The legs should be skinnier, definitely. The legs in that picture look too beefy, almost like a Pinky Demon from Doom 3.

As said earlier it looks to thick, though I'd prefer it not be skin and bones. I think it'd also help if we had a an idea of what color it would be.

On the topic of idle animations - guys, we don't need to have gordon wipe his gun or balance it on one finger, we could just have subtle animations, like having him stretch his fingers while holding the pistol - that would not look odd at all if it happens while moving. I hope you guys fix the Crossbow so it has the right "spool" for when you turn fast on a widescreen resolution btw.

Assuming animated sprays work in much the same matter, blood sliding down walls is well within the realm of possibility. Don't ask me to do it though, I aaaaint havin' any of that shit.
I had figured if we could get blood pools that animate outward, wouldn't it be a similar method just for a wall decal instead?

The pool effects in that were pretty good, I only played it twice, but I've yet to see them clip anything. It simply doesn't pool if it's on a ledge or uneven surface, or certain kinds of surfaces. Still, I'd imagine the issue of blood running down walls would be quite different compared to this, and I'm not sure how it'll work. If it's an animated texture, then how big will it be? What's to say it won't end up clipping down walls and appearing on floors below?
Well, they must have implemented something that detects whether or not the headcrab is on a flat surface. Perhaps the same method could be applied to walls?
SMOD pulled off all these blood effects pretty nicely if I remember correctly. Although I don't think it had this blood-sliding-down-walls effect your going for.
most effects from smod were cool tho especially the blood on the water
blood in water would look really kickass. creating the effect for it shouldn't be hard either we'd just to have code it so that it's triggered when a killed NPC's ragdoll falls into water, and that the root of the particles is always under water because otherwise it might look a little weird
You could theoretically make blood pooling/sliding using meshes. Not sure how it would look compared to an animated texture though.

Its still a decal, the expanding animation won't actually expand the size of the image, so not like its going to "spill" onto clips. Not sure how it would look compared to an animated texture though.[/QUOTE] Easiest way would be to use a program like 3ds or Maya and have a physics simulation with an inclined plane; a blood like substance, and then record it from above (against an invisible surface) and then import that into VTF.
