I always hated Gamespy and i hated how every game asked me to install it.
No one bought Battlefield 1943 on the PC because they didn't release it for the PC. :downs:
Rome: Total War still uses it. I also remember the first time I played any FPS online ever was Soldier of Fortune, on Gamespy, for a total of 2 minutes, maybe. I just played it for the gore. I never even got out of level 3.
In this day and age, not using steam+steamworks is unacceptable imo
I thought it was a virus when halo 1 first came out
I used it back in its heyday and it was awful. never again. I think sites like this exist because they probably make money from advertising from all the old forum threads which probably link to it :p
I remember every game asking if you wanted to install the gamespy arcade
And I remember screaming NO every time.
gamespy was an annoying fucking waste of time
gamespy was an annoying fucking waste of time
It still is.
Why the fuck did MSN Zone die and Gamespy survive? Age of Empires 2 oh yeah baby. I can remember dialing up and waiting 5 minutes for MSN Zone to connect and then playing Age of Empires 2 online.
msn zone was horrible too don't even get me started on that

Command and conquer: Renegade is one of the few games where I used it.
And Gamespot Comrade too. Man fuck that program.
oh god MSN zone I used to play star wars: galactic battlegrounds multiplayer using that and oh god it was awesome
I loved MSN zone :frown:
Men of War and Men of War: Assault Squad multiplayer require a gamespy account
installing game YOU WANT TO INSTALL GAMESPY ARCADE/COMRADE?
The only reason that uses Gamespy is because Gearbox's spokesperson hates Steam.
why doesn't it use some proper fucking master servers then instead of fucking gamespy
I loved Gamespy back in the Operation Flashpoint days. Now i don't really care about it at all, i'm fine with it around.
I was pissed when they renamed it from QuakeSpy.
I remember browsing Quake 2 servers with it. Good times.
msn zone was horrible too don't even get me started on that
I actually liked the MSN Gaming Zone back in its day... You didn't get advertisements thrown in your face between each fucking click like Gamespy... you got a nice chatroom with lots of gamerooms that opened up into basically a pre-game lobby... I Used it extensively with Flight Sim, Combat Flight Sim, and Quake way back It was a pretty sad day to see the Flight Sim support get removed Gamespy was good for OFP, and Rogue Spear, but I chose MPlayer over Gamespy for that because it was just SO much less annoying
I wonder why Punkbuster is still around too. If Battlefield 3 has it I'll be pissed.
Punkbuster is great. Bans most hackers within a few minutes, while VAC bans them 2 weeks later
I've never seen Punkbuster ban a CHEATER let's get one thing straight. Someone who downloads a program and runs it and cheats is not a hacker. But I have seen thousands of complaints of regular players getting kicked, and seen those players get kicked, constantly because of Punkbuster being stupid. Hell I'm one of them and I actually know how to keep Punkbuster happy, but it's still a pain in the ass Punkbuster has ONE feature that I like, and that's the ability for a server admin to take a screenshot of what the cheater sees, as if the cheater hit Print Screen himself. And that right there should be all the Anti-Cheat we need. Give control to the server owners, let them take care of it. Relying on such a hit and miss program to police your server is just stupid, IMO. And how many server owners would actually choose to have Punkbuster if it was an optional feature? The fact that it's forced is just.... It's ridiculous really. So there's my solution. No need for shitty updates or being kicked for not having the latest version or because PB has PMS. Punkbuster only needs to be server side, allow the screenshots.... and incorporate Hardware Bans! Fuck Yeah. But all at the hands of the admins
oh god MSN zone I used to play star wars: galactic battlegrounds multiplayer using that and oh god it was awesome
I love this game, we have lan parties with it.
The old BF games used it and many people still play them.
Punkbuster is great. Bans most hackers within a few minutes, while VAC bans them 2 weeks later
you have it the other way around
The old BF games used it and many people still play them.
Because they were still good games.
