Well now they will be "that class that has the sniper rifle and useless cloak"
cloak is still good for changing cover positions. it was just stupid with inf shotguns
I understand that infiltrators were too powerful, I just don't like that the infiltrator's optimal engagement range is being pushed further and further back. We'll have to see how it goes with scout rifles, but I just really want the infiltrator to be at least competent at close range. The sidearm is alright if you can get the drop on people, and believe me when I say that I've been in situations where it's saved my ass even in open combat against more powerful weapons, but that's more of a last resort. Couple that with the removal of almost every cloaking device except for two, only one of which is good for infiltration (Don't get me wrong, having nanites recharge 50% faster is a boon, no doubt, but it's hardly as game changing as the one that made you run significantly faster but also take way more damage.) Like I said, the infiltrator doesn't feel like an infiltrator at this stage. I've pretty much decided on playing mainly as an infiltrator, a decision that I felt was justified when I got my hands on a shotgun and could see how he'd be useful for base infiltration, the shotgun was just a tool that allowed me to move in on their equipment terminals and turrets safe in the knowledge that, if spotted, I would stand a chance in CQB. While the infiltrator doesn't have the verticality of the LA, he can still sneak into some places that'd be nigh on impossible for any other class to get to, making him a fairly valuable asset if he spends some time messing with their systems, but seeing as that is the case, an infiltrator rarely has any form of backup, so when spotted, you're at a significant disadvantage to any other class but an enemy infiltrator. I don't want the infiltrator to be a ghost with an instant death cannon, I don't want him to be able to take on an entire base on his own, but I want him to be able to put up a fight when spotted. And disregarding different graphical quality settings, his cloak is fairly easy to notice, especially with the incredibly loud cloaking/decloaking noises he emits. This is a bit of a pre-emptive rant, and I'll likely have to eat my own words when it turns out that the scout rifles turn you into Shiva.
Edit: And while this is so anecdotal that it probably isn't even worth bringing up, cloaked infiltrators can be seen at any range if you have keen eyes, I've been able to spot cloaked infiltrators sitting on ridges at long range due to their optical distortion. While there's combat going on, an infiltrator is practically invisible in the wash of bodies, particles and other miscellaneous combat clutter, but on his own, he sticks out like a sore thumb (again, I know this changes with graphical fidelity, but even on medium quality they're still fairly easy to see. Don't misinterpret this to mean that I think it should make you go 100% invisible, but with the pace of PS2's combat, moving from cover to cover and using cloak only to cross expanses where you have a background with a lot of detail to break up your silhouette is pretty much impossible.) If they're going to have it so the infiltrator is at a disadvantage in combat, at least make him powerful in some other aspect. The IFF tool is a nice little toy, but it has such limited range (Upgradeable through certs, I know). And as far as I can tell, the EMP grenade will only be able to disrupt enemy infantry shields, which means you're trading away a grenade that is lethal at close range with one that only disrupts shields. Again, I can only share my opinion on it based on current facts and a lot of these things might change in post-launch patches but at the moment I am not too pleased about the direction they're taking the infiltrator in. I guess what it all boils down to is that I expected too much from the infiltrator, I really want him to play as a saboteur, not a marksman.
Got into beta and I have a question, on the map what are the numbers inside different color circles represent?
Percentages of population on each continent, e.g. 40% of people playing on Indar at the time are VS, 35% are NC and 25% are TR
Does anyone find that aiming is not as fluid as it is in games like counter strike? I have a hard time with precision aiming.
Totally agree and I dont know why. My guess its because the movement of players is too jerky/quick/stop-and-go making it hard to actually land precise hits. Or something. All I know is that its a lot harder to use a sniper and actually land headshots in ps2 than in a game like BF3 or CS

They're people in your platoon. Each colour is a squad and the number is that persons place in the squad out of 12.

Thats at the warpgate screen. And its not population, it's territory controlled last I remembered.
If you are just opening the map and looking at different territories it determines influence. AKA how many hexes are surrounding that hex. So if a hex has 50% vanu influence, then 50% of territory that hex is connected to belongs to vanu, which in turn gives the vanu a 50% boost (roughly) in capture times.
So, after seeing how hill climbing affects the ability to climb hills so drastically, I'm wondering if the values shown are misleading. I can climb a much steeper hill at level 2 of it.
Okay I gotta get this off my chest
I am sick and tired of fucking awful lib gunners
One guy gunning, too fucking stupid to switch to the rear gunner to take out trailing esf's on our ass.
Other time, I get a full crew and they shoot at fuck all except the occasional tree, resulting in a quick death. fuck it

I really wish the nose or tail gunning position had a much greater range of motion. Right now it feels so damn limited, I feel like I have to tell the pilot to move all over the damn place so I can hit one guy below us.
Flying the liberator just isn't fun at all right now. 3 person vehicle has to get out as soon as it starts getting shot at.

Action fluidity is non-existant in this game.
Dont want to get sniped? Jump a few times or run in a slightly diagonal fashion.
I mean it's difficult to land a shot on a jumping person in a normal game, but in a game like this, where the actions are so rigid, it's nearly impossible.

Probably due to the netcode and the fact aiming is pretty laggy.

The shooting is absolutely terrible, especially with performance issues, giving Inf a fully automatic weapon was inevitable when precision weapons can't hit anything.

As it stands, the tail gun can't really kill any jets fighting you. Unless they fly in a straight line and you do too, even the walker has a hard time hitting, or doing damage if it does hit. That said, a stream of bullets from a walker can kill a jet, but it's night impossible to land enough hits in time to not die.
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
Oh, and liberators are really better when only two people fly, I feel. You don't need a tail gunner most of the time, and with only two people you can have the pilot swap seats to be a gunner, and the plane falls at a super high speed, which is useful.
My friend and I had an interesting idea today. We almost had it working until that douchebag fighter came along.

to move forward you have to accelerate as the gal does
so... did the patch come out or what?
It's probably coming out Monday then, since smedley mentioned something about servers never shutting down on that day?

Is there any way to invert mouse in aircrafts? I just can't fly well because of it's controls
Is there any way to invert mouse in aircrafts? I just can't fly well because of it's controls
Yes.
Yes.
The only way I know is to invert the mouse on everything incluiding all vehicles and infantry and that wouldn't help
The only way I know is to invert the mouse on everything i,cluiding all vehicles and infantry and that wouldn't help
There's one for aircraft only, forgot where but I have it turned on.
Argh wheres this patch that was supposed to be going up this week with the meta game changes :(
toldchu guys.
It'll come late with 1/3 the features missing and another 1/3 broken.
Rather like this game on release day.
It comes out in a few days and they still haven't fixed the godawful performance.
10 days.
But smed said this patch will have a lot of fixes. But he's been saying that for every patch.
You obviously forgotten the time where it was normal to crash every 30 minutes and have UI causing mem leaks.
It's one thing they have actually improved though, was the overall client stability and netcode.
Does anyone else's game stutter a lot?
