What could justify a price like that though? I could understand if it was bundled with the new slim, but it would seem that would bring hardware losses to extreme levels, even by microsoft standards.

are you guys all retards? there's nothing in the picture that suggests you can't lay it on the side, incase you all forgot when you lay a 360 on it's side the dvd tray is on the left
This picture, from what we can make out of it is that it's actually flat, with a curved front, as usual
seems to have an additional heat-vent on the top, which is what I assume you guys thought would remove the ability to lay it down on it's side.
edit: the sides are NOT curved, as you can see due to the lighting, there is nothing wrong with the perspective you guys are just getting tricked by the shape of the panels.
They really should have sticked to the old layout.
