Yep. Developers don't give a damn about a whining community, and for a good reason. The community has no idea about the game design plan. The community (for the most part) has no idea how long it takes to code and bugfix a feature. The community doesn't understand that when a team gets larger, it doesn't neccesarily mean content gets put out faster.
In other words... the community, for the most part, knows jack shit.
The only thing that makes developers shit their pants in fear is when the community stops talking.
It means people lose interest, and when people lose interest, the game dies.
Fortunately, people are still talking about Minecraft, and it doesn't seem like people will stop talking anytime soon.
but notch gives quite a few damns about his whining community :raise:
[editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
in fact, the whining community is how he corrects problems and content issues in his own game, according to the man himself
It will take quite some time for it to actually die off to, it probably never will.

There's whining and there's whining. You have people who adress issues in the game that can be fixed, and then you have people who are generally a waste of genetic material, who believe the game is their personal playtoy and Rolf/Mojang exists solely for the reason to entertain them.

As long as the game has a free mode of play, there will always be poor ass Russians and Polish dudes playing the game.
In 2078, when 99% of the world's population has been annihilated and Sweden is just a smoking, radioactive crater, there will still be a server full of Polish people building giant, blocky dicks.
if you do the math for that, Notch is currently selling almost 9 copies (186 USD) per minute. There's no way in hell it's on it's way out when he's steadily making 1000x minimum wage (probably a bit more than that, closer to 1500x minimum wage).
The game's had 178 updates in just under 2 years of development, and almost 2 years in, we're still getting updates a regular 3-4 updates a month, which is significantly better than most other games which may release a bugfix patch a month or two after release, have a DLC pack or two a few months after that, and include a few more minor bugfixes around that same time. Then the game is completely forgotten.
Go ahead and make your gamemode. It's going to be a while before things start to decline.
:psyboom:
I got bored because Profan's server reset the map for the millionth time, not because the game is boring.
Statistics.
"Sup Everybody! COD4 is Awesome" was printed on my school's morning announcement broadcast. I asked the guy next to me, "What's COD4?" He explained it and how amazing it was, the graphics and gameplay and storyline... and I was dumb enough to listen to him.
Nearly 4 years later, I seriously regret spending $60 on that game.
Now, I'm not comparing MineCraft to COD4, but I know you gamers. You don't listen to your own opinions, you listen to everybody else. MineCraft is a good game, it's unique and beautiful, but some of us might not be as happy with the latest updates as we might think. And I can see us, maybe in a year, making "MineCraft was overrated" jokes, because it's happened time after time again.
So basically, you say that because you bought a game based on someone's advice and didn't like it and now you don't like Minecraft, it's suddenly "downhill?"
Hah.
and now you don't like Minecraft, it's suddenly "downhill?"

You obviously have not be reading very well to say this.

It's not called MineCraft, fuck

I never heard of Seananners until I saw his jack skellington video.

So.. if I happen to like something that several other people do, I don't have an opinion?

Actually decided to keep this map until notch or someone else forces me to change.

Are you kidding me? You're seriously gonna generalize everyone?
Sorry, but that's a very silly thing to say. The vast majority of people are smart enough to form their own opinions. Not once have I saw someone else's opinion and just stole it because I don't think the same way as other people.
I AM plenty happy with what minecraft has become, and I see no qualms or problems with what I know of his future plans for the game. This is MY opinion, and mine alone, not the entire "gaming" community as a whole. I'm an individual just like everyone else here with my own thoughts.
Just because someone talked to you about a game they thought was good that you didn't like in the past doesn't mean gamers have hivemind opinions. He liked it, you didn't, this is why if it's possible you should try demos out before buying full games to see if you like it or not. We have our own tastes in everything.
For the last god damned time, I don't dislike Minecraft.
If that's directed at me, I was stating your dislike for COD, not Minecraft. :downs:
What does actually bug me is that "Scrolls" Is now indev. And therefore the Beta will somewhat be slowed down towards the full game. Never-the-less the game is still brilliant.
The game bores me already, played it since the early alphas
For the last god damned time, I don't dislike Minecraft.

Imagine posting that thread on Minecraftforums.
God, the nerd-fanboy rage would be hilarious.

The point was simple, hype a game up enough, and people will listen. Maybe you can think for yourself, but "statistically" gamers tend to listen to each other. And if that's crazy to believe, then maybe I am.
It is yeah, Scrolls is the next big thing I tells ya!
While we are still on the subject of "Is X responsible for Minecraft's popularity" I think that name drop in the TF2 blog was defiantly a factor in Minecraft's growth.

I honestly think Minecraft grew popular because it was actually a good game. I have dreams of being in the Minecraft world.
Kinda makes me happy thinking about 'em.

As an adult gamer, I know what I like and don't like. True, the hype-machine for games is terrible, but Minecraft was a grassroots game. I only started playing when I saw V4 of the Minecraft thread, and thought . . . hmm, I should give this a try. Those who a fickle and who change their minds or don't listen to their own opinions . . . we have a name for them, they're called "immature" or "children." And most children these days are very spoiled and expect anything they buy to be perfect.
Just watch the little "XXX have bought the game in the last 24 hours" thing. That number keeps climbing. Daily.
Now, granted... It's not quite as much of a rapid growth... Indeed, it does seem to have plateaued somewhat... However, the number isn't falling, so it's certainly still being purchased en masse.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. You have to realize... The game's not even released yet. It's an open beta. There'll be plenty of people buying it upon release. More than now. It'll peak again.
And then it'll peak every time he releases an expansion pack for it, or moves it to another console, or does something major. We are only in Beta, you know.
Seananners did not make Minecraft popular and I really really hate the fact that people keep saying he is the sole cause of the game's sale increase.
Agreed. I, along with some of my friends, was playing Minecraft long before I even knew who SeaNanners was.
