Yes its really, really good in the right situations
But its an AoE weapon, you pretty much need to hit either the wall or the floor that your target is at in order to be effective with it at all. Shooting people on a roof with it is much harder than the default gun. It's also arguably easier to deal with crowds using the machine guns, since the laser only shoots one bolt every few seconds, which means you must be accurate with your shots to be effective.
Of course against tanks its really nice, basically a second gun. And it's still really good against infantry assuming you can hit them properly and leverage the AoE to work in your favor. So there's no doubt a gun thats really, really good against tanks while being really really good against infantry in specific situations needs some balancing.
All they would need to do is either remove AoE (so it literally is like a tank sniper), or something else like that.
Well i dumped some settings and found out my rsbot eats some frames, Now i can get steady 20-30 frames in battle taking dips that can literally kill me in battle but i'm doing much better.

Remove spawn points, decrease spawn times, make people only able to spawn on the continent HQ, force people to use Galaxies, Sunderes to get to places.
Would be interesting to have a continent like that.

when you're in the store, find a weapon and click "unlock now" then on the bottom of that screen (when it asks you to unlock with certs or SC) there's one which says "trial" you can only do it once every 8 hours, account wide apparently.
I just want to somehow find 11 like minded individuals to go stomp around capping places. I'm a TR on cobalt and for some reason the continent that isn't Esamir or Indar (I can't remember it's name) is almost completely devoid of people. There's one off fire fights with people but not much happens and it'd be good to have a squad to just capture the map faster.
when i logged into esamir earlier this afternoon literally both other factions were at TR's warpgate. like 1 hour later we are at NC's wargate and own 75% of the map.

such is the way of planetside. on the flip side, i was playing earlier today and it was a 3 way battle between all factions to capture a major TR base. i logged off after playing for an hour just assaulting that base, came back like 3 hours later, and the battle was STILL raging on that single base. it seemed like 90% of all 3 factions were on that base. it was awesome
Upgrading the Lightning's gun from the C75 to L100 HEAT makes a huge difference. The shell drop off is actually manageable now!
Also, I've had some really crappy flyboys try to kill me today. They'll literally hover right in front of my gun and start firing, not even trying to make strafing runs, just sitting there in front of me and trying to pound me with their guns.
Then they get a HEAT shell to the face and run like hell.

Getting about 5200 to 6000 score per hour. Not seeing anywhere near the points being scored by some people here (except when I gun a Liberator for a while but then that shouldn't surprise anyone).
As for AA... the amount of resources you must invest to get the skyguard turret, and then buy a lightning, just to have the thing be fucking useless... I wish I could get a refund.
AA invests a lot of resources just to be able to do its job. Whether it's HA AA launcher (700 SC), Skyguard (also 700SC), or burster (not sure) the cost is quite high. For Skyguard and Burster, there is also the resource cost. Then there is the fact that you are dedicated to a single role and your gun is terrible at everything else. Opportunity cost + added risk.
And despite all of this, your guns are still worthless against air targets. I prefer to just shoot at ESFs with the HA MG, it actually hits them (and doesn't cost anything). The launcher's missiles are too slow for anything but reavers, and skyguard projectiles are WAY too slow. Holy shit if the guy is over 100m away he could fly right at you and you'd still have a hard time hitting him.

Basically the default is pretty much perfect cause the a2g gun is rather shitty since you should have rocket pods which are just flat out superior to it. This might just might be a personal thing but when I used to a2a gun in the beta it did a lot less to damage pretty much everything besides fighters while doing the normal damage of the default gun while shooting hella fast like I mean all 50 rounds were gone in a second but I could for whatever reason never land at least 1/4 of the shots on a fighter. I am however god awful at the fighters so maybe disregard all of this because of that and I only used the cannons in the beta but all in all it seems like the default cannon is still the best

whether or not you can max it has nothing to do with your rig, its more to do with the alignment of the planets.

i have yet to actually be gunner in a liberator where the pilot wasn't just on a suicide mission and tried to shoot down every thing that came his way. but 6000 SPH isn't bad by any means, depending on what i'm doing really it could be as low as 5000 if i'm just runnin around as infantry fucking about and repairing here and there, or as high as 15,000 if i'm doing heavy base assault stuff. all adds up really

i got fortunate with me GTX 670 and i5-3570, seems to be the perfect set up for the game. seen a couple people with the same set up who said it runs perfectly on max. only problem is the draw distance for vehicles and players as usual but that's server side
I guess its my GTX260 thats holding me back because I got an i5 and I still get 30ish fps on lowest settings in bases.
