My favorite version is still SimCity 3000 Unlimited. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimCity_3000#Rerelease
Yep, it's working nicely. We have 3 cities so far and are using the New York region. It's working alright for now. I'll post instructions on setting it up later tonight.
Am i hearing this? Simcity mp?
Am i hearing this? Simcity mp?
yeah you are, the basic idea from what I understand is you link your regions folder to a drop box Darkness has set up with regions in there. Every time you save your city, it updates the region folder with your save file. Its a bit behind, for others to fully see the changes, they need to restart SC4 but for the purpose it serves fairly well.

Aslong as 2 peoples don't put their cities on the same spot it's alright.
Were you added?
Were you added?
Yepp. My city is Eskilstuna, right above yours :P
:siren:How to set-up Sim City 4 MP:siren: 1) Download and register for Dropbox: www.dropbox.com 2) Download Junction Link Magic: http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm 3) Get an invite on Dropbox from someone in the region you want to play. This invite will arrive by e-mail. I am running the Facepunch Public region, contact me by PM if you want in. 4) Once you accept the invite, the folder with that region should download into your Dropbox folder automatically. 5) Create a folder in My Documents -> Sim City 4 -> Regions after the name of the region that you just downloaded. 6) Enter Junction Link Magic. 6a) Press Create. 6b) On the left side, select the folder you just created in My Documents -> Sim City 4 -> Regions -> <regionname> 6c) On the right side, select the shared Dropbox folder. It should be in My Documents -> My Dropbox -> <regionname> 6d) Press Create. 7) Start Sim City 4 :v: How does it work? When Sim City 4 attempts to retrieve the region data, it gets redirected to your shared folder in dropbox. Whenever someone changes a city, the change is automatically uploaded to dropbox and then downloaded onto each of the participants computers. Then their Sim City 4 reads the file and sees the changes. Tips -To see changes that someone has made, load into a different region then go back to the one you wish to see. -Save often so others can see your progress. -If you are afraid of greifing, back-up your region. -You can have multiple regions shared between different people. Just repeat steps 3 - 7. -Communicate with the other players.
Seriously guys it works :D FACEPUNCH NATION
sim city 4 with the rush hour expasion RAWKS!
Not to derail a thread, but since Societies flopped, and Monte Cristo released Cities XL..is that good? Does it satisfy the fix that ive waited for since SC4? And legolover, it does. I want to play SC4 again but my CD is physically broken. Im in a fix but I dont want to pirate it (also to save people from suggesting and then getting banned).

SC4 was awesome. I hope they make another REAL installment and not this Societies crap. I was about to try the SC4 FP nation...but then I remembered that I'm running Linux because Vista doesn't boot anymore... :suicide:
http://blog.simtropolis.com/post.cfm/cities-xl-review Here is a review of it from a City Building centered gaming site.
I would post the video where some guy "beat" simcity (Magnasanti) but those copy right bastards at you tube took the video down. :frown:
How can you beat simcity!?
I visited Simtropolis alot in my "late" stage of SC4 addiction. Good folks, shame you have to pay for a bit of mods. They did however increase the life of SC4, more proof you should have your game modifiable. :buddy: Probably not adding to the conversation, but I wish there was a sincere team of devs that could deliver a full 3D simcity successor. I could care less if its "online", because it seemed to have crippled the general reception of XL. If the "new" EA develops this, I can bet it will be hard as heck to mod, and will have tons of DLC everywhere. I hope they keep the art style within bounds. It would be cool seeing "hick" sims on ranches when you zoom in tending their rances, or seeing high fashion people walking around in the metros, or maybe finding kids playing on a local park. I found SC4 a bit sterile compared to SC3000. There was more "life" in SC3k. Crime eliminated, saftey, health, basically everything maxed and perfect? IIRC it was in SC3k..

Addons are uploaded daily.
Here's my largest city.
Argh, some of the high rises look abandoned D: Is that the blue water mod youre using? Also, the industrial district island is really neat. In my part of town IRL, theres a major leauge stadium in the industry zone too.
You could always use the mod No Dilapidation which makes the building look new, but still abandoned.
Last night I tried installing Rush hour and the CD was scratched and it wouldn't install, so now I'm torrenting it but it's going shit slow. Got it, now to make my city.
Can you see my city in new york?
Can you see my city in new york?
No, I didn't even invite you to the region. How do you think this works? Magic? [editline]09:48AM[/editline] Get on Steam.
I hate it when my game crash and I ofcourse forgot to save :frown:
While looking for for Sim City 4 + Rush Hour, I found; Sim City, Sim City 2000 and Sim City 3000, Sim Copter and Streets of Sim City, but not Rush Hour (found the case) >> found SC4 though [editline]10:13AM[/editline] bawahah, the Sim City 4 case has an Ad for Sims 1 Unleashed on the back
Simcity 4 is so fun, I was playing it for hours yesterday, hell I'm gonna go play it again.
here's the SimCity 4 thread if anybody is interested, it contains lots of useful information http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=852816 lots of pretty pictures too
So, coming from someone that playec Simcities 4 but not Societies, what was the problem with societies? The concept looked cool, building Authoritarian or Cyberpunk cities. So what went wrong?

They ripped all of what made it a SimCity game and just...they turned it into something baaaddd. Must...play....SC4...
:v: I thought this thread was dead, anyways going to re-install SC4 Rush Hour later, with NAM, RHW, SAM, w/e. The nicest highway building tool I've ever seen is gotta be RHW, makes your city pretty with highways.
