Personally, I think Beta Francis looks a lot more badass.

At least his design was re-used for one of the Midnight Riders... Also, I wouldn't mind having Zoey's original voice actor back
I hate casual gamers.

Beta muzzle flash : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbRTGLWV1ME
Current l4d muzzle flash: oh wait the effect went removed
They reduced view distance and added tons of fog, and brighter maps designs.
And removed weapon cocking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66Nidu4IH7A) because it was too hard! and casual people just want to shoot all the time.
And all this happened in 9 months, exactly when valve bought turtle rock studios.
And finally we have l4d2! even more stuff downgraded or removed from previous game
The beta-muzzle flash uses the same style most source games did, the reason they removed it was because in dark places, you could see it switching between the lightmap grid chunks; it looks REALLY bad.

And on top of that, L4D has muzzleflash, its just first-person based, and looks better.
I don't much care for the brighter map designs, but 'ey its not "bad".
The weapon cocking is pretty stupid if you have to each time you pull the gun out, I could see it for each time you pick up a weapon.
Valve was working with Turtle-Rock Studios way before this happened, It was probably when they got feedback from the play-testers.
L4D2 sucks pretty bad, but Turtle-Rock was dissolved by then.
Quite frankly, I think L4D2 was planned to be a more console-oriented release, and since VALVe is known for PC gaming; they never wanted to officially say it.
The only thing I didn't like about l4d2 were the main characters.

Characters were better dressed for the apocalypse, and l4d1 is not that bad but in l4d2 they look like rednecks dumbasses with weapons

it sounds like you're nitpicking and shouting CASUALS ARE RUINING GAMING while pointing to specific, minuscule problems that aren't even relevant (how does weapon cocking and muzzleflash make L4D less casual lol)
From a ShackNews article:
Update - Doug Lombardi of Valve confirmed that Semple and Gates have been hired, but offered a clarification: "This is probably better categorized as Valve hiring two new employees instead of an acquisition of a company or opening of a Valve SF office."
