I'm not saying it's not a great platformer, but that reviewers are giving it better scores because it's a Super Mario game.
well obviously, there's no denying that. any mario game gets rated higher simply because of how popular mario is, and the fact that most gamers today grew up playing the first mario games.
the game is still an amazing platformer though. but if it wasn't a mario game i still think it would of gotten an 8.5 or 9.0.
I not going to lie, the platforming in this game is the best platforming I've ever played (3d or 2d). It just works so well, and some of the mechanics are really interesting (the drill for example).

Nintendo has been remaking the same game for 15 years, no wonder they're getting good at it.

They've always been good at it.
AHA! Those are Dolphin screenshots! (Using OpenGl no less!) :P
Huzzah this game is fun
Just got my 100th star, I really can't imagine going back to the original galaxy.
I just wish there were more boo shrooms. I only found like what, 2?

Now that I think about it, I think there's only a single level with it.
The Special World and a bit of World 6 really only have the most difficult stuff.
Grand Master Pain In The Ass, included.
Bought the game yesterday, did the minimum to beat it today but am going for all the stars. The one thing that bugs me a little bit is so far it feels like they tried to cram in as many different features as possible, with the effect that you'll only see them in a scant few stages. I'm not saying that any of the game mechanics are bad; in fact I had a lot of fun with it, but I personally would have liked it better if there were more levels for certain things. Hell, maybe even have the worlds themed for certain mechanics. Like a beat world, or a flip world, with levels combining mechanics occasionally.
Fuck I can't wait for this game anymore. Damn it.
Only 15 more days for us European folks.
Can't wait to play this game. Played the first one to the very end.

Only one level had the boo mushroom, that's my only real complaint on it. (from memory anyway) on my green star hunt finally, these things are fucking vicious to find later on.
If i see that Birdo creature i will tear myself to bloody ribbons.
Only one level with Spring Shroom too (as of world 6 anyhow, dunno about World S yet)

Thankfully, I fucking hated the spring power up, it doesn't change mario's outfit at all and it gives him the amazing power to... jump high and walljump with slippery ass controls.
This game is awesome. Finally got to 92 Stars, but it's getting harder to obtain more since the only ones I can get now are Daredevil runs which I hate.
Throwback Galaxy is quite disappointing though, only one map from SM64. I still think Bob Omb Battlefield would have been better since it is the first map you can enter.
And all of Bowser's boss fights are a little too easy, it's virtually impossible to die.
Even [sp]Gobblegut[/sp] was harder. Though I still hate Stone Cyclone Galaxy, seems like they sped up everything from the first game. And maybe Boo Moon since the maze is quite hard to navigate.
And Luigi is awesome, runs so fast and jumps so far/high. I just hate how his shoes seem to have flat soles or something.
Rolling Coaster Galaxy is pure awesome as well.
I made some gameplay videos if anyone's interested

This game is apparently EASILY the best game the wii has to offer, haven't played it however but i loved the first game.

This game fucking sucks
For making me not able to play Red Dead Redemption.
Everytime I try to enter the vast world of the West, I keep being persuaded to travel multiple galaxies with a plumber.
Best Mario game ever, in my book.
This game is fucking awesome
3 days left!
Can't fucking wait. God damn those asynchronous release dates :argh:
I bought the game three days ago and it's easily better than the first. I'm only at world three but it's fucking awesome already and can't wait to see that throwback galaxy with the SM64 level. Easily the best game on the Wii right now.
