What is the fastes way to get certs?
Go liberating with a zephyr and a good pilot.
My gunner got 150 certs in 2 hours of me flying him around
[sp]I got 70 for flying[/sp]
I was part of the NC platoon that took Esamir on Mattherson not that long ago. We literally took half the cont in 15 minutes, finishing up NC ownership of the place just before the server went down. Was brilliant.

LA-80 rifle of the year all years.
Works great with a 10x scope and a tower under seige.
until they up the view distance i'm not going to bother flying any vehicles. you're forced to fly way too low to the ground to see any enemy ground vehicles, and you're forced to blindly go into enemy territory not knowing if there's 1-2 aircrafts flying around, or 30-40 until it's too late to turn back. it's fucking stupid. if my rig has the ability to run at 60fps with massive view distance, LET ME.
a majority of my deaths when flying a mosquito are because i go into an area assuming there's only a few aircrafts then it turns out there's 10 and i just get swarmed before i can do anything. it's moronic, i don't understand why they didn't think of this in their extensively-useless beta testing
EDIT: Infantry draw distance is even worse, too. I literally have to be 50m above infantry in my mosquito till i can see them, and by that time i have 3 of them locking on to me with AA rockets.
this is p exaggerated. the draw distance can be shitty when you're coming down from high up but otherwise i've never been caught in the middle of a swarm of fighters. And just the other day I was hovering probably over a forward base covered in infantry which were not much more than dots and killing a bunch of them with a stock scythe.
Every day it's the same. Log in cap a couple bases gain some certs which is just addicting. Then log out. If I had some good battles then cool, but I don't have much to show for it besides certs.
And really this game is just so simple. It's just point-n-shoot, spot, point-n-shoot, cap that objective, move on to next base, oh no we've lost territory we've been cut off. Rinse and repeat. Gun play is basic and all the unlocks just aren't worth saving for. They are just slight variants of the same gun with different stats and a slightly different artwork. Just really shallow stuff all-round.
Battles are rarely well balanced and much fun. You're either steamrolling over the enemy or they are steamrolling over you. Sometimes you get an even fight which is the most fun I've had in the game, but those times are quite rare. Also joining an Outfit doesn't improve your chances much. If the enemy have more numbers any kind of organization is thwarted by the endless waves of tanks and air spam.
Maybe I'm just growing tired of FPS games. I think I need to go back to an RPG for a while where I might need to actually use my brain and be compelled by a story or some deep leveling system. I'm getting a headache just by thinking about how much time I've wasted on this dull game.
Planetside 1 was exactly the same. Planetside 1's gameplay wasn't particularly innovative either. In fact, its shooting mechanics were terrible. The game's real draw was that you could be part of something bigger than yourself.
My suggestion: look on the forums/in-game and join an outfit that actually uses comms and does ops. You will see what it is about this game everyone loves, trust me: I've been hooked since the PS1 beta years ago.

I am also "FlakAttack" on mattherson. I roll with The Ascended outfit (TAS) but they have a pretty open doors policy with their platoons, as long as you're willing to stick together and follow orders. I generally have the AMS/Ammo sundy backing them up, but I sometimes do Reaver and Vanguard runs too. I'll add you Birdman, and you too Blanketspace if you want.
I tend to switch class depending on the situation. Tons of enemy aircraft? Switch to AA MAX. Friendlies going down? Switch to medic. Team making an armoured push? Switch to Engineer.
Which is fine, but I don't see how the class changing system is as 'fucked' as that other guy said it was.
I can't think of any game that just lets you change your class instantly without any repercussion, because such a system would be stupid as hell and imbalanced (think of some infiltrator you're shooting at running around the corner and coming back as a HA or MAX). Not COD, Not battlefield, not anything in my experience.
You can adapt perfectly fine with current class switching system given the availability of sunderers or how often you die, I mean if you're particularly impatient you can just redeploy and do it that way as well.

uh it's an FPS dude, you shoot other guys and blow stuff up it isn't really meant to be a deep involved kind of deal because it has to appeal to a ton of people so the game can have those huge battles. For what the game is the gameplay is great imo.
this post is oozing with personal issues, what with the "I need a big sense of accomplishment from my video games" and "this game doesn't satisfy my massive cranium" i think you're expecting a little much here

I hang with the 17th
they're pretty non-serious, but we still hang out in TS and do vehicle rushes and galaxy drops.

Planetside 1 provided these things so I don't see your point. PS2 is a standard FPS I don't think anyone can deny that. I just find it disappointing how during development they got more inspiration from Battlefield instead of from PS1 which I would consider a classic and unique MMOFPS. Instead of feeling confident in the franchises community and confident about their own product they just emulated someone elses. PS2 is just a generic FPS. It's just a shooter that tries to impress you with it's explosions and epic size. And it does impress, but only for a little while.
Am I wrong to have expected a little more than that? It's PLANETSIDE for gods sake. Now it's almost indistinguishable from other FPS titles, it's hardly its own thing anymore. Just another shooter to pick up, play for a couple weeks/months, then forget about it entirely. I played Planetside almost 10 years ago and I'm still waiting for a game to fill the void where it once was. I guess I was hoping that game would be Planetside 2.
There is no void where Planetside once was. Planetside is still there.

So you're essentially writing it off, even though a chunk of the devs themselves have said it isn't done yet, and the whole point of an mmo is that it changes and grows over time. Hopefully they will bring back more intricate hacking and base capturing mechanics and additional weapons and vehicles, but until then it is still quite a fun game and still offers a effective and easy to learn method of organizing large quantities of players. And that, in my mind is one of Planetside 2's defining properties.
Also, I totally disagree with you about the balance of battles. I've found that superior organization has always and consistently beaten larger numbers. The number of platoons I've been in that have held off massive zergs on towers or facilities is beyond counting. Hell, even a well organized squad can do significant damage against large numbers of tanks and whatnot.
I also played Planetside way back when and I can tell you the exact same shit happened back then as it does now, so take off your rose colored classes and get back into reality. In fact, it was even worse given the tight corridors of the basement facilities and whatnot where that's literally ALL the attackers needed to do, just rush in with the most bodies and overrun the other side.

Your not alone, when PS1 get free then ill hardly play ps2 now untill they actually complete the game developement.
Everyone hates on TR. Only reason I'm them is because they have the best music.

Can't we just all agree that NC is the real enemy?

Illegal arms dealing, conspiring to start wars, bribery, state as rogue corporation, forgery and fraud.
Nanite Systems for #1 most wanted terrorist cell 2860AD.
We all know that the VS just left the TR because they didn't allow gay marriage.
NC left for completely valid reasons of FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, AND BIG GUNS
140 certs in one hour.
Not bad.

So they are republicans?

I hate you.
The more I play this game the more unplayable it gets
People are getting unlocks and the ones with good FPS just COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY ASSRAPE all the other players
Don't even get me started on the TR rocket fighter plane swarms taking down an entire army all by themselves
[editline]26th November 2012[/editline]
The fact that my quad core started screaming at me also gives me a sign to wait for optimization updates
I just edited the config file and now I have a decent framerate.
I just edited the config file and now I have a decent framerate.
What did you change?
Can't wait to finally try out this game after the release.
Been busy with Hitman all last week, only need to clear the last mission now.

Same. I found that editing the view distance (800 or 1000) in addition to

RenderFlora=Off
helped significantly. I need 45+ fps to feel comfortable in crazy combat.

Holy shit, as a tip to everyone who never defrags their hard drive, I found out mine has become 40% fragmented over the years
I'm going to have to let defraggler run for a day straight in order to get it all back into place, that's over 90 gigs of wasted space that needs to be added back in
