How do you play Leona? I bought her, to expand my support options a bit, but I just don't really get how to play her. I know she has the potential to be a very strong support champion, but in the three rounds I've played with her, I've just ended up blowing chunks hard in the laning phase.
What's the secret?

she's a lot better with coordinated teams so you know when your adc is ready for you to initiate, only works well with some ADCs

Well I'm sure you know her combo, it's pretty straightforward. Since she's not a sustainy support, or one with great damage output, your AD carry needs to compensate. The biggest thing AD carries miss with a Leona support is they don't ever abuse her passive. It's free damage!
I build her like this: boots of your choice, shurelya's, locket, athene's, FH, aegis, and the last item depends, but it would be a huge AP item. I usually choose Rylai's for the health, plus the slow never hurts, but an Abyssal Scepter is never a bad idea either.

I have been experimenting an assload.
In general:
-Avoid most AD carries (Vayne works with a team comp centered around peeling for her and get cleanse)
-Avoid no-escape non-tanky AP carries or ones who cannot bring a bruiser down to 30% or less hp past midgame (Malzahar, Kassadin, etc.) (basically everyone)
Top picks:
-Darius
-Xin
-Jax
-Nunu
-Singed
-Olaf
-Skarner
-Mummy
-AD Sion (op as shit)

not 100% sure how the new TT works in terms of team comps but I'm thinking it's probably similar to the old one, we did this:
me - singed (90% of games) or yorick (if singed was banned)
piggycan99 - jax, jayce, irellia
famouz - jungled lee sin (most of the time)
we ended up going 12-0 with these picks
Shaco brings great map control and if you go ap you can manage some decent burst late, bait them into 2 boxes and let your team finish the job

you need an ad carry who has brain cells to use leona well, if they dont abuse your passive and go in when you go in leona is useless during the lane phase
she is still a cc beast late game

Needs to be an RP version, so I can see how much money I have wasted on this game.
I've been pining for support champions again. I might dust off Janna, seeing as how she was my go-to champion from levels 1-30. It's a shame she got hit so hard by nerfs over the last season, but I'm sure she's still viable.

Welcome to support champions.
On the plus side, there are apparently some big reworks in store for supports over the coming season--especially in how they can generate gold. Morello wants to keep supports as farm-free champions, but give them greater gold income to promote more strategic itemization. Could be just the breath of life the role needs right now!

play ALL the roles, im an example of a person who played support 1-30 and a bit further until i hit myself in the head but it was too late because my normal elo was too high compared to my actual skill

I do play all the roles, I'm just best with support. I'm a pretty solid top, too, and I can mid in a pinch. Still learning how to jungle, though, and I'm a pretty poor ADC.
