I never said they all were. If you read my first post, I said a lot of them are fine, and yet at the same time the good ones are based on animals that already got Pokemon in earlier games.
I don't want you all to think I'm trashing the games because I'm not.
Another thing that's kind of annoying is that they keep retconning in new evos for old pokemon.
Ice creams have never been thought of, and it would be obvious to have an ice type icecream. It wouldn't have been "stupid" or "unoriginal" if it would've been released on 1st gen.
Again, it's not "unoriginal" in any way, but being original isn't the point. It should also be a good idea, and frankly, no I don't feel like it's a good idea.
And just to show that I'm not driven by nostalgia to make these claims, I also feel like geodude and onyx followed the same lazy "slap face on it" process.

... how many buff rocks, and rock snakes have you seen? and by your logic, half of all pokemon are stupid
caterpie: oh lets stick a face on a caterpillar
weedle: oh lets stick a face on a caterpillar, again!
sudowoodo: oh lets stick a face on a rock tree
grimer: oh lets stick a face on a wad of slime
muk: oh lets stick a face on a wad of slime
voltorb: oh lets stick a face on a pokeball
electrode: oh lets stick a face on an upside down pokeball
unown: oh lets stick a face on the alphabet.
thats just off the top of my head. now go away

Last time I checked absolutely none of the gen 5 Pokemon have any evolutionary ties with the previous 493.
The way you made it sound like was that they did the same here like they did with gen 4.
Just saying.

You're dense as all hell. I just said geodude and onyx were stupid.
Every other point you made is idiotic too. Caterpillar's actually, you know, have fucking faces, first of all. Sudowoodo, yeah he was kind of weird too. Grimer and Muk, yes though they were slightly more permissible since they were supposed to be weird gross mutations. Voltorb and Electrode were supposed to be like pokeballs for a reason so I can let them slide. And Unown, yeah they're weird as fuck too.

It's mainly how one percieves these ideas that defines how they feel towards the designs themselves that I think causes these arguments.
Hell, when I was a kid I thought a gigantic motherfuckin rock snake was awesome (minus the naughty language).
I don't think I actually dislike any Pokemon designs to be honest, they all eventually grew on me.

I didn't mean for it to sound like that. Yeah I meant mostly in Gen 4, and they did it a little in Gen 3. The thing is I can only assume they'll keep doing it with the newest games too.

You are making a weak argument bro, go ride a Torkoal or something.
Hell, when I was a kid I thought a gigantic motherfuckin rock snake was awesome (minus the naughty language).
Yeah that's a pretty good point. I guess I have to remember they're trying to appeal to kids. And yet I have a hard time imaging some kid thinking a random mashup of gears looks badass.
torkoals ride me
and i like it when they make new evolutions
torkoals ride me

it's not so much the new evos themselves I don't like so much as how they're completely retconning everything through them
I didn't mean for it to sound like that. Yeah I meant mostly in Gen 4, and they did it a little in Gen 3. The thing is I can only assume they'll keep doing it with the newest games too.
That's understandable, theres a pink sunfish that looks like a Luvdisc evo and an afrobull that looks like a Tauros evo. The thing that most people don't know is that they tried to create a whole new eco-system with the new B&W games. The downsides is that yes there are going to be bugs, yes there are going to be crabs and yeah they are going to try to rehash some current designs but if I were to guess their motives then they were giving some concepts a fresh new start.
Luvdisc was a horrible Pokemon combatant-wise so why not reuse the sunfish origin and attempt to justify on that front.
What it really comes down to is would the new Poke's appeal to the younger generation as much as keep hold of us whom have known it for a whole decade now? The balance of keeping the designs fresh and having them relateble to the old designs really is hard, it's something for artists like myself to always be reminded of (though I don't want that to factor in to the weight of my argument).
Those are my thoughts anyway.

so then, you have a problem with the originality of a rock snake, but no problem with a caterpillar thats just a normal caterpillar
Yeah and it's not like I hate all the new guys. I mean, Desukaan is personally one of my favorite concepts for a pokemon so far. Not so crazy about his prevo though...

I just prefer it when it's a creature that at least attempts to make sense biologically. That's all.

Adding fuel to the fire, which is coincidental considering the Poke you have chosen to be associated with.
You know you won't get anywhere in a decent argument antagonising others like that.

torkoal is my favourite concept for a pokemon ever. but out of the gen 5's. probably zeburaika or the sea turtle

If 5th gen was the first gen ever released, nobody would moan.

torkoal's p cool but your neon green recolor is an eyesore
Grandma got told.
Finally, somebody said it.
Kinda reminds me of 'ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL' things kids make.
