I'll probably still shoot myself
I did once try to do a diary, using effectively the vanilla version of SC4:RH, although I did of course download the NAM and a bunch of other stuff. I ended up stopping it halfway through, a) because I didn't envision it ending, and it would've petered out at some point anyway, and it kept fucking crashing randomly anyway.

In-jokes ahoy by the way. And if you're curious we're responsible for The Blue Casket, a game-diary website which was mentioned 3 times in Rock, Paper, Shotgun[/pimp]
Oh god I just saw Simcity 4 deluxe edition on steam and since my cd broke a couple of years ago I typed the CD key into steam

That is actually quite awesome from the publishers.
God damn it now no ones going to respond to my city.
That looks like a pretty expansive road system. Are there more cities in that region?

What type of buildings are you guys using?
Just wondering which would be the best looking choice
This game is like crack cocaine
I spent like 4 hours playing it non stop :v:
Anyways, how the fuck do you get this to work, I'm always low on money by like 3-4k :saddowns:
Am I supposed to use agri plots or something at the beginning?

No, just don't build anything except a powerplant for a starter. At around 1500 inhabitants, you can build the fire department. At around 3-5000, you can build your first hospital, with hugely cut funding, to fit the needs tightly. At around the same stage, you can build your first school too. Don't build water system until the demand for rich sims is getting high, and a police station and other education buildings are a waste of money until you reach 7-10000.
So should i just stick with low res, ind, and comm until 10000?
So should I just make 2 basic cities first, connect them, then work on them individually with the connections?
Also, how do the two cities benefit from each other? Never noticed the difference between two connected cities
Make a city strictly for residents, and a neighboring city just for industrial at first, so they benefit each other as they grow. Once you get high residential $$$ demand, start a commercial city as well.
One good wheeze is to build cities on 4 adjacent plots and then just ferry rubbish between the four cities. The rubbish will just keep moving without going anywhere and it gives you effectively infinite garbage capacity
Although you'll still have to pay
Dammit. My mother threw out the "Seemingly Empty" Sim City 4 Deluxe box which had the key on it. Didn't even get to install it on my desktop. Can someone PM me their key so I can register it on Steam? I have Disk 1 if you need proof that I own it...
After I saw the screenshots, I will make the most beautiful city if possible :v:
Reinstalling, thanks guys.
I built a load of a windmills for power to start with, then when that becomes higher than the cost of a gas plant, you add the gas plant. Then you build a Solar plant later on.
Reason why I didn't warm to SC4 completely was because it required too much thinking. I play games to turn my brain off, not to wire it up dammit!

I just start out with a gas power plant, and decrease its funding to minimal.

Use cheats, HowDryIam and FightThePower for no need of water and electricity for your city. Download Super Demand Ordinance for fast growing buildings. The cheap way of playing SC4.
So, drag n drop building creator? What's the fun if all you do is place zones and get buildings?
So, drag n drop building creator? What's the fun if all you do is place zones and get buildings?
Because it requires a hell of a lot of thinking and planning, lest you run into all sorts of problems - unemployment, pollution, serious traffic congestion, high crime rates, poor health, poor education... basically all the problems a real life city would have to deal with. The list is endless.
I know, I just don't see how there is any fun if you use cheats to remove the challenge.

That's just it, you don't remove the challenge.
Fair enough, I guess the utilities are kind of tedious to go through and upgrade whenever a new option becomes available or you have enough money.
if you only use drag and drop that is

Once you remove those things, then at least for me, it becomes a different game. Then, you can focus solely on creation. Making cities, not just running them. With the limited amount of buildings and things that come with simcity 4, then yeah this may seem boring.
But to the people who love just creating(and then later destroying) things, this game is very addicting. Especially when you get involved with the communities that have Massive databases of custom content - it never ends.
Plus I like seeing my cities grow - from little neighborhoods, into massive metropolises, and sitting back and admiring what you've made is incredibly satisfying.
You guys need to see what they do with city journals over in at simtropolis:

There are a lot of threads in there that put my cities to shame.
Oh wow look at this one!
