people afford rockets on jets? It's so expensive. HOW
A couple/few days playing.
beta key, post if you take it please XPJA-PJE6-D6E2-RDKR-7K2C
Taken, thank you kindly :)
Is it just me or, after the recent patch, do aircraft seem really sluggish now?
higby said in the pre-patch livestream that amerish may not be at the same performance level as Indar and Esamir as it hasn't been fully optimized yet.
I'm getting great performance on Amerish, save for the random stuttering when you're doing Mosquito tricks on some parts of the map, and the other continents also got a little better with the patch.
Just got my beta invite, anyone want to hold my hand for a few minutes and get me into the game proper?
After sitting and waiting for a beta invite for months now, I realized that I got into the beta in June, but never saw the e-mail. Anyways I got like four beta invites so here first come first serve: RGF9-AFK2-449Z-JR2M-K49T CZMK-MTC4-CCCP-TXTP-9KRT XETE-ADCE-ED4K-CCN6-NXX7 9ZH4-FP2T-FPE4-N3F6-RGN9
It's really starting to be apparent that while all the new conts are very pretty and have some interesting terrain, they are all rather boring simply because where you ACTUALLY fight (the bases) are all copy+pasted between all conts So the game ends up feeling like you essentially just play on 4-6 different "maps" of sorts (one for each base type) with the only big change being variations in the backgrounds, and the rare battle over terrain. I just don't feel like I should bother playing on Amerish or Esamir over Indar, since the general gameplay is exactly the same, except both Amerish and Esamir have less players than indar due to Indar having several different "biomes" on it that make it a little interesting, as well as it being the "default" map - so most of the player base is generally on indar. I mean, PS1 kind of had the same issue, but that game wasn't known for having really well-refined small-scale and moment-to-moment gameplay. It was the meta game, and how all the bases tied together that really made it fun. PS2 on the otherhand throws a much needed focus and refinement on the moment-to-moment gameplay... which means, having every Amp station being almost exactly like every amp station on every cont means the "fun" of playing somewhere completely new isn't all that fun... because you've already played the "Amp station map" to death already. Coupled with PS2 literally having almost none of the meta-game in yet, makes for a rather dull experience once you've played on all of the different base types. I remember seeing concept art with actual cities and stuff for example, that would be awesome. Instead of pre-fab bases dropped over a cont in an evenly spaced out manner I'd kill to have an amp station built into a skyscraper complex right next to some kind of strong hold terriotory that controls walls around a city or something. Hell you don't even have to do that - make an amp station in Amerish feel "cultured" to the terrain and continent that Amerish has over Indar, instead of using the exact same base layout and the exact same prefabs. You can even keep the whole, "capture one point, take out shield gens" gameplay style you get from Amp stations. Just dramatically change the "level design" of those stations between conts and such to keep things interesting, and to keep things from feeling... fake.
There is more base variation than in planetside 1 though, where it literally was a copy'n'paste job. [editline]4th November 2012[/editline] A urban map would be pretty awesome. Even if it was a lot smaller for ~hardware limitations~. Imagine the street to street fighting, some real stalingrad shit going on.
Yeah, in PS2 some bases even have different entry points/adjacent complexes/elevator pad locations. It's true that most bases/outposts look the same, but for smaller outposts like watchtowers it could be explained by how all structures are literally prefabs manufactured by NS, placed in strategic locations.
I think the reason behind the prefab bases is because of how the engine handles structures. Its similar to the ARMA engine because mapwise you can only edit terrain, you can't just build a house with the map editor like you can with Source. So instead you make structures objects and place them all on the map, so they will always end up looking the same. The benefits is that the terrain is MASSIVELY better and supports humongous maps.
Just because it's a terrain-based engine doesn't mean they can't create new buildings in 3D modelling software. There's plenty of slightly edited buildings in Amerish, like the Tech Plants with the elevators that go from ground level to the top directly.
So my friend bought the optical upgrade for the Liberator turret and hes only able to use the attachment when he purchases the liberator right?

Its a pretty big limitation. The general feel of bases will always be the same as long as they use the same prefabs. I remember on Esamir one of the bases had several underground tunnels that go under the walls, the base felt the same but there was new ways of getting in.
