Breencast monitors being too bright is because of the lighting reflecting off of them. They change brightness depending on where you're at in the game due to the light coming from the world around them. :eng101:

Did this kill DirectX 7 mode?
Dxlevel 81 still works for me but I'm not sure if DX7 is even compatible with the Orange Box engine.
It's about fucking time that this happened. Though it does contradict that one interview from a few years ago where someone from Valve said that the Xbox 360 versions of HL2 and HL2EP1 were upgraded as a bonus for 360 users and that the PC version would never be updated to look like that to keep it that way. :v:
But at least now I'll never have to fire up the 360 to go play HL2 in pretty mode. Thanks, Valve! Now port Half-Life: Source to the Orange Box Engine just to complete the big circle of Source games being on Orange Box. :buddy:
They've used the new, slightly oily and slimy vort textures too.

But the orange box contains half 2 and episodes, TF2, portal, and Lost Coast.
