Valve just came up an awesome way to find hackers and trap them.
HOLY SHIT!
They sort of already did it with the guy who leaked HL2.
I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time and get into his account before steam guard was invented.

I'd so do that. Then I'd demand ransom money for it's safe return.
Gabe has loads of red polo shirts, as most of the pictures/videos of him hes wearing one.

Maybe it's always the same... :raise:
Vapor is a third-party Steam chat client, I don't see what Guard has to do with that.
Then, why i can't login into Gabe's account ?
Then, why i can't login into Gabe's account ?
Because Valve would have to be dumb as hell to make the protection client-side.

He doesn't... you know... work for valve or anything.
He doesn't... you know... work for valve or anything.

He doesn't... you know... work for valve or anything.
what?
Anyone tried logging into something like TF2items with his account?
He doesn't... you know... work for valve or anything.
I hope you're retarded.
Anyone tried logging into something like TF2items with his account?
That uses Steam's OpenID, which is through Steam's own site, so nope, it's not going to work if the normal site didn't.
No.
Why? These kind of thread titles are what the badage boys use to lure their victims.
Well I'm gonna try this when they release it, I'm a bit paranoid about my account :v:
This sounds cool, but what happens if you lock your account to a computer and then that computer dies? Is the account lost forever?
This sounds cool, but what happens if you lock your account to a computer and then that computer dies? Is the account lost forever?
When you attempt to log in you can have the option to send an email to your email address (The one you linked to your Steam account) asking you to enable it's use on the computer.

No. All you need to do is send a ticket to steam support or use the activation in your email.
Could nobody sense sarcasm in my post?
Wow I must be harder to read that I thought.
Whatever I meant as soon as somebody hacks him they'll be able to change it, even if you could go back in time to change it you wouldn't get anything from it.

Considering there have been idiots that have reacted just as you have before when doing really idiotic things (See: Monkey123), no, we couldn't detect the sarcasm.
That frenchman's a Spy!
Damn I thought I wasn't late when I tried out vapor to bypass steam guard
though I did get an email
Dear,
We've received a request to access your Steam account from a new computer.
The steam client performing this action is too old to provide its identity.
This action has been allowed during this beta test period but will not be allowed once the test is over.
If you did not attempt this action, you should change your password immediately.
Thanks for helping us maintain the security of your account.

Valve has their own internal version of steam. Even if you got access to his account, you wouldn't be able to gain access to confidential information.
[editline]4th March 2011[/editline]
If Gabe had anything to lose, he wouldn't publish his account information.
Can we manage computers we allow access to? so if god forbid one of them dies or gets stolen, we can unlink it just incase.
So is there any word if you can link multiple computers? I regularly switch between my desktop and laptop when gaming, it would be a nuisance to always have to activate it through email every single time.
Does Steam Guard take advantage of the Intel® Identity Protection Technology solution that Valve and Intel recently announced?
No, not in this beta. We hope to offer additional forms of authentication soon though, so you'll have your choice of secondary authentication methods with Steam Guard.
