It still works very well for League, as much of a team game it is, if you're a good player then you can carry your games until you get to the point where the enemies are just as good as you
Unfortunately there are a lot of people who suck at the game but don't even realise it, so they blame it on the elo system for their shitty teammates when really they're just making no difference in games (commonly you see these people saying "Win lane lose game" etc and blaming the loss on everyone but themselves, there are actually very few games that are 100% uncarryable)
As true as it is that people can rise ELO from carrying games with failing team-mates, I still don't think it's fair to say that they should just be able to be so much better than their team-mates that they basically win the game for the team. You should be able to rise in ELO from being better than your opponents, not just being so much better than your opponents that your team can be as useless as can be

what defines being better than opponents? is it simply outplaying them on a singular scale, or outplaying their entire team? riot(and other arts games) seem to think that being better than opponents means outplaying their entire team - which requires your team to work with you. if your team can't come together but they can loosely coordinate, it's a loss for you.

It's harder to explain with team play, but I'll give you an example. I saw my friend carrying a game on Kassadin, and there's no way he should have won. He was getting double kills every time the jungler came in, and just destroying in general everywhere he went. But the bot lane was feeding like mad and there was actually one late game scenario where the graves straight up walked into gragas and caitlyn and just stood there. If you're thinking I mean he walked just into range and let off a shot then ran back, that's not it. I mean he walked face first into physical contact with gragas and died while turning around. Say my friend hadn't been able to carry quite so hard, but still in general was playing way better than them - is it really fair that he lose ELO because a few people on his team are playing legitimately retarded?
I get that the game requires teamwork, and that your ability to play shouldn't just be judged on your singular ability to outplay the enemy in your lane (or the other jungler in the case of the jungler), but at the same time you really can be dragged down by teammates refusing to communicate with the team, playing poorly, and generally just ruining the game. I have no idea how you'd work that into the ELO system, I'm just saying it has its flaws.
chess is a 1v1 game, LoL is a 5-man team game
well then the problem lies with the system that combines the team-elo's, not elo itself. I'd love to know how the exact system is actually...
i dunno plenty of people have no problem crawling up the Elo scale
As true as it is that people can rise ELO from carrying games with failing team-mates, I still don't think it's fair to say that they should just be able to be so much better than their team-mates that they basically win the game for the team. But the chance of the enemy team being entirely useless is actually much higher than the chance of your team being useless, so when you take those games into account you should still be rising in elo if you are at a higher skill level than the elo you're currently in
Edit: assuming you're better than your opponents, there are only 4 people on your team that can possibly do something wrong, however there are 5 people on the enemy team that can do something wrong, you're more likely to have a feeder/troll/afk player on the enemy team than on your own, for games that have both teams be equal except for you then it's still more likely that you will win and carry your team to victory

you can't win every game of chess, same thing with league
but there are also tards who drag you down in League

exactly my point on that you can't win every game, i basically win my lane every single time i'm mid but i lose games here and there because my team can't cooperate as well as theirs
my only gripe with elo is that you can get matched against/with duo ques, so annoying to either have 2 people on your team not communicating in chat because they think you can hear their voices/getting rocked bot lane because they have so much more coordination than you
Anyone know when EUW is gonna be back up?

theyre all decent tops, it depends on who you go against. Wukong is strong against some tops, as the same for darius and garen.
Wukong is the world's best solo top. No doubt about that.

I am so fucking lonely right now.
this shit better be true. i just bought her
from my extensive playtesting of 4 games, she seems to get wrecked by lee sin even if she has a level advantage, but maybe thats just me being bad at top lane
but her wave clear is so good with wriggles, you just shove lanes constantly
I really want to get Kog'Maw, since he's the first champion I ever got a double kill with.
but my friends tell me to save my IP because he's too hard for me to play as at my level.
just buy kog'maw, you play this game for yourself mostly after all, so why not buy a champion you want?

how did they even reach gold with those awful builds and SS
statistically, if you never throw a game you will win 6/10 games because you can only have 4 bads when they can have 5. a good player will win a lot more then that at 1200 elo and no one should be complaining that elo is broken or whatever
