Does the sand gathering trick work on gravel?
Yes.
Here's a tip for faster mining (doesn't work in SMP anymore thanks to Notch). I call it click-mining. The way breaking a block works normally is that after the block breaks, there's a half-second delay before breaking the next one. If you release the left mouse button the moment the block breaks, and click it down immediately after, it removes that half-second delay. That may not seem like much, but with a diamond pickaxe, the effect is astounding. tl;dr version: Let go of left mouse, click again quickly, remove mining delay between blocks.
this was my little secret... but I wasn't sure if it was my mind fooling with me or if it actually was faster. why the hell doesn't it work anymore :(

Note: Only applies to SMP.
I have one :buddy: Easily Finding Dungeons In SMP: When in SMP, press F3 to show every AI bots ID, look down, and find a clump of 3-4 IDs moving around together, then dig straight down above the clump of IDs, and wallah!
Does the sand gathering trick work on gravel?
Good way to gather gravel without getting flint.
Updated OP with more stuff. Added credit to the ones that posted it. [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Good way to gather gravel without getting flint.
But the only thing gravel is EVER useful is for flint. Other then that it's a big pain in the ass.
But the only thing gravel is EVER useful is for flint. Other then that it's a big pain in the ass.
That's not real gravel, that's "fools gravel".
I thought the walking on any surface was pretty obvious I mean, I figured that out when Notch released sneak mode.
If you position yourself right, you can use gravel or sand to see through the world and find both normal caverns and lava caverns. I've done it once to dig straight down without dying.
I thought the walking on any surface was pretty obvious I mean, I figured that out when Notch released sneak mode.
I saw people on facepunch talking about how they should use water buckets to get over pools of lava so I thought it might have been useful for some people.
Good thing to set one of your mouse buttons to double click, if you have many buttons that is. [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline] I also use this one:
Pretty sure it's been said before, but you can use doors as a way to stop water and use it as an effective water elevator.

Sorry, this one thing in particular just pisses me off. [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
I also use this one:
This seems like a lot of trouble for what it's worth. If they are both "closed" to each other, you can walk along the top.

If you open your inventory and drag a stack of items outside the inventory window, you toss all the items in that stack at once. Most of the facepunchers knew this, but a lot of others who will read this don't/didn't.
This seems like a lot of trouble for what it's worth.
Yeah, but I'm too lazy to punch trees so i save as much as I can.

To get more coloured wool from your dye, dye sheep then take their wool. You can get up to 3 blocks of coloured wool from one piece of dye, rather than just one.

Oh, this one's easily forgettable. Holding shift before pressing F switches through the view distances backwards. (Normally it goes Far, Normal, Short, Tiny, but if you hold shift, it goes in reverse: Tiny, Short, Normal, Far.)

I made a tips and tricks thread. Nobody likes mine. :saddowns: [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Ctrl + F makes it go from Far to Tiny, and vice versa.
I thought that it was shift + f.
Ctrl + F makes it go from Far to Tiny, and vice versa.
Ctrl + F seems to have the same effect as just F.
In SMP, find a server that uses commands that can teleport you. Find a random spot far away from spawn, set that location to where you want to teleport, and die, returning to the spawn. As soon as you spawn, use the teleport. Minecraft will load all the chunks in that area - starting with the fartherest first - while holding you in place. And you can see every single 8x8 chunk while loads. And the ores in it. And the dungeons if you're lucky. Edit: also, rename thread to "Minecraft Tips and Tricks Megathread V. Guys drop sand on a bed then crouch"
100% Faster craft collecting! Lets say you're going to make alot of torches. You put the coal and the sticks in your work area. And you start to click with your left mouse button furiously. But what alot of players don't know is that you can use BOTH mouse buttons. So if you furiously click both mouse buttons, you'll gather your crafted items alot quicker.
why not just right click once?
why not just right click once?
Because one right click when you're crafting torches only gives you four torches. He's referring to when you're pulling the finished product out of the crafting slot.

If you repeatedly hit the fog key (Default F) then the map will flash blue for a second, only leaving flames visible. You can use this exploit to find dungeons.
Shift+F2 makes an image of 2-1GB or crashes your minecraft :v:
