If you play ranked as soon as you hit 30 two things will happen:
1. You'll go into 900 elo
2. You will shit it up for everyone else.

When would you recommend starting ranked games? What would be the best way to prepare for them?
Know at least two solid champions in every role
maybe at least 300-400 wins
brace for bads and being forced to support

500ish wins is what's normally recommended.
I'd disagree a bit on the wins. It's a bit of an arbitrary indicator of player skill, I've seen plenty of people with ~2000 games played who are terrible. I'm at like 250 games won myself and I don't have any problems playing ranked.
That being said, it's also still a terrible idea to jump straight in. You *will* feed.
Then what do you go on? There's no magic scanner that says how good you are. How many games you've played at least indicates how much experience you have.
You start playing ranked when you realize that yes, that one tiny little poke you got during the laning phase WILL lose you the game in all probability. And that ever single slight mistake is huge in the long run if the enemies aren't dumb.

I'm not sure it's a quality that can be accurately measured. I considered myself ready for ranked as soon as I could tell when I did something wrong and could at least learn from it for the next time, and when I was able to play a few champions [B]effectively[/B] in each role.
I mean, you're right, you do absolutely need experience before you dive into ranked, lest you become one of the people that are exactly the problem with ranked. I just don't think you should set a number to it. Be proficient with the game and just don't be overconfident that you're ready for ranked, because it will slap you in the face with a complete retard on your team, and you damn well better hope the retard isn't you.

I hate how my ADC shits on me sometimes because I "steal" a kill. I'd hate to let an enemy get away, and sometimes you're in the heat of the moment so you can't really estimate if your ADC can still get the kill or not. I'd rather "steal" it than letting them get away. It's 300 gold to the team anyway (as opposed to no gold at all and slightly more laning time for the enemy). It's a difficult thing, that's for sure. Unless you play premade and you can talk directly to each other.

you need to know at least one champ from every role, though two is very recommended.
you also need to make sure that these champs aren't both countered by the same thing (e.g no point being at your best with singed and tryndamere, who both are countered by range and kiting)

I had an AD carry once yell at me because I murdered the enemy AD carry under their tower as the jungler. He was like "no assist wtf bad jungler"
He was nowhere close enough to contribute anything anyway... I'm not responsible for feeding people assists now am I?
I still have a <1 Win/Loss ratio (why are they talking about a negative ratio, unless they mean (wins-losses)/(wins+losses ), do people have negative wins?), though I started to change my mentality from "My team sucked" to "I could've done x and y better". If you don't win your lane, it doesn't matter if your team sucks.
Got 200 wins in normal. Went to ranked now 4-1.
Reason is im playing and having lan parties with some >2000 elo players who teach me.
(No they are not smurfing, those 4 wins are solo que.)

Sona's very strong and fun to play and whatnot, but I get what he's saying about her not being very rewarding. Since none of her abilities are targeted, in teamfights you feel a bit ineffectual, just mashing your abilities and floating around. Even though she's making a big difference, she doesn't necessarily [I]feel[/I] like she's making a big difference, you dig?
