On the pupils however, I made them the same size as the L4D2 pupils, which I thought was much more realistic than the vanilla. I think it's more the fact that we're not used to seeing the characters with such realistic eyes.
I think that the HL1 Vorts look more alien because, well, they're aliens. In HL2, they've spent 20 years getting used to Earth and they're a little more tame and less animal. Plus, in HL! I don't think it was decided that they were hyperintelligent dimensional beings.
But yeah, a cross would still look cool.

I assumed the poll was purely for how they looked, not how they stand and animate and stuff like that. Ofc the HL1 vort looks more alien with those animations, but I just think the way he actually looks (regardless of pose) is way cooler.

I might do a poll on voices, as I can't decide between the HL2 version, or the HL2 Leak(beta) version. The EP2 version I don't like, mostly because it reminds me too much of another character the voice actor played (Korban from the game Star Trek: Elite Force 2).

It would cause lots of conflictions with the voices. Majority of them use all the same lines. and most of EP2s lines are new ones that wouldn't fit too well in HL2.
As for the HL2 Leak version of their voices, I found I can replicate that pretty well....strangely enough, so adding those wouldn't be a problem.

I find the current model a bit unsettling, and I think it's purely to do with the eyes. It's almost as though there's too much eyelid between his eyeball and eyebrow. I might be tempted to say his eyes are too small, but making them bigger could just make him look like Gollum.

Also, very indistinct eyelashes. He doesn't have them in HL2 either, I assume it would have been impossible to implement at the time, but he does have a dark band across the top of his eyes.
And a much darker blue.
But that has nothing to do with the skin. That's just because he probably raised his eyebrows or something.
A lot of these characters could seriously benefit from some added geometry on their facial hair.

His eyes are too light blue, you should dark them eyes up.
I think vorts are well... pretty good. I mean.. if i were to try and improve half life as much as possible with as little work as possible then i would do these first..
Textures:
debri (decals/overlays)
Large textures which do not have bump/spec. Starting with bump/specs that can be used with multiple textures
Random map prop clutter (cans of drink, plastic jugs etc)
If paralax is added- make parallax textures.
Anything else that stands out as bad. But only those.
Modeling:
Rubble.
Combine soldiers
Zombies/headcrabs
Citizens/rebels
Hands and weapons. However.. id keep them as close to their original designs as possible.
Antlion faces.
Other
- Add dense grass.
- Make more things light sources
- Add new voice sets for Humans.
- Add new physics noises (non replacing)
- Give each explosive entity a unique explosion.

This. If you still plan on improving the characters' meshes I suggest you actually make their hair actual 3D geometry instead of just textures, it would instantly make them look a whole lot better.

Yeah, I am actually using a $detail texture on Breen. Also, you can't get the same amount and quality of detail with a $detail overlay, compared to using a bigger texture. I just used one to give him a little bit of extra $detail for really close up pics (if, once it's released you want to use it for a movie or something in SFM, for example).

You could extend the sewer levels slightly, And if not add a sort of boss-fight, you could make the guy stand down at the end of a corridor and shuffle away the moment you look at him or reach a trigger. Like, Vague sightings in case you dont want to make an entirely new model.
Make it seem like he is stalking you.

Well eli had a cremator head in a jar in his lab, said he had no idea what it was. So cremators exist in the canon, Theyre simply not well known to the characters, im imagining the rebels/citizens have based an urban legend around him, like a boogeyman of sorts.
Alyx might have fought a cremator actually, since she was the one who brought it to eli.

Breen was never that wrinkly, I think I may even have made the area around his eyes too wrinkly. Also- [I]young[/I], really?
The transition from facial hair to skin seems really sharp.. pretty good though.
Nevermind, appeared that way because I was looking at the thumbnail.
I wouldn't mind seeing some whole new sections added to the game, or just small additional maps. The urban fights could've been drawn into some kind of large road, kind of like that the one beta scene with the strider blowing out the sign.

I honestly thought he was pretty cool, could slip him into the sewer section on the return to city 17. Maybe isolated heads could come out of grates.
