Using smartcast on an AP carry(most notably Malz, Brand, Cass, Veigar) is so much better, you'll most likely win the lane.
Tanky DPS Taric against physical damage dealers is still fucking amazing.
You'll either kill him or just farm the entire laning phase(can't beat that armor and heal yo).

Most pro's have everything on smartcast by default and then normal cast by holding down shift.
some abilities like ziggs' bombs are a nightmare on smartcast because you don't know the range.
I still use everything on smartcast because I'm a lazy fuck.

What's a good build on Jax after S3? I usually go dual doran's if I can early game, bilgewater cutlass, trinity force, then I turn the cutlass into a hextech gunblade.
Usually my team wins the game before I can finish anything else :v:
But I've been thinking of changing things up. I know rageblade synergizes with his ult and I have thought about trying blade of the ruined king instead of gunblade since it's cheaper but I dunno what's most viable.

I mostly rush Shroud unless my enemy deals magic damage. In that case, I get merc treads and then sheen.
My first major item is Gauntlet. Seriously, it's broken on him.
And because of the slow from Gauntlet, my second item is Rageblade so I can get dem mad stacks.
After that I usually experiment.
I found out that Wit's end works extremely well on him.

I smartcast everything, with a few exceptions on particular skills for certain champions (blitz hook, diana Q, hecarim ult, rumble ult especially,...)
once you know the ranges for the skills of the champion you play, smartcast becomes far superior. I can't play without smartcast anymore.
I tend not to use Smartcast too much, and when I do it's holding down shift.
I don't know why, it's just a preference thing for me. I tried full smartcast once and eh, I prefer to toggle it

I've never had a problem with 99% of skillshots when I use smart cast when it comes to range to be honest, it's not hard at all to get the feel of how far it can go after a few bomb tosses
Smartcast on everything.
The ranges are all the damn same so once you get used to one skillshot the others are exactly identical anyway. You've got like 8 ranges to "memorize" and you're done, you pick it up instinctively after like 2 weeks. No reason not to smartcast.

Of course you wont like full smartcast when you try it for the first time.
You have to make yourself use it until you get used to it.
You wont regret it
Up until a few months ago I played without smartcast, but when I tried Orianna for the first time I thought to myself "this is impossible". I then forced myself to learn smartcast, and I will [I]never[/I] go back because of how much better it is (especially when playing kata).
I suggest you give smartcast a serious try even if you don't like it, it will improve your gameplay.
