100 smedcash = ~$1
I think I remember reading that the cheapest stuff would be 50sc, but I could be wrong
either way, it doesn't buy much

When does the game releases exactly?
When does the game releases exactly?
In about half a day.

My birthday's tomorrow (20th)
cert gain is slow as balls so I'm probably going to just buy the weapons from the beginning
What? They reverted it back to 1 per 250xp.
Cert gain is fine, but getting up to 500/1000 certs will take about a month and that's pretty crazy. For everything else the cert rate is great.

cert rate is 250xp = 1
128xp = 1 if you get one of the +50% boosters for a 500 smedbucks.

lets say you're trying to buy that one shotgun that I don't remember the name of
the one that's like 760 certs
that's like 190000 XP
just to make the math easy, if you're getting 5000 XP per hour (and trust me you're not), it'll take 38 hours of constant gameplay to get it
now lets just throw some real life into the equation. You go to work for eight hours a day (unless you're a NEET in which case god help you), you sleep for eight hours a day. You spend about 2 hours eating and another hour doing whatever it is you do in the bathroom. That leaves you 5 hours of total possible play time during the day
Now lets also assume you're not a total fucking loser and like to spend some time socializing each day. That can be face to face conversation, checking facebook, talking on the phone, or hunching over your keyboard enjoying a lovely conversation with one of those free cam girls. Lets say you do this for 3 hours
You're now down an hour or two of play time each day. At that rate, it takes over a month of daily play time to unlock that precious shotgun
Now I don't know about you, but I'm not getting 5000 XP per hour. My play style nets me more like 1500. Now we're up to 126 hours of constant play time. At the rate I play, that's something like 3-4 straight months of grinding. I don't like grinding, and you shouldn't either.

Err... I usually maintain about 7k per hour over about 4 hours per session.
I'm not arguing with the fact it's going to take ages to get a high end weapon with certs, but I think what you meant to say was "Weapons are too expensive", not "Cert gain is too slow".
especially since you have to be diligently saving up for the shotty the entire time and can't get small things to tide you over like attachments and upgrades
...I think what you meant to say was "Weapons are too expensive", not "Cert gain is too slow".
different means to a same end. I say give the player more certs, you say make them need less
[editline]20th November 2012[/editline]
and what I mean is "everything is too expensive"
Nobody will make weapons cheaper or raise the certification gain because that would make you not having to buy gold, which is the whole point of a F2P game.

Didn't use to be. Used to be the point was making you buy cosmetics.

It's more lucrative for players to buy the actual guns.
have to work on an essay tomorrow and the next day, worst timing. Oh well, my account is ready and loaded with smedbux.
Got 6000 cash from the triple station cash thing for 17 euros, I am set for launch :v:
Fuck you Planetside 2. I'm all pumped, it's 11/20 in everywhere except Hawaii. WHY ARE YOU MAKING US WAIT MORE. Let me at least preload it on Steam. ;-;
I have a feeling that the steam version will be bullshit, like it just launches the same sort of "launcher/updater" program.
Wouldn't be the first time.
Yeah, but Steam will still log my hours and I'd prefer that and official steam support over a shortcut.

You mean like most F2P games?
I don't know what you ere expecting, but this is exactly what I was expecting. And I don't really see what's too bullshit about it.
I mean the fact that you can't pre-load already almost guarantees it, but I don't see the problem with it.

I'm sorry but 5000 exp per hour is the definition of mediocre.
I get 10k exp per hour average. 8k if things are a little slow, and I am no means super human, I normally avoid FPS games because I'm generally shit at them.
This is without bonus. Imagine if I had the alpha pack, 6months sub and a booster. It'll be over doubled. So we're looking at 88 certs per hour or 8.6 hours to unlock 760 certs, not 38.
Its a long time to grind for a shotgun.
I think its right. I don't want ~maxed out~ characters within 2 weeks.
PS1 was no different. At higher BRs it could take days to get a single cert point.

On a slightly related note, did they fix the passive gain in the last patch?
