I remember this, back in the day. 7-8 years ago, when I first starting using steam. hell yeah.
Gamespyware
Anyone remember having to use Gamespy as a server browser? :argh:
Gamespy is cool, you can find old games with it, I remember joining a game of baulders gate through it. It works well as a master server for old games without a working one.
I think it's better than EA Download Manager and Game for windows live. They have always felt slow and evil especially EADM. It took me quite some time to uninstall it after installing crysis wars from it (got it for free there because of the cd-key troubles steam had).
I also remember how many times I saw the gamespy thingie and clicking no since I downloaded all my games when I was younger.
I only ever used it to find servers for Stronghold: Crusaders.
damn I remember using it for the Battlefield 1942 mod that made it modern desert warfare. Can't remember what it's name was, but damn it was so awesome.
Good times.

DESERT COMBAT. Oh man, that was so awesome

FUCK YEAH
Gamespy is hardly used, and its outdated.
People use Steam, Xbox Live, XFire, Playstation Network, Desura and things like that.
Last time I remember Gamespy was in 2002 when Elite Force 2 came out.
That 9 years ago. It's old. Why is it still around!?!?
I cannot wrap my head around hosting servers. Gamespy makes that easy. Outside of that it is bollocks, yes.
Pretty sure C&C Red Alert 3 uses it.
Failed connection error 1-2 erreday
I remember playing Rouge Spear with it showing up.
The last time I used gamespy was for battlefield 1942, back in the day of playing online with dialup.
i don't ever remember having too many problems with gamespy years and years ago
time hasn't been good to it
OH god gamespy, remember playing AoE (the first) with it.
i wonder why punkbuster is still around too.
If battlefield 3 has it i'll be pissed.
steam detected- kicking player
I actually liked the MSN Gaming Zone back in its day... You didn't get advertisements thrown in your face between each fucking click like Gamespy... you got a nice chatroom with lots of gamerooms that opened up into basically a pre-game lobby... I Used it extensively with Flight Sim, Combat Flight Sim, and Quake way back
It was a pretty sad day to see the Flight Sim support get removed
Gamespy was good for OFP, and Rogue Spear, but I chose MPlayer over Gamespy for that because it was just SO much less annoying
Microsoft Ants, was like my favorite RTS like game back in the day.
I have all kinds of NAT related problems with Gamespy and ONLY Gamespy. It means I can only join 1/20 servers in games that use it.
Gamespy is cool, you can find old games with it, I remember joining a game of baulders gate through it. It works well as a master server for old games without a working one.
It's a master server for quite a few classic old games, like Unreal 1, UT and others.
I remember using Gamespy Arcade way before Steam or Xfire existed.
It was awesome. A place where I could get news about games and see the server browser of various games without having to go into the game itself.
I agree though, with the creation of Xfire and Steam, Gamespy Arcade is pretty much useless now.
msn zone was horrible too don't even get me started on that
It might have been horrible but it was the only way to play various awesome Microsoft games online.
Which is why it sucked massive balls when they turned it off.
I had so much fun playing multiplayer Midtown Madness 2.
On the other hand, good ol' times with The All Seeing Eye.. Haven't used it in a loong time, is it still used a lot?
punkbuster is just as bad
i used steam with BFBC2
YOU ARE USING A REMOTE HACK
YOU HAVE BEEN KICKED FROM THE GAME
HAVE A NICE DAY.
woah i remember using that, but I have no idea what games i used it for.
GameSpy is still going because it's a part of IGN, owned by News Corp.
I think that's all I need to say.
WAIT.
Gamespy is owned by the owners of Fox News???
Gentlemen.
Gamespy boycott.
Uh, wut
Gamespy is owned by the owners of Fox News?
Well no fucking wonder I had all sorts of problems with it - it thinks I'm Muslim.
I wonder why Punkbuster is still around too.
If Battlefield 3 has it I'll be pissed.
Punkbuster actualy gets updated and changed, it still kind of works compared to gamespy.
That is why it is still around

If I update a large pile of shit by shitting out more shit onto the shit pile, and move around the shit a little, it's still shit
Aliens vs Predator 2 Had Gamespy work with the servers if that count?
I only used it to play Medal of Honour and Armada 2.
I only used it to play Medal of Honour and Armada 2.
Ah, Armada. It's sitting on my desk, above my head.
I still play it.
I hate gamespy.
