It's actually . . . more likely. You're not really going to be able to quickly get to them as Syndra since she has zero mobility spells. From what I see of them, they just float and kite around the outside of a fight until they can Flash-Ult or drop the 7 orbs on anybody near them. Even if it isn't a squishy, ult + E, the push back, has some amazing disruption in a fight with the wide stun after.

gunblade - why the hell not, great active, ap works on W, but active godlike and main reason
rageblade - so fucking cost efficient, ap is just a bonus at this point
Xins ap heal and E scaling is really nice
A bit of AP on Xin ain't bad at all due to his healing, unless it's only AP. I mean, buying a rageblade or gunblade if you have the money is fine, but a straight up Deathcap doesn't really make sense.

Ok, so I went Vladimir mid against Swain and he shit all over me, and usually I can make Vladimir mid work against most other Mages. Is there something specific I should be doing better or does he just kind of kick my ass?

Swain is a hard counter to Vladimir. Unless your jungler helps you, tough luck.

You won't be able to take that many towers if you lose every teamfight
If you're doing well enough so that the money used on Rageblade would only make you stomp harder, I don't see why it would hurt. It's a cheap item that gives you AD/AP and passive attack speed increase, can just sell it lategame. Don't rush it or make it your only item, obviously.

Ya i think rageblade is dumb on him. He gains nothing from the extra attack speed over time, just get a wit's end.
If you REALLY need AP for whatever reason, get a Nashor's tooth, the 25% CDR is useful.
That's just my opinion
Weird itemizations with the S2 items are just silly. There is variance but there's not viability.
