I dont know about EVE online, I've seen a few bad reviews here and then about it being boring, but that's just a small amount of people, right?
Its only boring if you don't go do stuff in the game. Or mission half the time...
If you don't mind ASCII graphics, there's a game called Ascii Sector, which does let you move around in your ship. Additionally, you can land on a planet, where you can buy new ships, buy parts for your ship, get missions, and buy weapons with which you can use to fight on the ground, or on an enemy ship which you can board in space. You can also trade, if cargo runs suit your fancy. There's more to it, that's just some of the basics to it, here's a link: http://www.asciisector.net/ And some pictures:
Why are ASCII games so goddamn cool?
Why are ASCII games so goddamn cool?
Because you can make a game where you can do anything without the restriction of graphics.
Freelancer anyone? OR EVEN BETTER... http://blackprophecy.com/
Freelancer anyone? OR EVEN BETTER... http://blackprophecy.com/
Freelancer was the closest game that I was looking for. IF ONLY YOU COULD WALK IN YOUR SHIP! Can't wait for that Star Wars mod. What's it called? Freeworlds? Black Prophecy seems alot like Freelancer, just updated.
You are asking for a SUPER specific feature that is not widely used because it really doesn't serve much purpose. It wouldn't be that useful unless everything was interactive. But you should seriously consider Elite Force 1 Voyager thing. I don't remember the specifics but you really get to see a lot of the ship, plus it's got great missions in general. [editline]08:41PM[/editline] You shouldn't be complaining so much because these people are making the effort to try to get you some interesting games that may be even remotely close to what you want.
That Bounty Hunter game. You could get out of the cockpit and walk around your ship while in-space, however the ship was little more then a large shuttle at best.
I'm complaining? I didn't mean to. I just wanted a good list of games related to the common interest. We even got some Eve Online talk going too, even though it was off topic. [editline]07:59PM[/editline] "That Bounty Hunter Game." Which one exactly? I know Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. I dont think it had what you said though. Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter lets you walk around your ship and stuff. Fairly generic FPS though. edit: are you fucking kidding how the fuck get out of my head
I too think it is an awesome feature. Liked the parts in SW:KOTOR where you could run around in your ship. Sadly there's practically nothing like SW:Galaxies where you can 'live' in your ship.

This is the total reason why I started this thread, to see if there are other games in the similar gameplay of the Star Wars in space (land combat isn't that great) [editline]08:10PM[/editline]
I too think it is an awesome feature. For when something like SWG comes out, this thread will be of use again. [editline]08:40PM[/editline]
Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter lets you walk around your ship and stuff. just wait for infinity if it ever comes out :/ www.infinity-universe.com
There needs to be more space rogue-likes. :frown:
Infinity. Wait nevermind it's taking forever.
Being able to walk around the ship is not a feature planned for Infinity's release. The only game that has what you want, is Galaxies i'm afraid.
Its only boring if you don't go do stuff in the game. Or mission half the time...
EVE is boring even when you do things the combat is so shit for a space game.
There is a cockpit mod for X³ Reunion and X³TC, its quite cool.
There is a cockpit mod for X³ Reunion and X³TC, its quite cool.
Yeah, the cockpit mods are all really nice. Much better feeling of being in a real ship and stuff. In the bigass ships you even get an empty bridge (since the ships are computer controlled).
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Noctis. I mean it's not much of a ship, but you still walk in it and do everything in it. You can even walk ON it, even in space :v:
That's a good point, actually. You access all the controls of the ship by altering the panels on the walls. It's not really a fully-fledged game. All you do is explore the big procedurally generated universe.
Oh, also, Unreal 2: The Awakening lets you walk around your ship in between missions but that's all you can do really. Well, that and talk to the crew members. And Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty will let you hang out on the main character's ship in between missions as well and do tons of things.
Eve is like WoW in space with ships.
It actually isn't. It's less fun.
Okay, I just decided to stick with Star Wars Galaxies. I tried the trial for Eve Online, I've got roughly 12 days left as of now, and I got to say; it's hard take in all at once when you first start playing. But the fact that it has a player run economy and player run corporations (guilds anyone?) I even saw a corp call "I like female genitals." The end list of games recommended in this thread are(not in order): Eve Online Free Lancer Noctis Star Trek Online Unreal 2: The Awakening Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty X3 Reunion and Terran Conflict Infinity Orbitor Mass Effect Star Trek: Elite Force Ascii Sector Homeworld 1 and 2 Black Prophecy Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter Quite a list. Did I miss any?
