There's always blind and draft. And if you master her to a point where you can play her at a higher standard than other mids, knock yourself out.
Just don't pick her because "you" want to, you have a whole team to consider.
There's an option for everyone, don't put words in our mouth, if you wanna kick back and relax you have a lot of modes to choose from. And hell, as i said, if you wanna play her in ranked sure, why not, just keep in mind that this is a mode where people do actually care about wining. Screwing over _four_ people so you can have your fill of fun despite the fact you KNOW it will harm both you and you're teams performance is trolling.

The delay her ball has on her E(I believe that's the throw skill; I could be wrong) when you threw it just seems like it's more up to luck on hitting anyone.
As for the 0.15 seconds it's the having to spawn the ball, get into the proper position to push it, and then pushing it. You cant do it instantly unless i missed something in the patch notes, if you can however that's great.
It's all so... dammit she could be amazing but... it's like it feels like she has no control over what she does sometimes and it's all left up to luck. It's a shame because conceptually she's freaking amazing.

Since they fixed her not all that long ago I haven't had one moment where my ball wasn't caught by my Throw of Pushback.
The only thing you might fuck up is the stun. If you're positioned at the wrong angle with your ball and target it won't hit. But after 3-4 games you'll nail that aswell.

Unless you think picking a champion that won't be used in a tournament is somehow incredibly bad for your team, in which case you are severely overestimating the level of skill in solo queue games
Would Swain still be nice top lane or will he get wrecked with all the newer top laners? (Darius, Jayce, Elise, Zed, etc.)

If they are overextending too hard, then just come in there and E them. Don't try to Q from far, because chances are, it might miss. Save your Q until you are close enough to hit them. Also, I recommend taking smite and exhaust, as you already have a flash if you know how to ward-jump.
It's just that jungling seems to be the role that requires the most thinking of EVERYTHING at the same time.

So I just got done playing a game where we had a Soraka jungler who got behind lvl 1 from an invade and I was top as Jax and she never ganked at all. I got countered by Vlad and he just kept shoving his lane to me, I wait until I get my hexdrinker and Phage and then I just keep beating him with Q and W and he dies once and our Orianna comes up another time to dive him and take the tower.
We won the game because he didn't expect me to do so much to him and I roamed after I took the tower.
vlad does not counter jax
Lolpro's Dyrus' Jax guide says it does :(

Yeah a lot of people seem to think you have to hit the q to go in
You can also go in with w and then slow them which lets you q for damage or if they blow their escapes
