CoD4 was excellent.
Fifty thousand gamers used to play here... Now it's a ghost town :v:
Yes. I know about scrolls, but what I meant is a game similar to MineCraft. A 3D game, it could be anything. I remember reading somewhere that Notch didn't expect scrolls to be something that all MineCrafters would enjoy. I really do not want to watch this guy fail. That would rough on him. And he's showing signs of fear of failure. His procrastination, his stress... sure, it's normal to be stressed when you're suddenly leading a multi-million dollar project, but something tells me he doesn't have the confidence to get through this.
I'm pretty sure he's a liquid millionaire.
Just to kind of give some support of it not going out, I am a "closet" gamer. How videogames are looked down upon by "society", isn't here with minecraft. I know people of all "cliques" that play it. It is a total game that is enjoyed by people from every group.
In what world are video games looked down upon? Obsessing may be, but just casually playing games like MW2 or black ops are perfectly fine in society. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline]
Yes. Well I'm not going to be able to convince anybody anyways. I could go get some legitimate statistics by doing a Sample Survey. This might provide some insight on this.

The minecraft forums are filled with 12 years olds with really short attention spans, and the game is in early beta. If anything, it's still growing, and it it'll continue to grow until after its full release. Also it's all about quality, not quantity. I don't care if people who don't like the game leave the game. It means I don't have to hear them bitch.

I would have to stop people in the street and ask them well designed questions such as "Have you heard of the game called MineCraft" or "What do you think of the game?" Also... I caught this just now. I didn't even know this was there. A quote from Notch here: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1066626-I-Talked-To-Notch-Something-Unimportant-3-5-11 "The game has gotten a huge boost in sales and internet talk now, and I'm almost scared to see what's going to happen." I'm just saying...
More people are going to act much more harshly as they are expecting more. Perfect example is Call of Duty. Since it has a huge playerbase, it receives much criticism.
The game is barely halfway through its prime. No way is it "on its way out." Notch and most of his development team have just been strongly focusing on Scrolls rather than pushing forward on Minecraft's development. As an effect, of course some people are going to get bored, updates aren't pouring out like they used to. Anyone here miss those Secret Friday Updates? Regarding Seananners, of course his videos sparked SOME attention to the game. No way in hell was he even in the top five reasons for Minecraft being as known as it is today, though. Also, obligatory. [img_thumb]http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/6470/3e41c056bfc7bdb6.gif[/img_thumb]

As the game starts to change, they may not like it like the original versions they had come to love. This is extremely common. Even if the game wasn't complete, we treated it like a complete game and that's where it was made popular.
You worry too much. Minecraft has an extremely loyal fanbase.

Everyone has different opinions and you have a valid point, but this goes both ways, Minecraft is only going to continue to spread more and more, the crowd gets newer and newer each day and the community will always continue to expand. Some oldies will like where it's going, some oldies will hate it, but there will always be more and more newcomers to the game who only know "The game has grown, and will continue to grow." Some old players who lose interest aren't going to bring Minecraft to a halt for the aforementioned reason being more and more attention and as such more and more newcomers. You seriously have nothing to worry about. Unless Notch outright declares Mojang is scrapping Minecraft development entirely, it will live.
I just bugs me how little attention notch is putting to this game. i mean he is one of the if not the most popular indie game to date. you'd think he'd try and spend alot more time on the things that made him 10 mil.
Here is one of my friends who plays and loves MineCraft and what he thinks. And is also what I think. Don't jump to conclusions, the bottom end of this message is actually supportive towards MineCraft. Batman: And Minecraft is dieing Batman: Like a monkey with THE AIDS Batman: Just Like Easy-E Batman: Killed with Aids Batman: But nawh Batman: The diehard self proclaimed veterans of Minecraft are QQing Batman: Because Minecraft is becoming mainstream. Batman: Ish Batman: and Some of the PureCraft fucks are getting pissed because of the new gamemodes Batman: Like Adventure mode Batman: And a potential city mode Batman: Where you get Citizens Batman: To build around you Batman: I still do love it Batman: It just needs NPCs Batman: Like Batman: Friendly NPCs Batman: Let's face it Batman: When Notch adds something big. Batman: It's Big. Batman: Not just Hyped up to be big Batman: I also noticed you commented on it being overrated Batman: Think about it Batman: The first time you went on Batman: You looked as far as you could Batman: Running around an endless world Batman: Admiring it Batman: CoD4 Batman: You played through the story Batman: Not really feeling immersed in it HyyperVyyper: but minecraft was different Batman: EXACTLY Batman: Minecraft IS different Batman: You can't overhype a game which allows you to make your own fun Batman: If you say it's shit, that's you being shit HyyperVyyper: I'm not saying it's shit HyyperVyyper: I'm just saying that some people might not have appreciated it like we did. Batman: But Minecraft is like Gmod Batman: In the sense that it's user run Batman: It wont die as long as people play it Batman: and since it's not limited by being outdated tecnolocially Batman: It could keep going forever Batman: Like tetris Batman: And Mario Batman: And.. Gmod Thoughts? He plays minecraft much, much more than I do.
He didn't say anything there that hasn't already been said, he's thinking like the rest of us, myself included.
Well, I'll support minecraft's development and I have a well thought out gamemode planned. That might support our community somewhat. I'm excited to get started on it but I really want to code it with the official Java MC API.
[img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/b220a8f37a7d395b70f9b77ae228eaa2.png[/img_thumb]
if you do the math for that, Notch is currently selling almost 9 copies (186 USD) per minute. There's no way in hell it's on it's way out when he's steadily making 1000x minimum wage (probably a bit more than that, closer to 1500x minimum wage). The game's had 178 updates in just under 2 years of development, and almost 2 years in, we're still getting updates a regular 3-4 updates a month, which is significantly better than most other games which may release a bugfix patch a month or two after release, have a DLC pack or two a few months after that, and include a few more minor bugfixes around that same time. Then the game is completely forgotten. Go ahead and make your gamemode. It's going to be a while before things start to decline.
Batman: And Minecraft is dieing Batman: Like a monkey with THE AIDS Batman: Just Like Easy-E Batman: Killed with Aids
Your posts and your friends messages are painful to read.
If it wasn't for SeaNanners, that might not have happened. Call me crazy, but there's a chance that this thing may be headed downhill. You guys might not like that, but you're in the MineCraft forums, of course you wouldn't want to say that. This is where I worry.
Did you... Seriously just contribute the success of minecraft to seananners? You best get the fuck out
Seananners did not make Minecraft popular and I really really hate the fact that people keep saying he is the sole cause of the game's sale increase.
To be honest, I don't even know who the fuck Seananners is.
To be honest, I don't even know who the fuck Seananners is.
He's a pretty good vlogger, did some pretty good lets plays. He contributed quite a bit of sales back when minecraft was smaller. Certainly not the biggest influence on minecraft, but he did help out a little.
I'm not that worried about Minecraft dying overnight, even if they dropped all support one of the modders with the source code from the community would brave the copyright hell to keep the game alive. What I am worried about is Notch and co. getting complacent with little to no development information being distributed, In may the game will be 2 years old. Quite a bit may have been done in 2 years but compared to progress of other indie games (say Overgrowth) the ammount of progress has been slow, but we used to be put at ease by the information he put out on what he was working on. Now all we get is holiday updates rather than content, or development progress. I thought getting more people in mojang would increase the ammount of updates :(
It's funny how he's completely ignoring us because "we're in the minecraft subforum" "nobody like this band anymore" "we do!" "You dont count. You're fans of them" :downs:
I'd say more people complaining is more people caring.
*its :eng101:
snip [editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
If it wasn't for SeaNanners, that might not have happened.
I think it was mostly Simon and Lewis.
I think it was mostly Simon and Lewis.
They started their Minecraft playthrough well after the game had sold hundreds of thousands of copies. In fact, it was only started in December. There is no one person to attribute to Minecraft's success, the reason Minecraft has become this popular is because it is a good game and only because it is a good game. It wouldn't matter who did what on Youtube or in reviews or whathaveyou if it wasn't fun to play.
I'd say more people complaining is more people caring.
Yep. Developers don't give a damn about a whining community, and for a good reason. The community has no idea about the game design plan. The community (for the most part) has no idea how long it takes to code and bugfix a feature. The community doesn't understand that when a team gets larger, it doesn't neccesarily mean content gets put out faster. In other words... the community, for the most part, knows jack shit. The only thing that makes developers shit their pants in fear is when the community stops talking. It means people lose interest, and when people lose interest, the game dies. Fortunately, people are still talking about Minecraft, and it doesn't seem like people will stop talking anytime soon.
it's like justin bieber, except mincraft is awesome! haters just enjoy shouting it from the roofs.
