I would honestly consider changing the lights in any Gman close-ups to match what's done in Ep1, because those lights make the Gman look like the mysterious, hostile, and inhuman being he is.
There's just something off about it, that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe he looks have a gaunter face (as if he's starving)
Could breakable lights and stuff be added to the maps? So that when your in battles it makes the game a little bit more realistic. Let's say there's an explosion of some sort it would break a light fixture and you'd be forced to use your flashlight. Also when the mods done can you share the updated vmf's?
HOLY FUCKING FUCK. DO THIS. Dude, if you added breakable lights in the game, holy shit. Also, you know those hanging lights? On ropes? Can you make them actual ropes? You don't need to make them actually change where the light is projected (it would be possible, like the lamp tool in gmod). This would make the game so much fucking objectively better.
For some reason that makes me think of FEAR. The combat could benifit from rooms filling up with smoke from firefights too though, that would be cool.
The HL2 Gman Scene's lighting could always be improved to be like Episode 1's (for consistency/visuals), too.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Ee5DR.png[/t] what's with the draugur texture
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Ee5DR.png[/t] what's with the draugur texture
I thought it gave the fast zombie a more rotted, corpse look, making it creepier than before. The vanilla looks like weird globby stuff all over some blocky white sticks, imho.
I kinda like the old color scheme, almost like the flesh was flayed off the body Don't mind the poor mockup.
all i know is, fast zombies scare me shitless. even if i'm dicking off in gmod and i spawn one in broad daylight it scares the titty off of me. [editline]16th November 2012[/editline] the zombies should be redone completely. they're incredibly low poly and ugly.
Yeah, I had always interpreted the fast zombie's lack of substantial flesh as the headcrab making the zombie rip it all off, for the sake of aerodynamics and lightness etc
I interpreted it as different mutations, as the headcrabs mutate their hosts, each type changes them differently. -Fast zombie, maybe decaying faster, due to its "pilot" using up the body faster by making it perform feats that a normal being could not do, thus increasing their metabolism, creating shorter life spans and wearing down the bodies faster. -The Poison zombies I saw as big and bloated from reactions to the poison of the poison headcrabs. -And as for the regular....I can only assume that it tried to make a mouth to "feed" as they do in HL1, but somehow failed, maybe due to re-enginering by the Combine. Resulting in the big gaping hole in their chest. [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] What do you guys think of making the H.E.V. suit look a bit more like NECA's Gordon Freeman's HEV suit? You don't think people have TRIED ? [editline]what[/editline] Whoever rated dumb is seriously retarded.
It wouldn't be hard to make the material change on bullet impact and have the light entity removed.
It wouldn't be hard to make the material change on bullet impact and have the light entity removed.
Yeah but you'd have to have the light be named, which means RAD doesn't calculate any bounces for it, so the lighting in that area would look like shit. It's possible, but impractical for a graphics improvement mod.
With the exception of Alyx and the monsters, I think these textures are a bit too clean in comparison to the older ones.
Talking about the lights reminds me of playing Descent 2 multiplayer. It was so awesome how you could shoot out so many lights and hide from other players. That would be a cool option to have, but IMO HL2 doesn't seem like it has enough of those types of lights for it to have any meaningful effect anyway.

I just stumbled upon this thread and you guys are doing a great job. <3 I'm really looking forward to this.
Going off of the Imgur gallery in the OP, I'm not entirely sure I like the new character faces - they lack a bit of definition. The eyebrows aren't as dark or low as they used to be for a lot of them, and the subtle changes to some of the characters' eye shapes look a bit odd. Not to mention the shading is a little too soft and there's not as much contrast. Take the G-Man for instance - his eyes aren't nearly as dark or hard around the edges in your version and that makes them lose their "piercing" aspect. His face isn't as square as it once was, which also detracts from that "caricature" quality of an alien trying to emulate a human. He looks too actually human now. Looking at the thumbnail, it doesn't even look like him; it looks like an actor playing him in some sort of HL2 movie and they didn't get the makeup quite right. [t]http://i.imgur.com/QH4P2h.jpg[/t] I'd recommend checking out the Extended Metrocop Pack on the Workshop. They've got some HD remasterings of existing models of their own in that pack and - while not without their own problems - they're pretty good. The HD Barney model is what I'd recommend taking a look at in particular, because it's a lot closer stylistically to the original Barney than yours is. I'd take a few cues from that if I were you. I'm not saying to just increase the texture resolution of the original and call it a day, but your models' features at the moment are too different to the originals'.

If they're off, it's not by much at all. -Yes is eyes are off, but it's almost impossible to replicate them. -I have seen DP's Metrocop pack. It's pretty good, but the skinning isn't too great, take his Barney for instance, it looks like some weird guy, who's trying to look like a girl by wearing eyeshadow, long lashes, lipstick, and several layers of makeup. I admit my Barney's outfit doesn't look too good, which is why I'm currently re-skinning it, but as for the face of my Barney, I'd say it looks 10xs better than DP's. Eh, I still say the eyebrows don't look right. The least I would do is put some more light-dark contrast in the textures. The faces just look too soft.
Eh, I still say the eyebrows don't look right. The least I would do is put some more light-dark contrast in the textures. I use normal maps, it's just a lot of my pictures are from HL2mdl viewer or faceposer, which don't display normal maps too well, or light.
Those little flesh-tone leathery bits on Gman's cheeks look really out of place IMO, looks like my grandma's underarms.

[editline]16th November 2012[/editline]

Sorry, but I still don't see "leathery bits". I see Acne scars, just not leathery stuff.

This will not only increase compile times exponentially. But it will make the map filesize huge.
Has the gman model already been made high Polly with the new skin? Also is there a way to make the engine use more than two gigabytes of RAM? And maybe make 64 bit run better? Also will this be Linux compatible? Also thanks for your hard work I'm definitely in heaven Linux support would be awesome in the future.
Has the gman model already been made high Polly with the new skin?
It's the original model with new textures by the looks of it.

There were problems with the 64 bit? I'm not sure if we can make it Linux compatible, maybe there will be an update to the 2007 SDK to allow that, if there isn't already.
i dunno what the correct term is but he needs to have that 'dent' under his nose, it would add some crucial depth to the face
Ah, knew there was something off around that part of his face! Also, what do you guys think about G-man's briefcase, should it be black with the Black Mesa logo on it, like in the original HL, or just be a plain grey with no logo like it is in HL2?
