Well, I've gotta play Devil's Advocate here. Imagine you call yourself an artist. When asked about your art, you say "I do paint-by-number stuff". That's like saying you're a football player and all you do is a backyard game twice a year, or that you're a movie buff when you've only watched the moves from one genre. Sure, technically, you are actually an artist or football player or movie buff, but in reality, you're really stretching the intent of the word.
Same applies with games. Nearly everyone plays games of one type or another now. Good luck finding someone who hasn't loaded up hearts or solitaire! But really, simply playinga handful of games doesn't make you a gamer in the true sense of the word. I would think that at the very least, a "gamer" would have to experience several or even many of the genres available. Playing a few games on facebook or hopping into the latest arena shooter (Black Ops) doesn't really cut it, you need more than that.
When a girl tells me she's a gamer too and then I find out all she plays is Zelda and JRPGs, I must admit to being a little disappointed. I would hope a "gamer" had broader tastes that that.

i played black ops and it was actually pretty fun, it doesn't really deserve all the hate it gets as a "same thing every time" game series, not going to lie

It's a opinion, Sure the other cod's are entertaining but it all depends on you, Personally I found it better playing it with friends or in a console split-screen with 4 buddies then online.

I don't find it wrong to enjoy other games like mainstream games. They seem to make it out to be the 'devil of gaming' to have fun while playing Halo. I don't actually own any of them because I play them so much at friend's houses, but it still isn't 'wrong' to play and have fun while playing them.
I have no need to change other peoples taste. I suffer no illusion that My preference is the only preference. I Hereby swear never to intrude on other gamers gaming interests ans habits. Maybe you guys should try the same.

When people define Gamer or says because you don't play this game then you are not cool or not a gamer. Just because I don't play black ops doesn't make me not play shooters. Just because I don't have anymore love for xbox doesn't make me a PC "nerd". Thats what I fucking hate.

You're exaggerating. Nobody is stupid enough to think that. Don't get me wrong, as great as Halo is, it has its fair share of dipshits. but nobody is that dumb.

So you claim to have met and know everyone on Xbox live and in the real world who has an opinion about Call of Duty and FPS games? ...I didn't think so.
Before you guys all go around screaming about how someone else is wrong, try and remember; You don't know everything/everyone.

The whole "you shouldnt play games just because they're mainstream" thing doesnt make sense.
I play CoD, even though I dont really like the game, because all my friends play it. None of my friends play BC2 for the pc, so I rarely play it.
I really think the point I hate is players who look down at TF2 and then sit for hours playing CoD Black Ops. IF you're gonna be a snob about my favorite multiplayer game, I can be a snob about yours.

It is and I try to look at games with an open mind. I enjoy casual games as much as I do the 'hardcore ones'.
