The email all these sites got was just a reminder that the Regal Theater event has been canceled. They did not in any way say the surprise was canceled, all these sites are misinterpreting the email.
Perhaps they have an ability of picking whether they want to be condemned or admired, perhaps they are a company our world needs, but not the one it deserves right now. So we'll react to them, because they can take it(emphasis mine) because they are not heroes, they are silent riddlers, and watchful constructors, the Valve knights... *Short footage of Gabe in a cardboard HEV suit riding away upwards the raised road on a moped*.
Even though the event is canceled, I hope the surprise is not. I emailed Gabe, asking him this question, but who knows.
Guys. Think about how much more awesome it will be to experience the astonishing fruit of Episode 3 without knowing anything about it. Think about what your reaction will be when the possible technologies of Source 2 are finally emitted out of your monitors.
The lesser we know about these games, the bigger the thrill it'll be.

What you are talking about is cool, but it's impossible to build up the hype for the game without showing it.
