Fix'd. I will agree some skins are merely desirous because of their legacy status, but hot damn if I don't want a couple of them. Not every skin needs to have new particles and anims.

Brb, picking another champion with sustained physical damage, burst magic damage, defensive steroids, offensive steroids, and an AoE stun/dodge. Oh, and I might have forgotten his base stats are absolutely insane.

Gunblade. Jax is one of the best duelists in the game with this item because he receives spellvamp and lifesteal. It also vastly reduces his kiteability. Lastly, the AD and AP increase the defensive steroids on his ult. It is quite the item for him.
Anyways, it depends on the top.
AP Tops:
Boots/3, Doran's Blade (x2 if needed), Merc treads, Revolver, Hexdrinker, Gunblade, Maw. Build now for the team: Tri-Force if you need all of the damages, Frozen Mallet if you need more Tankiness/CC.
AD Tops:
Cloth/5 or Boots/3, Doran's Blade, Armor boots (the name escapes me atm), Gunblade.
The reason I recommend rushing Gunblade is because most AD tops force hard engagements, where Jax tends to win. With this item he can out-burst, out-sustain, and out-DPS his opponent. The defensive steroids from your ult should cover your lack of armor/mRes.
There are some other tops you might find that hurt quite more. Riven, for instance, is only physical damage. Yet armor doesn't help Jax, as he needs damages for his ult and to actually be able to trade. Additionally, Black Cleaver remedies the "build armor against Riven ftw" problem.
Irelia deals consistent true damage. If you find yourself incapable of saving your E for her Hiten Stlye, grab a Frozen Mallet early on.

Yeah this I agree with. Maybe I don't know all legacy skins but last I checked most of them were fucking terrible.

Doran's (If necessary) > Phage > Gunblade > Triforce > GA > Warmogs > Rageblade/Blade of ruined king
