I was there for that, we capped it with almost 0 resistance.
It was spooky.
So how do you capture points?

For better FPS, one of the best things to do is edit the RenderDistance in the UserOptions.inifile(Steam\steamapps\common\PlanetSide 2). Change it from -1 to 1000 or less. -1 is unlimited rendering distance so it just constantly renders as much as it can. I find 800 is a nice distance, hell if you're close quarters go even less the that.
CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
I just had a fight with so many people in it that you could not see enemies 5 feet from you. You could literally walk a foot and five TR would pop up. Tumas on Mattherson was insane.

Any Tec Plant battles on Mattherson take forever. We were fighting for the same one for like 45 minutes.
i just had people spawning so fast on my sunderer that some would actually spawn dead and i'd get "credit" for the teamkill
had to undeploy before i got weapon locked good lord what a terrible system
how 2 deploy sunderer?
What the fuck happened to region chat anyway?

What do you mean? I think you still use /reg to chat in it.

Repost for new page, people should try this.
Dumb fire ones are 1000, but you definitely dont need them to "fly at all". Default machine gun or anti light armor chain gun are quite good. And you dont just fly around with no second weapon until you unlock pods, you fly with external afterburner fuel.
Wait so if you have no rocket pods, you have extended afterburner, even though extended afterburner is already a thing you can cert into? Does that mean you can't use afterburner certs at the same time as rockets?
So it was a slow night for me, decided I would kick back and pilot a galaxy for a bit.
I'm ferrying people to and fro, nothing too extreme, the odd reaver here or there to get my gunners to deal with but nothing too bothersome. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting a full galaxy in any reasonable amount of time at the Warp Gate, so I was a bit disappointed only transporting 5 or 6 people at a time.
When I do manage to get a full galaxy, we flew over a base that was getting capped, so I told them to go deal with it and I'd be on the ground when they were done. I was happy, had a nice little team capping points for me, and a couple fellow engineers on the turrets to help me out and repair. It was a galaxy pilots ideal thing.
But then this smug motherfucker in a liberator decides to ruin my little squads day and bomb the living hell out of them with his dalton. He blew them all to bits before I could get to them. At this point, I let out a loud fuck you, got up in the air and rammed the bastard as fast as I could and pinned him against the techplant wall, after a second he blew up, granting me a couple kills, but taking me out of the air as well. But I felt happy knowing that I had just run down a gunship that had at least 1000+ certs put into it with my fat ass, no certs sky whale.

It hasn't been working all day.
So how do you capture points?
you just stand by them. Getting to standing by them can involve a mess of sheild generators you need to down first, though. and once its capped, the territory influence needs to tick up/down
I'm confused as fuck over the Heavy Assault's shields looking at certs.
Suit Modifications:
Advanced Shield Capacitor - Damaged and depleted personal shields recharge faster
Abilities:
Nanite Mesh Generator - Increases NMG capacitor regen
Resist Shield - Increases duration of resist shield
I get the suit's personal shield, the one that depletes before you take damage, and the resist shield is the one that activates when you press F. So what the fuck is the NMG (already put certs into)?
Is there any way to move my Planetside 2 that I installed without steam to steamapps and have steam just check it or something?
Sorry if anyone already asked this

I think it's a different F ability. Try hovering over the first rank of both of them

Actually not quite, hover over them they tell you what they do
Nanite Mesh Generator is the default shield ability you get with HA when you press F. It stops all damage, but each shot takes a chunk out of the HA shield. It's basically a second shield that you must manually engage. All HA's come with this - certing into it just increases the rate it takes for this special shield to recharge
Resist shield replaces your NMG with a different type of manual shield. It looks/works very much the same but instead of stopping all damage, it only reduces incoming damage. The upside is, that the sheild lasts a lot longer because resist shield doesn't lose charge when shot at - so in effect, the default NMG shield probably does better against high damage hits since it'll basically save you from taking tons of damage in one quick blow, but the resist shield would likely work better in sustained engagements since it just reduces damage, but stays active for much longer.
I'm getting a GTX 650 ti graphics card for christmas. Could I run this game with it on medium?

ps2 is more cpu intensive than it is gpu.

My friend who's really good with computers says I might be good with that. He says my CPU is at least a dual core.
Have no idea if that's good or bad but he said it was and since he's my only source for complicated computer stuff I believe him.
So how long does it take to unlock a new weapon, say for a vehicle.
In the beta it took forever to get enough to unlock anything, maybe 16-24 hours of gameplay or so for a2g missles. I swear if its the same way I consider this game pay 2 win/grind 2 win, considering anything you wanted to unlock was a direct upgrade to the basic stuff.
Just make sure your view distance is at medium-low and you'll be fine.
Also try not going into places where there are 200~ ppl fighting in one location.
How do certs work? Are they permanent unlocks, or temporary? Like, if I buy a tank and unlock a new turret, side turret, and defensive upgrades and whatnot, are they all lost when that tank is destroyed, or can they be reused?

Stuff bought with certs is permanent.

Considering its F2P, not that long. If you buy a boost or a subscription ($15/mo), then its even less.
The cert rate is 250XP = 1 Cert. The most expensive weapons in the game cost 1000 Certs to get.
If you play actively, you can easily net 20~ certs per hour of play (100 XP for each kill, 1000xp for a facility capture, plus all the assists, etc etc). If you play partiuclarly good, 30-40 is certainly possible depending on what you are doing. You also get up to 16-ish certs offline per day, though you need to log in at least once every 24 hours to still get offline certs.
This means a night of playing for a couple of hours or so can earn you about 116 certs, which is enough for cheap weapons and about 8-ish days off from a top end weapon.
But even then, 99% of the weapons in the game aren't direct upgrades. If you want the sweet ass sniper-tank upgrade, you basically destroy your ability to do any damage to infantry. If you want the sweet ass shotgun, it's good at doing what shotguns do - excellent in close quarters 1-on-1, bad at supressing, terrible at anything beyond close quarters.
There are only 3 things I would consider upgrades in the store. Aircraft missles (since they literally add missles on top of your default weapons), 2nd MAX weapons you have by default (since they literally let you duel wield an already good gun), and the HA's missle launcher (since you can shoot their missile launchers without a lock for some really strange reason, which basically makes them work exactly the same... with optional missile lock).

so what you are saying is, 50 hours of gameplay for a single weapon, or I buy it with $$?
I don't know about that man, that sounds pretty pay 2 win
