That's because he's hovering in the air I believe. Also please note that those are the BM mod's Houndeyes, but we are not going to use those for the final houndeyes, Ken is just using them for testing.
That is reassuring, since Hound-eyes shouldn't look so healthy and fat. They should look more starved and skinny, as they were to be portrayed in the beta.
I kinda preferred the fatter looking HL1 houndeyes, just because I like to call them Alien Hams So are you guys changing up the HEV arms at all, or just making a high-poly version of the HL2 arms? I think some elements of the MK IV could be cool to have, even if it's just the 3 little slit holes on the arms
I kinda preferred the fatter looking HL1 houndeyes, just because I like to call them Alien Hams
That wouldn't make sense though, Since no one is allowed to feed them, and are labelled as "rodents" by the combine.

That's why I'm designing my own version, as qouted above (originally from page #26). The arms are just gonna be high-poly versions of the HL2 ones, not really any changes I think.

Tbh I don't care which houndeye type gets used. They both are great designs and they both look like they could fit the canon.
Technically an alien of any shape would fit the canon, since aliens are you know aliens.
Or maybe include both since there will be some that will get enough food to be fat, and some will be starving, you know like real life
id love to see ammo accumulate on characters like in metro 2033 or gear changing depending on what weapon they start with. it'd be nice to see a pouch of shotgun shells on a combine soldier who has a shotgun. Or grenades attached to the characters who have them. maybe medics could carry large backpacks with medkits in. Also.. puffs of dust when you hit a combine soldier's armour. It'l still take the same amount of damage, but it'l look better. Their eyes glow should also fade when they die in the most spookey way possible. Occasionaly the lights jittering on and off after death for a few soldiers.
Imo combine soldiers should also have some kind of radio glitch sound effect when they die along with their death cries.
Or maybe include both since there will be some that will get enough food to be fat, and some will be starving, you know like real life
I hate to break it to you, but Hound-eyes are shoot on sight, no feeding, and report immediately, due to their "explosive" attitude.
I hate to break it to you, but Hound-eyes are shoot on sight, no feeding, and report immediately, due to their "explosive" attitude.
What if the Combine used them like my idea on page #21?
I hate to break it to you, but Hound-eyes are shoot on sight, no feeding, and report immediately, due to their "explosive" attitude.
Do Combines have zoos now? I'm guessing your joking, but there has to be some that are still wild that haven't been killed.
Do Combines have zoos now? I'm guessing your joking, but there has to be some that are still wild that haven't been killed.
Probably. If im gonna have an interdimensional empire id probably develop some kind of eco friendly will to document every species ever and develop and egotistical desire to collect them all!
Just a tip for the devs of this. I know there are a ton of features you'd love to add to it but don't get ahead of yourselves. I cant think of many mods that had such high goals and later delivered on them. The best way to focus on this development is to break it into parts you are sure you can deliver on. That way you don't get overwhelmed and you also get a good sense of progress. Like instead of the goal being "To enhance half life 2s visuals and gameplay." have it be "To update the npcs textures." Then once that is achieved, consider what else you could plausibly do and set that as the next goal. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's best to remember most big things always had small begginings.
But if you're going to have combine used Houndeyes they'd probably be edited to be synths.

YES
I always considered the Hunters (aka: Ministriders) to be the Combine's genetically re-engineered Houndeye.

I can't imagine what kind of creature this used to be.

some sort of worm?

I think the combine could probably just give things slave collars like they do with vorts. I miss gargs :(
Is the new Houndeye design going to have... hairy eyes? I have mixed feelings about that. It'd look cool on paper but genuinely creepy in game
Ok, so I had an idea of how to implement the Hound Eyes into HL2- There would be a few wild ones, that are pretty skinny and bony, like the original concept art for the cut HL2 Hound Eyes, then there would be more well-fed ones, that had Combine implants, similar to the ones put on the Vorts seen in such areas as the train station. The Combine would use the Hound Eyes to track you down, I'm thinking mostly adding these in Nova Prospect as "guard dogs" and in a few areas in the streets of City 17 (maybe having them on some sort of leash, and sitting next to a Metrocop, straining to get at the people that walk by), and the Street Wars (Where they run around and try and track you down and kill you). Then, somewhere in the street wars levels, introduce a new kind of Hound Eye, ones who's implants have malfunctioned and are sparking alot, they run at you, rebels, or Combine, and explode on impact, making them kamikaze Hound Eyes. What do you guys think? Also, if you guys have better ideas on how to implement Hound Eyes, or some of the other cut enemies, or enemies from HL1, such as Bull Squids, Crab Synths, ect. I'd love to hear them.
This is brilliant, we need more variety in the creatures, like the Headcrabs from HL2 Would the screaming of the Houndeyes alert nearby guards to your presence? And for Vortigaunts, could we have a variant which looks more like the Half Life 1 version but separate from the actual ingame HL2 version? Along with yellow Bullsquids And maybe a few Boids flying in the sky, you could even replace the crow model with a Boid model. They're those little purple bird thingies from Xen by the way
That would be pretty intimidating and indicative of the combine's power, seeing a Garg in shackles being controlled by them
I'd expect to see wild Bullsquids in areas that water is present, so canals and coasts maybe?

Plus I think with little hairs stuck between your eyes, it would drive you crazy from itching and irritation. The Houndeye screeching alerting the combine is a cool idea, I'm just not sure if that can be done very well with source. As for the Vortigaunts, I was going to do a mix between the HL2/EP2 vorts and the HL1 Vorts. Then have a few skin variations, and maybe, if we have the time, some bodygroups. Boids isn't that bad of an idea, though I don't know if they'd fit too well on Combine Earth.
I'd expect to see wild Bullsquids in areas that water is present, so canals and coasts maybe?
Canals, yes- Coast...mmmm, idk, maybe if I had them there, I'd have the yellow variation out on the beaches, sort of the 'sand Bullsquid'. Or I could just confine them to only be in sewer-y areas in the game, which I think might fit a lot better, considering there's zombies and what not in the sewers, I think more than that could survive down there. Maybe have some areas where Bullsquids are feasting on Zombies? [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] I would also like to welcome Joazzz to the team, as our particle effect creator!
We need a part dedicated to showing just how powerful and brutally efficient the Combine are, showing off the Big Momma Pod of the Gonarch, and with a shackled Gargantua as said before, or a Dead Antlion King Could revive the Cremator Factory idea, with young poor adults filling the role of the children A scene where you see a screaming human have his memories erased and turned into a Stalker would be terrifying and fit the horror/action/sci-fi feel of it HL2 was sort of lacking the suspensive horror that HL1 excelled in, they packed all the terror into Ravenholm, but even then it just turned zombies into casual annoyances instead of scary monsters Wasteland Scanners should reappear, the ones with the grenade launcher. But not that ugly orange skin, the green one was more industrial Shield Scanner could be made less basic, give it a small shield, claw attacks and a small light machine gun, like the SDK Snarks could be incorporated too, either as just a minor cameo, or even as a new weapon Those little buggers are so underappreciated Speaking of which, Sackticks were in the Half Life 2 design phase which were basically Snarks mixed with Headcrabs mixed with the Alien Swarm Parasite. They were fired from launchers like Headcrabs, in large numbers and swarmed like Snarks and attacked like the ASP And I sent you this over Steam, but others might want to see this [IMG_thumb]http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/6266/thelisty.png[/IMG_thumb] From the DP Films Metropolice pack
