I've got a problem. Whenever I try to mine gold, I can't. It won't let me. Rocks and stuff works fine, but when I mine gold, or anything above Iron, I get no ore. Why is this?

You need an iron pickaxe to mine gold/diamond.

Ah, Danke. That would explain why when I hacked Diamond ore onto the top of my tower, I couldn't mine it.

It might have changed and I never noticed, but AFAIK (and I use an abundance of both) diamond is [i]slightly[/i] faster.
Mostly noticeable on the strength of the sword on hardest and the shovel.

My World 2 file. I wanted to check out this new island generation and since my World 1 is so large I figured World 2 would be best as it wouldn't take me 5 real days to travel haha.
I have a small house near the south but since the new update will wreck current saves I won't bother with any massive castles this time around.
Is gravel used for anything? I have a crapload of gravel but I have no use with it and it's wasting space, so is there a way completely remove/delete useless blocks?

Gravel is a component needed to create flint and steel.
To use a furnace, place your fuel source in the bottom bar, and whatever you want to smelt in the top bar. Coal works best for fuel.
If you want to get rid of something, just equip what you don't want and throw it away somewhere. Default is Q I think.

Gravel is mined for the chance to get flint out of it which you can use with steel to make fires. If you want to trash blocks just toss them into lava and they'll melt. Lastly, to use a furnace, use coal on the bottom space and the material you wish to fire in the top.

Dig gravel with a shovel and you have a chance to get flint, which you can then combine with a steel bar to make a fire creating device. To rid of useless blocks press Q while holding a block and you can drop it without placing it. Drop it in lava to get rid of it even faster. To fire up a furnace put flammable things in the bottom slot and the things you want to smelt on the top slot and then wait.

Well, gold IS a sign of being near a chance of diamond, but really, I just use whatever's adundant in an area is currency. (IE: If you have a shitload of iron, your peasantry must pay for things in iron.)
