I'm trying to use Hecarim, who seems like a pretty balanced jungler in most regards. Apparently has a decent clear speed, proper enough sustain, and very strong ganks--despite all this I'm just not doing well with him.

don't bother learning jungle right now, everything's going to change for season 3, which is in a week or two.

Hecarim has a poor initial clear speed, but once he gets going he snowballs really hard. Where're you having problems?

Isn't that the pre-season? I thought that lasted a few months, then season 3 proper, with all the changes, came in?
Off-Season is the term, but yeah what's wrong with learning the concept of jungling?

Pre season is basically just like starting the season, nothing is different. All circuit points & ELO gain gets carried onto season 3 when it starts.

chances of you being matched with/against them again are super slim unless you're on the extremes of elo
Just had two great normals games with a full team of friends versus randoms. Once, where the other team all had smite. I was our jungle Skarner, and I was terrified. We stayed as a team and destroyed them hard because they were all really bad players (nearly every flash was failed, to give you guys a hint at how bad). Next game, we were up for fun, so we did Pentajungle against randoms. They had a legit team comp, but we won by a landslide. Team consisted of Hecarim, Fiddle, Skarner, Rango (Me), and Kha'zix. We took pretty much every buff they had, and had 4x as many kills as they did. Immediately after the first game, I downloaded LolRecorder and recorded the second game. I'm going to rewatch it a lot.
After the second game, we all played Supports with teleport and heal. It did not go as well and we lost around 30 minutes in.
At least looking at all those defeats on my friends match history cool me down :v:
