It can't be updated on Windows 7.
Not on mine anyway :( and I wanted to play.
Ive played it for 6 years. Mainly BF2 Sandbox. I co-owned The =NYS= Community, one of the most played sandbox server owners.
Played a game for 6 years that have been out 4 (soon to be 5)?
It came 2005 you know.
I got collecters editions
Well, after seeing this thread... I'm going to dig into my CDs and reinstall... :D
anyone got a link to all the patches? a WORKING link that isn't through their main site...?
Wow, that's nice to hear. I play a lot of mods for other games and Battlefield Files at FileFront seems to always be active because every now and then stop by the Network sites to see what's new. So Battlefield 2 is like a Squad based game? I already know its mainly focused on Multiplayer. I haven't had a lot of experience with Squad based shooters other than Star Wars Republic Commando which isn't all that Squad based.
Team based. So like US vs PLA. Although squads are available or you can create one of your own during online play. Squads help because instead of trying to work as one large team you have separate squads with different targets working at better efficiency.

Then: http://battlefield2.filefront.com/file/Battlefield_2_v150_Patch;103697
why the fuck ain't they working? i double click them and then... nothing.
The best BF2-related question, actually:
Does anyone even play the Sandbox mod by the Sir community? I know people do, but I've never seen a Facepunch BF2 user play it.

Works for me. Something's wrong on your side.
I used to.
I was one of the 'vehicle whores'
I have a lot more lately. My friend and I squad up and destroy.

Commanding one of the armies on Infantry servers (these are about as fun as vBF2 gets now, no vehicles to whore) is such a satisfying feeling. When you sit back and bring up the command menu you feel like some kind of badass with about 31 people at your will.
I played it until it stopped letting me login or install patches, then it broke and wouldn't let me play it when I reinstall.
I would if the fucking installer'd work. I bought the retail Deluxe Edition but whenever I try to install it, the installer locks up because I'm on a 64-bit OS. Fuck you, Battlefield!
Always worked fine for me with XP 64, Vista 64 and now 7 64. Maybe a problem with your installshield/whatever installer bf2 uses?

I still play, Special Forces is great fun and I love the grapple hooks and ziplines lol
I just got this game on steam, if anyone wants a game i'd love to have one

i've downloaded it, but when i click the shortcut... nothing happens...

Add me :)
finally got the patches to work... now to install project reality and see how that is.
I play it once or twice a week.
I bought it yesterday for £4. I need to learn how to play it vanilla though before I consider installing any mods. Having said that, the basic game seems to be a lot of fun.
So far I've only played skirmishes against the AI, because I fear going on to a server and ruining someone's game because I don't know what I'm doing.
I stopped playing when the community started going to shit, bunch of dolphin diving, teamkilling, hacking pussies.
Mods brought me back for a while but I still didn't like it anywhere near as much as BF1942, just something hilarious and fun as shooting down enemy planes with a well-aimed panzershreck.
... annnnd I dunno why but people always fucking teamkilling for planes, or get you kicked for teamkilling, even in PR. I was running for a jet, a teammate shoots me in the leg, I turn around and kill him, he punishes me. I think, what the hell, and toss a bandage so I don't bleed out and run for my newly claimed prize. The teamkill rate for a map-long auto-ban was 3 punished teamkills, so I felt safe.
I jump in and start the engines and go down the runway. The same teammate runs in front of me and gets crushed underneath the plane, punished, again. 1 teamkill left, so I hurriedly hit shift to speed up, out of no where a blackhawk lands in the middle of the runway, fully loaded with teammates, unavoidably I crash into it, one person punishes and wham, kicked and banned.
Remarkably, the last thing happened in Forgotten hope 2 mod as well. I grabbed a stuka and was returning to rearm, a Junkers transport fully loaded with like, 14 teammates banks in front of me and clips my wing, we both explode and I get autobanned for teamkills.
I play it regularly, bought it a month ago.
Might try that reality mod some day.
Good news, everyone!
BF2142 is apparently coming to steam after the 1.51 patch is released

Well you did one wrong thing there. You killed the teammate the first time instead of reporting him to an admin.
I can't remember, is it easy to report? I've never done it but now I think it is my civil duty cure cancer.

And lose my jet in the process? I think not. Eye for an eye, chum.

No, half the time there are no admins, and the other half of the time they rarely pay attention to what's going on unless the victim is a regular or a donater.
That's what I always kind of assumed. I always just ignore TKers or am just so damn cool I kill 'em and they never bother me.
for some reason, PR runs like shit when regular BF2 runs like a charm.
and when i press ESC on PR it kicks me from the server, saying "punkbuster's heart stopped" -- literally.
Dis they fix that stupid bullshit where Punkbuster needs updating manually before you play anything (steam version)?
Well the singular game that I played online kicked me after a few minutes because Failbuster couldn't connect or something.
It makes VAC look positively wonderful in comparison, and I'm glad that's what Valve uses for its games.
