that sounds okay but another option would be to add a fictional magazine fed grenade launcher
I'd suggest an XM-25:

It's basically just the grenade launcher off of the OICW prototype, which was originally what the Combine were going to use instead of AR2's.
If you're really that concerned about it, you could just have the player throw a grenade from his pocket or whatever and leave the SMG with no attachments.
[editline]11th December 2012[/editline]
On that note, perhaps instead of having grenades be a separate weapon you could just press a key and the player would lower his weapon, grab a grenade, and throw regardless of the weapon the player is holding. This would eliminate the grenade launcher altogether but since you aren't doing a 100% faithful mod it shouldn't matter much.
Of course, your little Combine tech thing is just as good.

Though doing that would require Gordon to lug around more grenades, or just use up the existing grenades faster, nether sounds good, plus it's not exactly that practical. Having the grenade launcher "built into" the gun was one of the good aspects of the MP7 in HL2, if you needed a something quick that could take out a group of Combine, without switching to another weapon, having to throw it, and wait for it to explode after several seconds after it would've hit the ground at which point said Combine could have walked away from it, or spread out behind cover across part of the map.

I think the grenade launcher weapon sounds awesome because using only the RPG to take down Striders gets REALLY repetitive in the Streetwar.
I think the weaponry is just fine.

Regarding the difficulty, I always wanted it to be kind of like Deus Ex: HR's. Think something like this:
Research Assistant (Gordon in a lab coat, Black Mesa logo in background)
Sole Survivor (Gordon in HEV IV, lambda logo)
Acquired Asset (Gordon in HEV V, lambda logo)
One Free Man (Gordon in battered HEV V, aged lambda logo)
Anticitizen One (Gordon in battered HEV V w/ grav gun, Combine logo)
Kind of unnecessary, but better than the boring difficulty setup with only boring gray text accompanying it.

On Difficulties i (since there is only three) i think it would be best to use... research assistant, free man, anticitizen one. (side note- anticitizen one sounds cooler than the one free man. But one free man sounds more difficult)
extra Weapons are unnecessary and will hurt game ballence. By this i mean the player will have too much ammo for too many decent weapons. However... It could be interesting to have characters use other human weapons ( such as an alternative shotgun) which on pick up provides ammo to the equivalent weapon which you use (rather than a new weapon)
One thing i'd like to see is attachments. No tacticool Stuff. But maybe the combine soldiers who don't use the energy ball function of the ar2 shouldn't have the energy ball launching part of the gun. Same with the smg.

Polish (you're gonna be fucked) (one guy fighting the entire German army with a twig)

No wonder Breen's stationed in Eastern Europe, the Resistance must be much worse everywhere else. And here the Polish are, they didn't stand a chance in the Seven Hour War.

I mostly disagree.
1- The names are good, but, so we are completely clear- there is, hopefully, going to be 4 difficulties.
2- I saw no problem in HL1 with having so many "decent weapons" as you call them, so what's wrong with adding 3 or-so new guns to HL2, so long as they make sense (by sense I mean they'd actually fit into HL2, and its story)? And adding alternate weapons for NPCs only just takes up unnecessary space, and serves no real purpose.
3- Attachments wouldn't fit at all in the HL games, even the variations you suggest. Plus I have never seen any "energy ball launching parts" on the AR2, if you're suggesting we add them...eeeh, that might not look too good.
I'm curious. You say you plan on adding HD models for most of the NPCs. Can I ask what's the status on those? Who's making them? How experienced is the person?

they're still looking for a character modeller, so obviously right now there hasn't been any progress on those. I think Joazzz might have been interested a while back though, and he's pretty experienced with this kind of thing.

We currently have four modelers, one (Tinter) is working on the new MP7 model, one (Voltlight) is working on the new Spas 12 model, one (Nomad) is working on/about to start on a new Headcrab model, inspired by the Gaming Heads statue, and the forth one (ZeRo Hour) is going to start on the Metro cops, and Gordon's new arms (we're re-making them to be more like the NECA figure's as we think that design is cooler).

Also, I'm looking for a good face model for Eli Vance. Anyone know of the best guy to use? I don't really want to use Morgan Freeman's as his face doesn't look too much like Eli's and has a lot of age-spots that Eli doesn't have.
I also found a good face model for a re-make of my Breen skin. Jay Ingram
Correspondent for Discovery Channel's Daily Planet and the Face of Science Channel
- from a short Bio I found of him.

What do you guys think?
I think he does a good "Breen smile"
For the main characters i think you just need to increase pollycount and better the textures. It would bother me to see alyx/barney/kliener/eli/magneson with even a slightly different face (but odessa cubage/father grigory would bother me less. Generic citizens/Rebels need lots of new faces.. maybe even new voice sets.)

I said skin, not model, the faces of the characters are going to look as close to the originals as possible.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again- the only reason I'm not using the original face models is because there are no good high quality pictures of them (except for Daniel Dociu- Father Grigori), and without high quality pictures, I can't make high quality skins!

How much similar are you going for? Because right now he won't be able to bend his arms very much.
Does Bill Cobbs look like Eli? Even for a bit? Minus the thinner face and square-shaped top of the head I think..

Granted he still can't bend them too high, but we can always slightly modify it in the model, so it looks like he can.

Eeh, a bit, like you said, his face isn't thin enough, but I think his head is also too round to be Eli. Also, his skin is a little too dark.
just some ideas
you should also make
- Female Metrocops.
- Zombies that you can tear apart. Using the l4d2 method hopefully (toned down)
- Rebel(medic) zombies, female zombies, Blue jacket zombies
- Dynamic lights from more sources. Including energy balls, Rockets, Combine pulse fire, Fire, Explosions, manhacks, rollermines, the gravity gun.
- Extra skins for standard headcrabs, vorts and barnacles. So they don't all look the same. (and the vort skin hopefully more hl2 than episode 2... the amphibian looking vorts are odd to look at)
I think the weapons don't realy need to be changed much. (also, half life 1 got away with so many weapons because quite a few of them used the same ammo) The 357, pistol, smg are gorgeous and id try and copy the design as closely as possible. Although i think the Ar2 Is ugly. The mounted machinegun found in the game would be better to emulate (although it lacks a ball launcher)
The most important models and textures are... Probably the details. Rubble is a huge thing to improve on. debri too. Grass could be fixed simply by changing the grass sprite to something decent and making the grass very dense.
Various decals for bloods, Mud, soot and water on the arms. Although without the uglyness of black mesa. There is a way to do it right.
male Citizen arms for when the player gets of the train. More arms if multiplayer is made.
The citizen male hands for Gordon aren't needed because you don't interact with anything before you get the HEV suit. But they could be used for MP.
Back to the HEV arms. I don't know what my opinion is worth but I think the design you are going for is a bit too blocky.
you pick up a can, climb things. Also you run. It'd be good to have hands do more than just hold weapons (whilst interacting with everything else through telekinesis)
