I would go for utility if I were you.
You get to cast more spells more frequently from the mana regen whilst getting earlier levels, but if you get archaic knowledge you do more damage from the few times you cast your spells, but you might miss and that would be lost mana that takes long to regenerate (since you didn't get mana regeneration).

yeah i could probably make up for the lack of magic pen with haunting guise, void staff and/or abyssal scepter if i really needed magic pen
most low levels never buy magic resist which is pretty sweet for me

Seriously, he isn't even that item dependent.
All you need is:
-Sword of the Divine
-Yommuu's Ghostblade
-Boots of any kind
-Vampiric Scepter (yes it's cheap, if you are richer get Executioner's Calling)
Which is a ridiculously cheap build in terms of money, but you can take down ANYTHING.
For example, in one 5v5 match, I managed to pull off an amazing stunt.
I was being chased down by level 15 Teemo, while I was level 14.
I had around 1.5 bars of hp left (around 150?) and he was full.
I Audacious Charged him and then Talon Striked, and then Activated items, then used W and then used Talon Strike again.
I killed him and now had 3 bars of hp, around 300 hp.

I'm not high enough to play ranked yet, but you could always play with me in normal :3:. I'm also US, but am on a hell of a lot (Especially since next week is Spring Break). I don't feed and like to play with non random people.
