I was playing as US to see if they could turn the tide of battle in terms of naval warfare in my Japan game but I guess not..
I started a new career in Silent Hunter 4, and am getting used to the game.
My first mission was given to me at January 17th, to patrol the Catalina Islands.
So, I patrol them just fine, I was attacked by several aircraft on the way there, no problem, I have 2 AA guns. I am using a Balao class submarine, thats 2 AA guns. Both were twin 20mm machineguns. Anyway, I sail around to see if I can do some damage to any convoys in the region, so after a bit I run into some destroyers, I destroy 2 of them with torpedoes and one of them I didn't get a kill on because I rammed it, and it sank. The following convoy, I sank 3 and wounded 1. Here are the screens.

In the end, I exhausted my forward torpedoes, and ran very low on my aft. I had 3 holes in my hull, and a damaged AA gun. Made it back to Pearl Harbor just fine.
I also won a medal, the Wounded Medal.

That indeed is a good deal.
I guess pacific missions were long but they also expected performance out of the subs. The more torps you have the longer you can snap boats in half.

Funny thing is, I think those holes were accidents. I had no damage other than some damaged deck equipment after being run over by that destroyer.
