I always thought that looked a bit silly, to be honest. It doesn't really make sense considering the size of the headcrab. Also you should add more zombie variants, if you can. I always found it strange that headcrabs specifically targeted asian males with white shirts. It would be cool if you could see zombie rebels of both genders and maybe metrocops too.
Yeah, I kinda hated the skull faces on the headcrabs. Actually, the zombies aren't using the Asian head- they use a bloodied and whitened Male_09 (Erdim) face. And yes, so long as we can get some more modellers, I hope to add zombie variants.
I never even noticed the skull faces on the headcrabs until I played HL1 for like the 10th time. I honestly prefer them without it, it just makes it look like the headcrab is as thin as a plastic bag. Also that statue looks pretty awesome, and having a new zombie with more elements of "the thing" would be great for HL2, since it already had elements of that to begin with.
***Quick update to G-man*** I've now finished his hair, and thickened his stubble. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zuQh3.jpg[/img_thumb] I haven't made a mipmap yet, so he looks a bit sharp from a distance. Also, yet another new eye texture, and this is most likely the final! The eye's blood veins seem a little too pink-ish, from what I recall the colour is usually a bit darker. And Gman's skin tone seems a little too pale as well, but other then that it looks great.

As for the eyes, I took that picture in the model viewer, which has horrible lighting, it's actually darker than it appears in the pic.
What bugs me about the eyes is that they just look too flat. The default eyes had a very high-contrast, alien look to them that's really difficult to replicate. [t]http://th02.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2011/297/7/9/g_man_2_by_htf_ytp-d4du87x.png[/t] I was working a year ago on a pack of vastly improved eyes for all the individual characters. If I can dig it up I'll send it to you. I thought about a few new names for the mod: Half-Life Forever Half-Life 2 Anticitizen One Half-Life 2 HD Also, If you need a mapper. I can do it.
I thought about a few new names for the mod: Half-Life Forever Half-Life 2 Anticitizen One Half-Life 2 HD Also, If you need a mapper. I can do it.
How about Half Life 2 Enhancement Mod?
How about Half Life 2 Enhancement Mod?
I don't know, It doesn't really grab your attention.
eye stuff
I agree that my G-man's eyes need to be contrasted more, and I like yours, except for the second pic, it seems a bit- blah. If you'd like to send em over, by all means, and I'll credit you if I use them. However I think I like my eyes for the rest of the characters better.

The irises of his eyes seem almost a little TOO crisp/sharp. The way his eyebrows look also seem a little strange to me, personally. Everything else looks fine, though.

As for the eyes, they're a bit crisp, but I also only just mipmaped them today..I dunno if that has anything to do with it. Also, by all means, everyone should share their honest opinions, a lot of times it's what helps shape mods to better fit the community.
I think the problem with the eyes right now is not that they're too sharp (though that may be part of it), but rather that there appears to be no shadows being cast by the eyelids or nose. It's making the eyes stand out much more than they should. Here's a quick n' dirty mock-up of what I mean. [t]http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/1434/zuqh3.jpg[/t]
That has to do more with lighting in-game I believe, unless you just mean darkening it around the eyes?
That has to do more with lighting in-game I believe, unless you just mean darkening it around the eyes?
Yeah, it's mostly a lighting issue. I don't know if ambient occlusion in the source engine would be precise enough to do the job, but shadowing around the rim of the eyes would really make a difference.
Ok, how would it be, if I re-designed G-man's Irises, made them more like the originals, but then animated it to give a sort of fire-y-heat wave effect where parts of the iris ripple? That way it'd be more to the originals, but have something new and cool. Or should I just go with the current one?

Don't overthink it, it'd be more effort than it's worth.

Don't overthink it, it'd be more effort than it's worth.
I want to be sure I get the G-man just right, as he will be the first and last thing you see in the game. I want the people to go "WOW!" from the first look, not "Meh, could be better". Granted I will try my hardest to make the rest of the game look as awesome as possible, and put just as much time (if not a lot more) into those parts as with the G-man.
How's this for a more accurate G-man eye with more contrast? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/o6TbZ.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/D18J8.jpg[/img_thumb] Pic 1 was taken in the model viewer. Pic 2 is in-game with mipmapped eyes, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the mipmaps on his eyes though, they kinda make it too blurry.

(Assuming you're using vtfedit)
Wow that looks great :-D
While your gman looks awesome, extremely detailed, he lost a lot of small details on his face. for instance in the original gman skin he had small red/purple dots (sort of like small growths that old people get) around his upper lip and cheeks and other places.
I think Gman needs to be quite a bit more pale, when I compare yours to valve's, you've got a much more color in him.
He looks much younger than he does in Vanilla HL2
***Update*** Nearing a final version now I think. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/QH4P2.jpg[/img_thumb] A shot of the new skin in Episode 1: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/PgPYA.jpg[/img_thumb]
I think Gman needs to be quite a bit more pale, when I compare yours to valve's, you've got a much more color in him.
Mine's about the same paleness as the vanilla Gman. The difference is that mine's more fleshy-colored, VALVe's is tinged yellowy-green.
Could breakable lights and stuff be added to the maps? So that when your in battles it makes the game a little bit more realistic. Let's say there's an explosion of some sort it would break a light fixture and you'd be forced to use your flashlight. Also when the mods done can you share the updated vmf's?
The Episode 1 model looks much better, unless it's a lighting issue that makes the HL2 one look fleshy.
The Episode 1 model looks much better, unless it's a lighting issue that makes the HL2 one look fleshy.
It's the same skin, it's just in EP1 they use a lot of white, blue, and green lights whenever you see G-man. In HL2 they just used the base lighting from the maps, which is kinda yellowy, then added a small blue light in there.
A shot of the new skin in Episode 1: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/PgPYA.jpg[/img_thumb]
WOW, lighting makes a REALLY big difference.
