I have this korean friend who mains AP soraka, he went against a karthus, at 22 mins he was at 12 kills just on karthus the game last 40 mins he ended with 23 kills.

the activation can only crit 3 times tho
why not just build crit garen and crit without an item. Crit garen is cool I feel like playing him now.

I'm pretty sure it only counts for basic attacks, critical hits with statikk shiv don't use up one of the 3 crits.
The spin is modified by critical chance, SotD gives the guy 100% crit chance.
So it works as it should.

Yesterday I had a game where I went 2/7 on vayne, by the end of the laning phase i was 7/10
Finished 22/10 with 350 cs and the highest gold of both teams, we came back from having all of our towers down and had to defend the naked nexus before pushing for the win
